Benitez to Inter within 48 hours?
Saturday 5 June, 2010
There are reports Inter could appoint Rafa Benitez within 48 hours, sparking transfer bids for Liverpool’s Javier Mascherano and Dirk Kuyt.

Benitez is now free to engage in negotiations after accepting an early termination by mutual consent with the new Anfield owners.

The Italian media are confident the Spaniard will pen a new deal with Inter within the next 48 hours, as President Massimo Moratti has given the all-clear.

“Benitez is a Coach with real personality, just what we needed after Jose Mourinho,†said Walter Samuel.

“He certainly knows how to work within a high-pressure locker room environment.â€

With Rafa, the tactician is also likely to bring other stars from the Liverpool squad.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, he has requested midfielder Mascherano and forward Kuyt to reinforce the squad.

Liverpool could be tempted into accepting a double £37m offer for both players.

“Benitez will really fit in with Italian football, as he is a very tactical person who studies the games carefully,†Mascherano told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Will I follow him to Milan? I don’t know anything about my future yet. I can only say that I spent some wonderful years with him and his style of football suits me perfectly.â€

The cash would be raised by selling Douglas Maicon to Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid for around £25m.

I'd resist a bid for mash (unless its swap plus money for touré) I'd sell kuyt though and put the money towards a decent winger.

I think we should all accept that Mascher is leaving us.

If we can get close to £40m for him and Kuyt, with nobody else leaving and all the money reinvested, then i wouldn't be too unhappy.

It does look likely, unfortunately. We have to stiff them for every last penny for him - close to £40 mill.is OK provided it's over rather than under that figure. I wouldn't be in a hurry to sell Deadly, whom I'd sooner also keep (at least as a squaddie), but overall he'll be less of a loss to us IMO.

Me too Rafa4PM. Mash is definitely offski.

I remember Piedro saying how Mascher wasn't happy in Liverpool ages ago mate, I was surprised that we managed to keep him for last season tbh.

Cambiasso in the deal?

If we get Maradona as our boss, that deal will fall through, no doubt.

We could do a darn sight worse.

No thanks. Lots of talent but a head full of feathers. Throw in Zanetti, though, and we can do business.
[/quote]

Bang on.

I think we'd have bob hope of getting one Javier for another.

He rates Benitez only behind Mourinho.

Where did you hear that?

Zanetti?? He's 37 isn't he??

Anyways, Masch is off. He rates Benitez only behind Mourinho.

37 and still great.

I know, it's crazy.

I wonder if he will bring Lucas with him?

Christ, someone had better take the cunt, it was one of the main reasons I was happy Benitez went

I was looking for a £2-3 mill.makeweight and, as themn says, he's still got plenty in his locker - easily good enough. Themn's also right that we probably haven't a snowflake's of getting him though.

I doubt he'd want to come TBH. At that age a huge change for maybe one/two years at most wouldnt be most peoples choice.

He's been there since 1995, played over 700 times, 5 Serie A titles.

There's every chance I could be wrong.

*hurble burble*

He played every minute of every game last season (except one he was suspended for).

Can't wait to see his reaction to being rested.

I wonder what the reaction will be if Benitez flops it in Italy.

Domestic and CL winners - and no excuses about money. Hmm
