Sage/Payroll

I'm thinking of taking up a course in one or either. Im just wondering,,does anyone have experience of sage and/or payroll? if so would you recommend i do it or would it be a waste of time?
I see alot of employers looking for people with qualifications in one or both of these hence why i'm considering taking it up.
