Daniel Pacheco scored a superb goal in front of Kenny Dalglish as Liverpool Reserves beat Sunderland 2-1 at the Academy on Tuesday afternoon.

Nikola Saric bagged the other goal on a day when the young Reds played some lovely football as Dalglish, Steve Clarke and Sammy Lee watched from the sidelines.

Liverpool's caretaker boss will also have been delighted to see Jay Spearing come through 90 minutes on his return from a fracture just above his ankle.

The only negative for manager John McMahon was the late dismissal of goalkeeper Martin Hansen for a foul which led to Sunderland getting a consolation strike from the penalty spot.

The result keeps the second string top of their section of the Barclays Premier Reserve League North.

The opening 20 minutes were brought to life by 17-year-old Suso, who showed off his blend of wizardry and composure alongside the returning Spearing in central midfield.

The Spaniard produced a great delivery on 21 minutes which Emmanuel Mendy might have used better.

Tom Ince, back from a loan spell under his dad at Notts County, threatened on 27 minutes with a dainty turn and shot from the edge of the box which slid just wide.

Minutes later Pacheco gained possession before taking his markers one way and then the other. His eventual shot from 20 yards forced a fingertip save from Trevor Carson in the Sunderland goal.

Ince was next up with a well-struck hit which stung the goalkeeper's palms.

Watch Pacheco's goal now>>

Sunderland had to wait 40 minutes for a serious effort on goal when midfielder Adam Reed let fly from distance before watching the ball whizz wide.

Liverpool countered with a cross-field ball from Jack Robinson which was taken well by Ince on the right. The No.7 cut inside and sent a curled effort into Carson's reach.

The breakthrough finally came on 43 minutes after a dinked ball into the box from Saric. Pacheco worked himself into a yard of space to shoot back across goal on his weaker left foot, managing to find the top corner.

The lead was doubled on 50 minutes when Spearing lofted a pass to Pacheco, who cut back to Saric. The former Bosnian refugee - who has missed large chunks of 2010-11 with a broken leg - bent his shot towards the roof of the net before wheeling away in celebration.

Pacheco could have made it 3-0 on 62 minutes following a decent ball from Ince, the Spanish U19 international leading defender Liam Bagnall astray with a superlative touch before shooting against the outside of the post.

Sunderland were gifted a lifeline when Craig Lynch ghosted into the box before falling under the slightest contact from the otherwise excellent John Flanagan. Justice was done, however, when Danish stopper Hansen saved Matthew Fletcher's penalty.

Down at the other end Ince crafted space for a cross before substitute David Amoo headed against the woodwork.

Flanagan was unlucky not to get his name on the scoresheet with a close-range poke after a mistake from the defender.

The one sour note for Liverpool came on 87 minutes after a mistake from substitute Victor Palsson, prompting Hansen to foul Fletcher in the box. The referee flashed a straight red card and Nathan Wilson sent newly introduced goalie Jamie Stephens the wrong way.

Liverpoolfc.tv man of the match: Dani Pacheco edges out Tom Ince, Flanagan and Suso.

Liverpool Reserves: Hansen, Flanagan, Robinson (Palsson 73), Spearing (c), Darby, Mendy, Ince, Suso (Amoo 73), Saric, Pacheco, Bruna (Stephens 87). Subs not used: Roberts, Banton.

He won't be here next season. We were happy to reloan him to Notts on the condition he signed a new deal (his current one expires at the end of the season) yet he asked for silly money..

Its odd, county fans loved him.

So,you'd think thatd stand him in good stead for pushing into the squad.

I think kenny will be giving pacheco game time if anybody

Happy to see Pacheco with another splendid performance for the Reserves as well as seeing Saric finding the net. Perhaps he can get a run going and then who knows - fight his way into the first team squad as well.

Pacheco Suso Kelly Shelvey Sterling Silva - i want all of these to get a run out...think all of them deserve it as they have obvious ability.

I don't think you read the post properly.

Eh I did, just re-read my post though - hate posting on my blackberry.

I meant he was ace at county and got plenty of fans, so you'd think he'd push on here and get a new contract

I thought he was offered one but preferred to run his contract down the last 6 months and be a free agent.

Patches is good, but Suso looks better believe it or not, we might be blessed with the youngsters there are 4-5 or maybe 6 that can come through for the first team soon.

Nathan Ecclestone saying he is packing his bags for a loan move to a London Club, but can't say which until the club annouce it officially tomorrow

Pacheco is always great for the reserves. Hopefully Kenny can help him transition better to the first team.

Suso in the centre I see, like I said 😉

I think it will be one the smaller London clubs. Can't see him getting a game for QPR. Charlton or somewhere like that.

That's the second time tonight someone's quoted me with what I assume is a picture, hence I can't see what's happening from my phone 🙁

The Lucas thread is such a tease also.

I've got a feeling that Kenny rates Nikola Saric.

Firstly the club squandered his move to Vitesse in the 11th hour and told him to stay put and now one of his competitors for a place in the starting line-up at reserve-level is gone. Eccleston got a fair deal of first-team playing-time under Roy as well mind, which obviously indicates the lack of squad depths why a few more of the youngsters could be set for a few first team bows.

I still rate Saric and I thought he took his goal very well yesterday. His assist to Pacheco was pretty good too. He's build a bit like Torres actually but is a bit more suited for the role alongside another striker or in the no. 10 role I'd reckon. He's not got the same blistering pace as Torres but hiss first touch and overall skills are upthere.

A Torres & Saric partnership in the future perhaps?

The highlights are on Sky 434 again now.

Suso's quality is effortless.
Spearing always looks good at this level (with his range of passing)
Ince looking full of spark and intent
Bruna has stood out so far as well on the left.
Saric putting a real physical shift in.
Pacheco a cut above at this level as usual.

Mendy's a liability at centre back.

Liverpool striker set for Addicks loan

Wednesday, 12 January 2011

By Richard Cawley

LIVERPOOL striker Nathan Eccleston is set to sign on loan for Charlton today.

The 20-year-old, a former England U17 international, used his twitter site to announce he was set for a switch to the capital and it is understood that the Addicks are the club that he is joining.

"Just packing my stuff....London bound," tweeted Eccleston yesterday.

The forward was signed by Liverpool at the age of 15 from Bury. He played twice for the Reds in 2009 and had a loan spell with Huddersfield last season, scoring once in 12 appearances.

Not surprising really, haven't we come to an agreement with Charlton over players? We get first option on their prospects and we will send players the other way on loan?

Is Saric by any chance Danish?

Yes he is, and I'm sorry to say he hasn't done anything since he arrived. Maybe the potential is there, but he's hiding it well.

He's Bosnian too if that's any consolation.

Anyways he played a good game yesterday and took his goal very well, but most of his spell at Liverpool has been mared by injuries.

He'll be good though, whether he'll be good enough to Liverpool is yet to be seen but can he build on his game last night and perhaps enjoy a bit more luck (as well as good faith from Kenny) then who knows. I rate him much more than say Eccleston who's already had his fair share of games at the highest level.
