Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has conceded that the club's supporters will only truly be happy once new investment is found despite a flurry of activity this week.

Yesterday Joe Cole successfully passed his medical to finalise his £90,000-a-week move to Anfield which was followed by Steven Gerrard pledging his future to the club, ending weeks of speculation, and the announcement of Danny Wilson's imminent capture from Rangers.

Whilst the former Fulham manager admits that these announcements have lifted the mood of fans previously despondent at the Reds' fortunes going into the new campaign, he believes that the club's unpopular owners still casts a shadow over Anfield.

He said: “What will lift the supporters is if we get new investment. I know supporters are very anxious for that. We can’t ever deny it.

“All the time we are in our current situation in terms of investment, the supporters are going to be sceptical. You can talk until you are blue in the face but it won’t make any difference.

“The owners are not popular with the fans; the fans want new owners, they want new investment. The gloom, if there is any, is never really going to lift until that day comes.

“I’m not going to dupe supporters and say that everything is rosy just because we have signed Joe Cole.â€

Since George Gillett and Tom Hicks' takeover in 2007 Liverpool have been plunged into over £350million worth of debt and despite the Americans willing to sell, no offers have been forthcoming.

Posted this in another thread but its more appropriate in here, just been told there maybe a statement at end of week regarding investment.

Cheers for the info Redshrek.

Just hope it's not some statement saying we have no investment yet.
