According to a very reliable poster on RAWK, Raul isn't going on the Club's Tour of Asia as we're looking to get rid. He wants to stay though.

(Sorry if there's another thread on Meireles, had a look but couldn't find one)

YOU never get a second chance to make a first impression.

Which is why Raul Meireles is the midfielder most vulnerable as Liverpool stockpile central midfielders this summer.

Even though Kenny Dalglish had been a keen student of almost every Liverpool match during his time in managerial exile, it wasn’t until he stepped off a boat in January that he had an active interest in what was happening on the field.

And on day one at Old Trafford he saw his skipper sent off for reacting to Meireles coming off second best in a tackle.

To be fair to the Portuguese, that tackle by Rafael was a poor one.

But it was far from the only time last season that Gerrard et al had to pick up the cudgel on the midfielder’s behalf.

Not so much a Portuguese Man of War, as a Latin lover.

Technically Meireles was excellent. But aggressively he was lacking.

Last season he won 38 tackles and lost 20. And in the English Premier League that’s not good enough.

Charlie Adam isn’t renowned for his tackling. But he still won 162 tackles last term.

Meireles is also 28-years-old – and demanding improved terms on his contract.

Sweet though his strikes were at Wolves, Stamford Bridge and in the Anfield derby, he looks the most likely to make way in the great Anfield shake up this summer.

To be fair to the author of this, Ming really is a pussy.

As much as I like Meireles, and I really hate to say this...I think considering his age and value, selling him might be good business.
With Gerrard coming back, Aquilani, Adam and Lucas, I really don't think we'll miss him that much tbf.

I'm not in favour of it to be honest. I know we're well covered in midfield now, but i didn't see this coming.

Shows Kenny's ruthless streak which is a good thing. Still think it's harsh on Raul though.

Selling our one of our better players is never a good idea.

I think the point is that Kenny doesn't think he is.

One thing we lack is players with fight, but not as much as players with actual ability in attack.

Meireles isn't an Aquilani, he's not some total liability, he's like a lot of attacking midfielders who'd rather have the ball than not. I wouldn't cry over him leaving, if I thought there were better players we'd bring in, or we have brought in, but I just don't think that's the case.

Don't like this.

I don't think we're gonna miss Meireles if we get Mata.
What I liked about Meireles is that he seemed to cover the entire pitch. Worked his socks off and was often subbed because of fatigue.
Hard work and running got him most of the goals. But I'm not so sure about his passing, creativity and defending.

Ming might be a shithouse, but if he'd had a bit of steel alongside him last season, this wouldn't really have been an issue.

What a fucking shit article. He's not there to win tackles, he's there to create and score goals. What? No stats?

Last season he won 38 tackles and lost 20. And in the English Premier League that’s not good enough.

Fuck off you useless twat of a journo, I don't give a fuck if it's for the Echo, that's a 'shithouse' article. And if the Echo is still the mouthpiece of the club, then that's really lame.

No more so than many an attacking player we've had, so there's no 'to be fair' to be had.

i rate meireles highly, think his movement off the ball is very positive and was very important in our forward play last season. find it a bit odd if true but i'll get over it

Shit news.
Selling Meireles for Adam is one step forward two steps back.

Raul was brilliant for us for much of last season.

This sucks.

He was definitely our best midfielder last season.... selling him would be a terrible mistake IMO.... luckily enough i dont think it will happen either!

The thing is, we suddenly have 3 "new" midfielders in the team. Gerrard, Aquaman and Adam.

you see i am still confused by this , all my portugese friends still say he was a defensive mid , or at least a deep lying mid , before we signed him .

It's no accident most football fans thought he was one of the best players last season.

He's not some Momo Sissoko there to break up attacks and make crunching tackles drawing ahhs from the crowd. WHen he's on the pitch, he makes room for others with his runs and there's more space because defenders are running all over the place figuring out where he's going.

I guarantee that we'll feel his absence in a few weeks.

And the other "third" new midfielder: Henderson.

It is fair because he is a pussy who pulls out of tackles.

Bollocks.

It's one step forward, and one leap back.

Kennolli's "Xabi-for-Aquilani" moment if it happens.

Good player, I'd prefer if he stayed, won't lose any sleep if we sell him though.

I'll say this though; if we sell him and keep that gimp Aquilani I'll be fure.

I was thinking the same. It makes no sense to keep Aquilani here and send Meireles out.

Meireles covered a lot of ground on and off the ball for us. His touch at times were sublime, if I had the time I'd compile some of the moves he pulled off with his first touch. He plays the one touch passing game really well and he really moves the ball very well. His shooting fron distance is reasonably handy. If we get a good offer I won't break sweat as we can strengthen other areas...but right now, I'm not really sure why we are doing this

When Raul played last year our runs in behind the opposition were constant and dangerous.

When he didn't they were non existant.

I really hope he stays. His passing movement and goals are very undervalued if people don't mind if he is sold.

Not only that, he actually got his first few games at LB. Since his reluctance to put his foot in has become apparent, I've been wondering if there's some injury niggle behind it.

Be that as it may, I really really hope we can hold on to him. If we can't, we'd better charge the Earth for him.

It's his first season in the Premiership and it's universally accepted and appreciated that Raul Meireles had a brilliant debut season and for a while, carried the team when we were otherwise completely out of ideas.

Losing him would be insane.

Strange. If we do this it can only be because we can't get shot of Aquilani. They are similar in many ways though Aqua seems less flexible, both like to play as attacking mids, both are pussies in the tackle, both like to get into the box (though I'd much rather have Ming here), both are excellent one touch players with vision.

I still think Miereles will stay and Aquilani go.

He's an attacking midfielder. If Suarez did the same would you be prepared to sell him? It's a stupid fucking point.

Froggy, I wonder if that's the reason, given (a) Ming's excellence last season, which I'd have expected to mean we'd want to keep him whatever happened over Aquilani, and (b) the suggestions of a wage dispute.

As for your last sentence/para - here's hoping.
