Yeah, and I'm sure everyone would agree. But finishing fourth may not lead to anything. We've finished in the top four a lot in the past 20 years.

Fair point Gerry but I don't see winning the league cup as leading onto a lot either.

We did have chances to push on. A couple of times. But for various reasons (bad choices from various people) it didn't happen. That might happen again of course but only time will tell.

I would be part of the "we cant attract top players" brigade, but I believe its cos we're not in the CL. League cup or FAC will not attract players. Playing in the CL will.

I thought this was a big wind up.
Of course 4th place is more important.
Top drawer players don't want to come and play for you if you win the League Cup for fucks sake.

regards

If we dont Finnish top 4 this is season and it will even harder in the coming seasons as spurs (looking strong) will no doubt strengthen again

I'm not surprised 'Top 4' won but, personally, it's part of the problem I have with modern footy.

I'd like to see us win another trophy before I go toes up and I don't think we'll be in for the League any time soon. It would be nice to have something to celebrate rather than something that allows us to enter play offs for another cup, despite it being a big one.

Yeah but winning one of those trophies and not getting us in the Top 4 means the Europa league, Thursday and Sunday kick offs, long trips to pointless places and best of all another reason for us to fail to get back in the CL.

Its not what I like, but its where the game has gone. We can either be pragmatic and accept it or move with the times and retain the true deifinition of the Liverpool Way in the areas that matter most.

Obviously a top 4 finish is more important. It get's us back into the CL and perhaps helps us attract a higher caliber of player. Yeah a cup win would be lovely but not over a top four finish in my book. We are trying to get back on track here, a top four finish kick starts that for us.

Neil, since you started the thread, i'll ask you two questions.

1. Would you rather a top four finish this season or to win the Carling Cup?
2. Would you rather a top four finish this season or to win the Fa Cup?

Just write a concise clear answer please.

Hmmmmm.....

If anyone would rather win the Carling cup over a top four finish this season then they need their head examined. Same goes for the Fa Cup.

In an ideal world they wouldn't be mutually exclusive.

in my opinion of course.

I think everyone acknowledges the fact that finishing in the top four is always more important. I just wouldn't get much, if any, joy out of it. So I'd prefer to win a trophy which I would get joy out of, if only for one night. Call me short sighted or crazy if you wish. I'd call myself a fan of winning stuff though.

But, as I've said before, I agree with your last point, they shouldn't be mutually exclusive.

Dave wants the moon on a stick as well.

Well Neil you have had a good kicking over this one and now you know why 80% on the LFC site voted for Top 4. Top 4 every time, I want to see us playing Real, Barca, Juve and AC not Aldershot, Walsall and Buckingham Ladies.

ho-hum, each to their own. I remember running down my street celebrating the league cup win in 2001 after a no trophies for 6 years, well it's 5 years since our last trophy.

So do you want that to be the only trophy we win every 5 years?

i remember feeling slightly embarrassed that our players were running around like they'd achieved something, but whatever works for you, i guess.

I always want us to win silverware. But unfortunately we're not in the position we once were, and we need to build from the ground up

Zackly. It's a question of priorities. A cup is always nice, but putting it top of the list is very, very short-sighted.

Re: Re: results for a poll on LFC.TV - amazing

It's a question of would you rather paper over the cracks, or get some polyfiller in there

I was doing the same thing earlier, Neil.

The reason why? Marvel just killed off Spiderman.
