Egypt forward Mo Salah was named African Footballer of the Year for 2017 on Thursday, finishing ahead of his Liverpool team mate Sadio Mane of Senegal and Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Salah, 25, polled 625 points from a voting panel made up of national team coaches and captains, plus a selection of officials and journalists, to win the award.
Mane finished second on 507 with Aubameyang third on 311.
Salah helped Egypt reach the African Nations Cup final and qualify for this year's World Cup.
He also made an African record move to Liverpool and scored 23 goals in all competitions for the Premier League club in 2017.

"This is a dream come true for me. 2017 was an unbelievable year for me with the Egypt national team and my clubs. To qualify to the World Cup after 28 years and to have a great season at Roma and Liverpool were special moments in my career," Salah said at the Confederation of African Football awards.
Salah is the second Egyptian to win the award after Mahmoud Al Khatib in 1983.
Salah and Mane were due to fly straight back to Liverpool by charter jet after Thursday's ceremony, which finished at 2200 GMT. Liverpool play local rivals Everton in the FA Cup third round on Friday.

Congratulations to both - it's great that LFC is becoming THE place for the best African football talent and in a few months this guy will be joining, apparently he's pretty good:

I think we'll be dominating that podium for years to come.

With the amount of top quality African based players were signing, surely the commercial guys have cottoned onto the massive potential we have to exploit that market.

He's just got so many strengths. Dribbling, passing, shooting, pace, pressing. He's going to be phenomenal for us.

We should bring Aubenomanyag too. We would save the transfer fee only on spreading those Private Jets on four instead of Three (when Keita comes).

Apparently we have done a commercial deal with olay

First product we are advertising:

I'm not sure there's much money to be made in Africa that doesn't involve minerals and precious gems.

I would make a joke about some African players and their need to use this, but I won't as it could be seen as racist (and clearly will be on here) !

I don't see 'LFC' anywhere on the bottle - fire them.

Salah was lovely after getting the award. He said he was made up to receive it with his friend (Mane) beside him and that he was sure Mane would get the award soon himself.

What about the body language though - any smiles, high-fives? We need to know

Only in Afcon a player can "soon" become African Player of the year 2017 after someone else got it first.

That comment was made after Mane allegedly transferred money to Salahs and the organisers accounts via Western Union Money Transfer
