Salah-ng, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, goodbye

Bayern could be an option if Lewa leaves next year and that will free up 350k for a 3 yr contract.

I think Mo needs his accountant to help here too. If he signs now his salary jumps and his income is guaranteed whatever happens (injury/form).

If he waits 6 months then he needs to recover the lost additional earnings against the uplifted contract and term.

If he runs his contract down then he REALLY needs a big pay differential to compensate.

Both the latter options assume fitness and form are not interrupted

There will probably also likely to be a big fat signing on fee which will likely compensate.

The fact is that 9 times from 10 the top strikers get the most lucrative contracts at a club. Scoring goals, as City discovered yesterday, is the trickiest part of the game, and if someone bangs in dozens every single year, then they should be the best paid player at the club, and in a structure all of their own. Players get that, or they should.

Not to disagree in principle, but how far down that road should a club go? The fact that this is now being stated openly suggests to me that FSG, after a period of trying to finesse the situation, are drawing a line in the sand and saying they've gone as far as they're prepared to go towards meeting the player's demands. It's up to Mo now. Which matters more to him, staying or getting every last penny? If the latter, he might want to think about what's happened to Wijnaldum over in Paris.

Salah is great, he's world class, etc, etc.

But playing at Liverpool, under Klopp, has helped him immeasurably.

As long as he leaves for a club outside the PL, good luck to him if he wants to chase money in his final few years. I won't begrudge him.

Nor do I share the same fears most on here do if he left, because I think his goals could be replaced/shared in the same way it was when Suarez/Torres left.

Controversial, but I think when talking about "generational talents" I have seen players on the same level as Mo play up top for us. We've had world class forward players in the past. Just none of them have been surrounded by the level of talent, Mo has. So of course, he's breaking all records. But swap Mo for Mbappe (under Klopp) and I think we keep the bandwagon rolling.

The one player we do have, who I've not seen anyone reach their levels (in a Pool shirt) is VVD. I panic a little at the thought of him getting old/leaving us, because I don't think there will be many defenders in the history of football with his atleticism, height, physicality, intelligence, technique and calmness. Capable of defending a Crouch type forward just as easily as an Mbappe type. Truly generational talent. No one in the world I am confident in saying is on the same level as him (as I would say with Mo and Mbappe/Lewa/Benz as goalscorers).

yeh I agree to a point, but wonder do they get it, at the end of the day it will increase expectations for sure, and that can mean possibly disappointments and unrest eventually, which can fuck up relations…I guess we trust in Klopp and co to offer what they feel is right /best for Mo the team and LFC going forward I mean Virgil is top class too, and there does have to be some limitations…even with a boss top striker I’m sure ..I don’t agree with pay him what he wants for sure…

If you look at base wages our players are reportedly on vs what the club actually pays out in wages, published in the accounts, there is a huge discrepancy. Right now if you include bonuses, Salah must be touching £400k at a guess

Just had a look at the strikers we had upfront against Real Madrid away in 2014 (after Suarez and Torres fcked off and Pre Mane):

Markovich
Borini
Lallana

Those 2 seasons were a bit shite for us for strikers wise as Studge was always injured.

God, that's terrible.

It makes sense. Not sure why it would be unpopular. Torres too.
Yeah I was about to say. Funny really - but I'm pretty sure that's a given. Suarez, Salah or Torres in their pomp? I know who I'd go for...

EDIT while I love our Egyptian King - As far as I'm concerned it's VVD that (to me anyway) changed everything.

There are some players because of their lack of effort, are shit! Borini gave 100% every game and you could see that, but he was still shit. He is in the same bracket as Salif Diao, Brian Diomede and Bruno Cheyru.

Brian Diomede?????

Maybe we should have signed him instead of Bernard!!!
