No, it's more fanciful to think Ayre - who is the one who does the important briefings - bothered. Pearce would have got any info he needed from elsewhere. He knows individuals around the club who'll tell him this and that, and the same is true with the players. There's not much there at all, and the tone he sets is one that most people would set. Is that via senior execs at the club? No. The relationship between the Echo and the club has always been close enough for the LFC hack to do these pieces without any detailed discussion. But if you want to carry on with this 'briefing' line, then carry on, I couldn't care less.
I understand totally the club wishing to distance themselves from any wrongdoing, and this seems as if the player himself is responsible, but I still don't understand how, if this was leaked on purpose - it helps Liverpool? Is it an attempt at damage limitation? If so, what's the worst kind of damage he could cause?
I don't understand either the posts suggesting this was an "FSG tactic" which they used for the Red Sox. Sakho cots us £18m. We now have an asset who may not play for us for a considerable period, after which his resale value will have been damaged. Where's the benefit?

Maybe the club realized that Sakho was not getting out of this for a long time and this is their first shot. Maybe their way of protecting the club's image by throwing Sakho under the bus. Not sure how effective it is and whether it is needed.
The reason I think all journalist where briefed is that the articles sounded very similar to the ones red sox put out when they wanted certain members of the organization - players and coaches out. In one case I think even details of personal troubles was leaked. FSG did get some heat for that but this is known to be their MO here in the states.

Not really, I mean, I've said all season he's not good enough, I said during the Dortmund game that he fucked up for a couple of goals. His shitness makes it slightly easier to take.
If he was someone really good who we want to pin our hopes on, then I might be a bit more gutted.
As it is, form wise he's the slightly less shitter option we had until the end of the season. It's just a short term blow, but if we take a hit on his sale because of it then I hope he takes a hit on any golden handshake he might have got.
That pic made me sad Modo ... Sakho comes off as a good person, helps the needy etc ... He's struggled on and off for most of his career here - be it b/c of injuries or form - but he doesn't come off as a twat or someone who's done something to get ahead ... As I assume he's guilty, I hope he returns to play the game he loves and rebuilds his reputation. Too many football players are absolute twats who don't do nearly as much good as they could with how their talents are paid. Let's hope one of the good ones can make it back - with us or someone else.

If, as French radio station RMC reported, he took "fat-burning pills," then this is an exercise in extreme stupidity, because anyone in football knows that some supplements contain substances that can lead to positive results.
Reading the ingredients on the label is not enough; that's why top-flight players won't take so much as an aspirin without first consulting their club's medical staff.
Sakho should have known better, simple as that. He's 26 years old and in his eighth season as a professional. And his own teammate Kolo Toure received a six-month ban in 2011 for taking weight-loss supplements while he was at Manchester City.
A "B" sample will be examined but if, as is expected, it emerges that Sakho's positive was for a "specified substance" -- one that is banned but which could have been accidentally ingested rather than one whose sole purpose is performance enhancement -- then he'll likely get a ban of six months to a year, rather than the two- or four-year suspensions handed out in more serious cases.
Still, even the lighter punishment will mean he misses out on the European Championship and possibly the Europa League final. And he will have a stain on his career that won't go away anytime soon.
