And that's why nobody talks bout anybody else having a great season last year. Meireles was inconsistent in the first half of the season and then hit a burst of form at the beginning of the new year.

I'm not all that bothered what we do with him tbh, I wouldn't be upset if we sold him for a decent price and I'd be happy to see him in the team. I don't see this deal making or breaking our season like some others might.
totally agree with this.

When meireles was out of the squad we looked Shit. His movement and willingness to receive the ball helped link our def and att. Without him playing we chose route one hoofball.

Definitely don't want to 'muddle through without him' as someone suggested. And I'd certainly prefer we keep quality players. There is no doubt Ming was an influence when we played well.

This could well be a negotiating tactic though - settle for what we are prepared to offer or you will be off-loaded pronto.

IMO we should give him a small rise (since that, it seems, is what he was promised) in line with what is considered reasonable for a player of his ability / standing. It's worth it to keep him.

Am I the only one who thinks Aquilani could do what Meireles did last year ?
Maybe but Aquilani has already said that he would rather be elsewhere, it hardly fills me with confidence.

Ming served his purpose last season. Came into to the side, always showing for the ball and making runs off the player in possession. At times, he looked decent and gave his all in every game. Some for his attempted tackles were embarrassing, one in particular against Braga springs toons when he turned his arse on the ball and it went through his legs, with Braga nearly scoring. His run of form came at just the right time, so people forgot about his early quieter games(he was settling in to be fair) and was fresh enough in our minds come May to remind of his abilities.

When I make out my team for next season, he's nowhere near it. And with the players in and on the way, I reckon Kenny won't be too bothered about losing him. Time to cash in me thinks.

Yep, that & we can't get shut off aqua & we can Ming.

Those two things combined make it clear why he's likely to be off.

Selling Ming would be madness. I like Aquilaini too, but Ming wants to be there, Aqualilani clearly does not.
Ming had a fairly erratic first half to the season, but better than most, and when played in a correct position really was the business and we missed him when he was not there.
Exactly. People may complain about lack of loyalty in the game and to some extent you can't blame players if they can come off a good season, want to stay, and still be shipped. A big if of course.

I was dead happy then, riddled with MDMA, texting my man to bring more... and then this. I'm in fucking Lisbon. Off my head in Lisbon. If we sell this cunt then I'm raping all your nans. All of them.

It's madness to sell raul and keep aquilani

raul aquilani
games (last 3 seasons) 123 80
goals (last 3 seasons) 14 6
attitude stay desperate to leave for italy?
age 28 27

Yea maybe aquilani can come back and do the same job as raul, just as well. But how long before he gets injured?

I hope it's Kennys choice and not purely financial if this does happn.

I must say the attitude column made me chuckle. 🙂

As i said before, we're obviously looking to sell Aquilani but CAN'T. Whereas with Meireles, maybe there's been interest. Why are people not realising this???

Obviously people know that one could be sold easily and we would struggle with the other but the fact is we're considering weakening our squad for money.

If we have two players and sell the better one because he's worth more then that makes us a selling club and I thought the new owners meant an end to that unless silly 50-60m pound bids come in.

Amazingly Gary, other people also have the wisdom to see your point; they just question whether Aquilani can successfully do the role which Meireles has been doing for us, and therefore whether the sale of Meireles can be justified for the sake of raising a bit of funds.

Amazingly Squiggles, even more people are coming up with the line "we shouldn't be selling Meireles before Aquilani" which to me looks as if they're saying we're not looking to sell Meireles because we have Aquilani which isn't the case in my view. If Juve or someone had paid us £12 million(for instance) for Aqua, i'm not sure Meireles' future at LFC would be in doubt.

I'd rather Meireles myself, he does blow hot and cold but i think he showed more than enough in his debut season in England to justify keeping on. At the same time, it seems he's more saleable than Aquilani which is the point i'm trying to make. Thank you.

Meh. He shits out of tackles, has a sloppy 10 mins in every game where he gives possession away stupidly time and time again and his fitness is questionable with all his early subs.

I think most see the point, Miereles is more saleable , and probably for a good reason, but the point is keeping Aquilani over Ming is a risk. We know Ming is a decent player and even showed that in his first season, when a number of foreign imports take a season to settle. Aquilani while I would like to see him given a chance and believe there is a decent player in there, still has an awful lot to prove, and I just don't think this season is one to take chances, particularly when there is a fucking big question mark over Gerrards groin.
The truth is if I was going to sell anyone it would be bloody Lucas.....there I've said it

regards

Ming is a smart player with a lot of skillz but I think people are over-rating him a bit, I was a bit mystified when he was our player of the season.

Anyway, people better get used to this - when we have a player his age with his value about to start dropping we're almost always going to sell from now on unless it's a local lad.

The club WILL try to sell Suarez in a few years, for example, while they can still get a good 20m for him.

Anyway, I don't get the Aqua thing. I think with Aqua we're just playing hard ball with the player, his agent, and the interested clubs. With Ming, the deal is close so he's left behind. Aqua won't be playing for us nexy season I reckon.

Sorry George and Whitey, I don't buy the stamina thing, he covers a lot of ground when he is on the pich, nor does he shit out of tackles that much, he might of up until the turn of the year, in the final quarter of the season he looked quite aggressive on occasions.

I reckon he's in THE Lisbon high as a kite and getting bummed to within an inch of his life.

hahahahaha

I wanted a midfield revamp this summer. We were out fought and over run far too often last season. Adam and Henderson weren't the players i had in mind but they'll give us great delivery and an engine in there. I now want Aquilani sold, Poulsen sold and if need be Meireles sold and a proper enforcer signed.

One, possibly two of those things will happen, but if you think we will buy a 'midfield enforcer' you're very much mistaken.
