Fortunately I'm sure the owners realise that if the club they have invested in becomes relegation fodder next season, the value of their investment will plummet. It's not in their financial interest to sell our best players.
No, no Portly.

According to SOS Gerrard is being touted around Liverpool by Hicks personally.

Remarkable.

They are holding out because they want to sell the club for 800 Million, they could have had 150 Million profit a year or 2 ago.

Hasn't Hicks done exactly the same thing to some American 'franchise' in the last couple of years too?

The one he's trying to say he's bankrupt on now to get out the debts he owes?

Found it here:

Hicks arrived at Liverpool with co-owner George Gillett in 2007 with grand plans for a new stadium to allow the club to move from Anfield, but the stadium is yet to materialise and, this season, Rafael Benitez's team has failed to secure qualification for the Uefa Champions League, casting further doubts on the club's financial viability.

Things are even more difficult for Hicks on the other side of the Atlantic where, on Monday, the Texas Rangers filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection with the aim of hastening the US$575 million sale of the team to a group of investors that includes former pitcher Nolan Ryan.

The deal will see the Rangers pay the US$75 million of the franchise's debt tied up in Hicks Sports Group, allowing the team to be sold by protecting it from the creditors of HSG.

"I did not want to put the baseball future of the Texas Rangers in jeopardy or uncertainty for an extended period of time," Hicks told Bloomberg. "This action is all about creating an end to the impasse in allowing this team sale to go forward."

New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez heads the list of creditors. He is owed US$24.9 million in deferred compensation six years after leaving the Rangers. Bloomberg notes: 'The next five on the list are also current or former players: Kevin Millwood ($12.9 million), Michael Young ($3.9 million), Vicente Padilla ($1.7 million), Mickey Tettleton ($1.4 million) and Mark McLemore ($970,000).'

These rumours are bollocks. We wont get bought until the two twats lower their asking price. I wouldnt be surprised if the 'sale' of the club is just a ploy to buy some time to refinance. Again.
100 Million off the debt they need to wipe out will be gone, and so will our hopes ambitions and hopes for Liverpool...
I reckon they'll do both; re-finance AND sell players.

LATEST: We are apparently on the brink of something very major, I've just heard/read/seen.

Here's the piece:

A new stadium has already been built - in a secret Arab location of course - and will be flewn in to John Lennon Airport on the 12th of July divided into 'flyable' pieces.

The new Dubai-based owners will arrive along the new 90,000 seater stadium made out of gold and sand - dining in the VIP area of the new stadium - as will the new manager alongside 5 of the WCs best players, including the best ones.

Hodgson is arriving on the same date but only to watch how they manage to move the stadium from the airport to the new gound in Stanley Park and how the bricks will all click.

He's always been way into LEGO. Yes.

Don't know whether this is all bullshat but I thought I'd share as it's seemingly ON!

*yeah yeah....already wears my goat..... *

What would be the end game of this business plan? Reduce the value of an asset, and put yourself back in the same situation you were previous. How does that make sense?

Not strictly football-related, but given that our club is one of RBS's clients, this may be worth considering:

Analysts at Royal Bank of Scotland were urging clients to position themselves for a economic downturn. "We strongly believe that a cliff-edge may be around the corner, for the global banking system, particularly in Europe, and for the global economy, particularly in the US and Europe" said Andrew Roberts, head of European rates strategy at RBS.

But by appointing Hodgson.. it looks like they're hoping he can maintain top half status while selling the top players and replacing them with next to nothing.

If that's what they think, they're not likely to wait around much longer for H and G to pay them back.

When has it ever looked like they are working to a business plan? The asset has been steadily reducing since they took over yet it doesn't stop them asking for twice what they paid.

I think everyone is under-estimating Hodgson, which is probably a good thing. 8)
Possibly. Then again, some may be over-estimating what he can do. Only time will tell. It's happening whatever so we just have to hope for the best and at least give him an opportunity.

Broughton says there have been no offers yet, hopes to have initial bids in by mid-July and hopeful a deal can be done before the transfer window closes.

Did he say which transfer window? 🙁

I was being facetious SG in case you didn't realise, but in any case I wouldn't be so sure that we will sell that quickly.

I know, but I thought the same (as did the journalist who got him to clarify which one).

I agree it's optimistic, but at least they are aiming for that rather than a year etc.

The bit that I thought was most interesting was he said the owners can not block the sale of the club, and it will be sold for whatever it gets sold for, the best bid may not just be about money.

To be fair to Broughton, he committed himself early and publicly to a sale within months.

He is consistent with that one JJ, when he took over he mentioned a "few months".
There is more to all this than they are letting on, he did not deny the Abu Dhabi thing when it was raised either,

Martin Broughton is hopeful Liverpool will be under new ownership by the end of the summer.

The Chairman today insisted nothing was certain but that the first round of bidding was likely to take place in mid-July.

And he moved to assure fans that the club would be sold to the best - not the highest - bidder.

He told reporters: "There have not been any offers at this stage. There haven't been any offers to turn down and I wouldn't have expected there to have been at this stage.

"There are a number of interested parties but there's no specific deadline on it. We are looking to the middle of July-ish for the first round of bids but that's not a final stage - that's a first entry through.

"We're hopeful - and I wouldn't put it any stronger than that - that a deal can be done by the end of the transfer season. That was always from the outset a hope rather than necessarily an expectation, because these things can take time.

"We are on course, pretty well, with where we would have expected to be."

Broughton also explained his own role in the sale, adding: "The process is well under way and if I can remind you of what that process is - I've been brought in to oversee the sale process. The owners have stepped aside, stepped down. I'm overseeing the process and Barclays Capital are running the process.

"The process is a structured one. The information memorandum has gone out to a number of people who have expressed an interest. We're still in that process."

Quizzed on the role owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks were playing, Broughton said: "The owners can't block the sale of the club. I read all too frequently numbers being floated about in the media, normally associated with Tom Hicks's name. I would like to make it clear there is no number. There is no base line.

"This is a willing buyer, willing seller auction. We will do a deal with what we consider to be the best bidder. The best bidder may not be the highest bidder. It's about more than just money. It's about stadium development, the team and the whole piece.

"Once we've been through the process, the best bidder gets it."

He was fairly non-commitmental, but still, talk about it being done before the end of this summer is great.

I read that statement as seriously good news. The sale is in the hands of someone confident and able. Most importantly, the crap about Hicks demanding 800m for us is a non-starter. Broughton has made it pretty clear that we'll be sold to the best bidder at whatever level that entails.

I just wish we'd got this sorted at the start of the window and not hoping to do it by the end.

I have a question about all this, hopefully one of you boys can enlighten me.

He says they will open up the floor for bids but then he says the club will not necessarily be sold to the highest bidder and that we will pick the best person. Considering it is the Yanks we are talking about and some bankers, surely there is no fucking chance the club will go to the 'best person' if that person doesn't outbid everyone else? Serious question lads.
