Roy Hodgson

What Deadly has got, in spades, is that he's a big occasion player (and goalscorer). Every quality squad needs its hod-carriers and Deadly's better than most.

We've plenty of good first team players. Hopefully they'll stay and we can recruit some decent backups.

Our best 11 is a match for most.

Our star players:
Reina
Johnson
Agger
Mascherano
Gerrard
Torres

could also argue AQUILANI (from his price tag and his form at the end of the season)

we have a good spine, just need a few additions to make it challenge for the title

if it is roy then lets hope he manages to do what no liverpool manager has done in 20 years, and that is buy a wide player worth a shit. some will point to macmoneymon but he wasn't bought.

Hey, we actually agree on something! Yes, that is one of his main transfer challenges - a challenge that Rafa (and, as you point out, Houllier) both failed at rather horribly. It would make a huge difference to us if we had a goal-scoring, chance-creating, fast, skilful wide player in the team. It doesn't have to be a Messi, just someone in the mould of Malouda, Valencia or Aaron Lennon would do.

That wee Sanchez character looks tasty. In fact I'd take several of those Chileans.

Indeed, that Mark Gonzalez looks explosive and looks like he'll score a few goals, fast as lightning as well apparently, hence his nickname speedy Gonzalez.

I was thinking other than Gonzalez. I've a weird feeling he isn't cut out for us.

Yeah, we should take a look at the guy they got on the left. Scored the winner against the Swiss that qualified them.

That game at Old Trafford was laughable, he couldn't get anything on a cross, no pace, power or height, it was like watching a 5 year old, and on the opposite side they had Ronaldo, Tsk.

Haha nothing will ever top Ryan's reaction when Steve Dunne out paced him in the Chille - Ireland game the month before he joined, it was all down hill from there for Speedy.

Ryan shouting abuse at Gonzalez from the Anny Road during a Spurs game would top that Mystic

Haha nice, was that the game we won 3-1? Only game i've ever been too, he was actually quite good that game from what I remember.

Was that the game he scored in?

Remember all the fuss benitez made when trying to sign him? He didn't have a work permit and benitez was moaning on about if he said he was good enough then he is good enough.

Complete vindication of home office practices there.

I seem to remember it was Gonzalez' first game when he scored. It was at the Anfield Road end and he dug the ball out from under his feet quite skilfully before shooting. It made us very optimistic at the time that we had signed a winner.

It was the same with Stan Collymore. :🙂

Says the Ryan Babel fan.

Lennon is not a major international player, but he's been very effective in the Premier League. That's all we need.

That's a slightly unfair comparison wouldn't you think? Although I kinda see what you mean. I'm certain I will remember Collymore's contribution to Liverpool in 20 years time, my recollection of Gonzales will alomost certainly be "we had a Chilean? At Anfield? Geddaway!".

I've probably told the story before, but that gonzalez goal was I think the day before we released a new shirt. The next day I went to jjb to get mine (in manchester 😉 ) and they'd ran out of Z's for all the gonzalez requests. Ah well.

It's a funny thing about memory - we always remember the great things former players did, and forget the crap things. I suppose that's a good thing. However I seem to be more unforgiving than most supporters because I remember the dross. For every good game Stan Collymore had, he had ten bad games in which he failed to deliver the goals we were expecting from him. So I perceive Stan as yet another bad signing, rather than an Anfield Legend!

Mostly agree, but would have to add that his scoring record initially was pretty impressive. It was later on that he went off the rails, and sadly he wasn't alone in that at LFC at the time.
