A touch harsh on N'gog??
He had to lead the line on his own for bst part of an hour and did he best to hold it up. I remember him winning about four free's in a row to relieve pressure and give us a chance to get men forward. Babel didn't do a good job in replacing him either.

Three times in injury time Lucas cleared the danger in our box, including one brilliant block on anichebe.

It defies belief how little of a clue some of you have.

He won a header, a free on the edge of the box and made that tackle with Anichebe. It's mad how some will ignore that.

Why is the Greek getting a higher rating than some of the players that actually helped us get the win?
[/quote]

Because some people are utterly fucking clueless. Great performance by all those in red today.

I think you're right on both counts Livvy.

How good was Pepe's palming away of Anichebe's cross 8) Nerves of steel in extra time.

Babel was horrible.

Can't believe we didn't let Birmingham have him.

Kuyt and Masch were superb.

Gerrard is back thankfully.

Reina -7- must be quiest derby hes ever had
Carragher -8- aside fro the wreckless tackle on Pinear he was pretty good today, still looks like a fish out of water at fullback, some really poor attempts at crossing, looked much better when switched inside
Kyrgiakos -4- stupid tackle that put us in a terrible position, missing for 3 games now
Agger -6- much prefer the shape of the team when hes in the side
Insua -6- he slowly seems to be recovering his confidence, got caught out late by Anichebe
Lucas -6- one of his better games, hes more suited to this type of gae than anything requiring sublety or attacking flair
Mascherano -8- back to his best, fool blooded commitment, you suspect he really looks forward to the games where tackles start flying
Gerrard -7- controlled but effective, still a long way short of his explosive best, thats become the norm this season
Rodriguez -5- didnt do anything of erit good or bad
Kuyt -8- another who is better suited to these sort of occasions, tireless and snatched the vital oppurtunity. His recent spell upfront has proved hes really a forward not a wide player. Seems to love the derby
Ngog -6- tough, he was very isolated especailly after the sending off but he managed to win freekicks and releive soe pressure, he has come on alot since the start of the season

Babel -5- we were in a holding pattern by the time he played and as such didnt get much of the ball, good to see hi back in the frame though
Aurelio -5- nothing of note to report

Rafa -7- got it right with the Lucas for Aqualani call, I dont believe the Maxi gamble paid off as he never got into the game, another win and another clean sheet, another defensive reshuffle required in the next week

They were all superb today. Lucas especially.

Its performances like that, that make you so proud to be a Red.

I cant wait for the pub tomorrow with the bluenoses!

I am really suprised by some of the ratings Ngog has gotten.

I was very pleased with his performance. Everyone talks about the ferocity of this derby and then seemingly forget how difficult it must be for a young striker to play up front on his own against a physical defence.

He held the ball up, won fouls, stretched their defence and at times also pulled off some pretty smooth stuff. He still has the tendency to mix the sublime with the ridiculous, but if we persist with him, we might see more and more of the sublime.

Contrast that with Babel jogging about at his leisure doing an occasional karate kick to try win the ball (was very unhappy with him today).

thats harsh on babel, we had surrendered territory by the time he came on and the rest of the team were spent from playing with 10 men for so long, he was completely isolated

It's not harsh at all. Babel looked completely uninterested and clueless - as usual. I agree with Keni: Wash tends to suffer from the comparison with Torres, but hey, who wouldn't? The difference when Babel came on really illustrated how well Wash had done in that position beforehand.

The lads deserve nothing but praise for showing bottle under trying circumstances. This is the type of pride that the players should show week in and week out. Every player deserves a 10 for the immense spirit that was displayed. Massive 3 points.

I don't agree that Babel looked uninterested.

If anything he was trying too hard and came off looking rather hapless.

He appears to be rather clueless as regards closing down and such.
