Roy pissed off at Hull

Roy Hodgson was today critical of the way Hull City have handled the loan of Spanish defender Daniel Ayala.

The Reds wanted the 20-year-old to return a few weeks early from his spell on the east coast so that he could recover from a hamstring injury and then provide cover at centre-back in the absence of Jamie Carragher.

The Championship side refused - only for the player's injury to get worse.

Hodgson told Liverpoolfc.tv: "We're very disappointed in Hull City. I was disappointed to read that he's returned to his parent club through injury, when in fact he has returned because we're not prepared to loan him out to Hull anymore.

"We wanted to bring him back for the last three weeks of 2010 to get him fit, because he wasn't fit there, and to cover Jamie Carragher. Hull totally refused and said, 'No, under the loan agreement he's here until January 1 and we're not prepared to allow him to go back.'

"We then said, 'In that case you can forget about loaning him in January.' We'd done them a great favour loaning him to them for so long and we couldn't believe that when we were in need of him, they said 'No'.

"Then (after Hull said 'No') we wanted him here at least until such time that he got fit from his hamstring injury, which we thought would be the middle of December, but they refused that as well and insisted he went back there. And then with the treatment he has been given there his injury has now been aggravated.

"Our fitness people were under the impression when he was here that they'd have him fit for about the 15th or 16th of December - now he won't be fit until the end of January because his injury has been exacerbated by going back to Hull City."

Ayala is now recuperating at Melwood, though he could be loaned out again in January.

Hodgson added: "He'll certainly stay here until we get him fit, then we'll have a look at him and see if we think he's going to get enough games here.

"It will depend very much upon how our situation looks at centre-back. There is a possibility that if we didn't think we needed him we'd loan him out again - but certainly not to Hull City."

Ayala made 12 league appearances for Hull and scored one goal.

Anyway he says we wanted him to replace Carragher, which is total bollox because we have Kelly and Wilson here already and they are both CB's

1. As Squiggles mentioned, we have only ourselves to blame for not including any recall clause (as it seemed to be the case).

2. Hull were in difficulty (player + finance wise), prior to their recent talkover. The loan deal was already an emergency one so from their point of view and seeing that he was a regular prior to his injury, it was understandable why they'd rather cling on to the player, even though he's unfit

3. Might've been a 'stronger' case had we needed him into the lst XI or 18 men squad, but he'd probably barely make it to provisional squads, seeing that he would've probably returned as soon, if not later than Agger.

DERBY County will step up their bid this week to land a striker and defender on loan.

The Rams remain keen to bring in Martyn Waghorn from Leicester City to boost their attack and Liverpool's Spanish defender, Daniel Ayala, to bolster the defence.

"We need a bit of help up front and a centre-half, which we will try and get in this week," said manager Nigel Clough, whose team have lost eight of their last 10 matches in all competitions.

Ayala returned to training at Liverpool last week after a hamstring problem and he is expected to play for the Reds' reserves on Wednesday. (clash postponed though)

"We have spoken to Liverpool about Daniel and to the player and his agent. It is just a case of him getting this game under his belt on Wednesday," said Clough.

"Dean Leacock is now out for two games through suspension and so we need somebody to come in.

"Jake Buxton will be available at that point, we hope, and Ayala did well at Hull earlier this season and hopefully he will come in and do a job for us."

Ayala, who is 20, was on loan at Hull and scored against the Rams in a 2-0 victory at the KC Stadium in September.

He made a dozen appearances for the Tigers before his loan was cut short by injury.

Sorry for the irrelevance but thought its interesting how Hull is picking so many of Manure's youngsters - many of whom had barely had any 1st team or even loan experiences.

Corry Evans has made his loan move to Hull City permanent, signing a three-year deal at the KC Stadium for an undisclosed fee.

The 20-year-old younger brother of United defender Jonny has been on loan at the Tigers since January and made 18 appearances.

A Northern Ireland international, Evans had been included in a handful of United first-team squads during his time at Old Trafford but never made a senior appearance.

He joins Hull City just 24 hours after another Red, Joe Dudgeon, made the move. Former United players James Chester and Cameron Stewart are also at the KC Stadium, having signed permanent deals in January 2011.
