Rodgers: We could win the title

Possibly, but sometimes teams in that situation breathe a sigh of relief and play their best football of the season. You never can tell until the day itself.

let's hope palace and norwich are safe come end of the season and nothing to play for. could be the difference?

Equally, Chelsea's last 2 games might well be against sides who've already been relegated. Btw I think there's almost no chance of Norwich being safe when we play them.

Will West Ham be safe I wonder?

Probably not safe, but I'd guess under a lot less pressure.

Tbh looking at that I don't fancy our fixtures much. It's basically a combination of home games against the best teams and aways against relegation strugglers. I counted 3 you might expect fairly easy rides from, Swansea, Sunderland, and Newcastle.

The other 9 all look like real battles.

Playing a relegation candidate doesn't necessarily mean we'll have a tough game; in fact, the later in the season we get, the more they'll need to go for 3 points instead of 1, which plays into our hands I think. In seasons past, this might have been a problem for us, but since the second half of last season, our counter attacks have been deadly. Give us a gap at the back when you come forward and we'll show you a goal.

Yeah. Away to Palace and West Ham are potentially horrible fixtures. We have every chance against anybody at home though.

And I suppose it's worth saying that there are at least 10 relegation candidates in the league, so pretty much everyone has the same problem there in terms of competitive fixtures. And while a lot of our games are potentially tricky, every single one is also winnable. There isn't a single one I'd *expect* us to lose, like say Chelsea or City away.

This is great. I think this is only the 4th season out of more than 20 I've followed where we're actually in a proper title fight.

If you take away the three away games against the teams above us in the league then our form on the road isn't too shabby.
Won five, drawn four and lost one.
If we can keep our home form up I reckon we should minimum hit mid seventies, points wise and possibly even early eighties.
Not good enough to win a title but we could make third or even second.

I like the cut of your jib Studsup.

We've averaged 2 points per game so far this season. If we maintain that we'll end up with 77 points. That looks about right to me. The interesting thing is what is going to happen to the teams around us. I really want Spurs to fuck off to fuck.

Yea it would be nice to be still in with a shot of the title with five games to go without having to look over our shoulder regarding qualifying for the Champions league.
I actually haven't discounted Spurs overhauling Arsenal, but not us of course, before the season's end

I think low 80s might win the title this season. Not definitely, but there's a chance. I think 85 would definitely win it. If we beat City and Chelsea at home then I reckon we could afford to draw 3 of the other 10 games and still just about sneak the title on 83 points.

I'd still be surprised to be honest if this run lasts, we've looked far too brittle at times to be taking away games against minnows and home games against the rest, as a given for points. We're laughably inconsistent at the back so we can easily implode in any of the forthcoming games.

The improvement and progress has been immense though, there's no way any of us should lose sight of that, but the top four is now ours for the taking, if we fail to get there, then it only magnifies ours/Rodgers' Achilles heel, and where we need to improve in the Summer.

Of course, with that front three, Coutinho and Gerrard, we will always stand a chance of twatting anyone, though.

I suppose the good news in that regard is that over the next 2 weeks we should have our full accompaniment of defenders back. A fit Enrique, Johnson, Agger and Sakho is a back 4 that probably only Skrtel can break into. Let's hope that competition brings more consistency at the back. Certainly BR has identified individual errors as being a real problem, so let's hope we can tighten that up.

This keeps nagging at me... we *could* win the title, but I don't think we will. However, I'm concerned with our tendency to big up our chances just to lose the next game. We need to keep our head down and remember where we are. We have a good base of first choice players, but our squad is not at the same level as our competitors, obviously. As well as this, a lot of players are inexperienced when fighting at this end of the table. It's important to remember the progress we've made over the last couple of years. We need to concentrate on getting 4th and not distracted with talk of the title. Once 4th looks more likely, then we can dream a little higher - not when a now-consistent-Spurs annoyingly breathe down our neck. We may have blown teams away at times, but we still have that naivety and inconsistency that a young, inexperienced team at this level has.

Also - our run ins. While we say that we've played all the big hitters away - and that's warped our away form - our excellent home form could see some evening out as Chelsea, City, Spurs come to Anfield. While we have a good chance of winning these games, I'd say they wouldn't give up on getting 3 points either. And those niggling doubts of not turning up for away games at lower quality opposition still remain. I think we have a tougher run in than Spurs. I think if we beat them at Anfield and keep a 6 point difference between us and them thereafter, then we can start talking about overtaking those above us.

^^^^ Nice post, pretty much the same angle ive looked at it all season, i'ld snap 4th up right now if it was offered, we just cannot afford to fuck this opportunity up.
