Apparently some rags and radio stations this morning are saying Rafa wants to stay and is suggesting selling Stevie and Nando to get the money he thinks the club needs to compete.

£100 million estimate, for one I would not trust the fecker with the money and two I want him out anyway.

Surely this is just silly season press but it has come up in a lot of places this morning

Now I know Torres is looking a bit Mr Glass and Stevie has had his worst season for a while but surely this cannot be justified by anyone even for £100 million

Greater good, anyone?

Id be happy if Gerrard finally got his move to Real Madrid and we were given silly amounts of money for the move..

If we sell Torres ill cry a little.. However, he has come out and stated that he doesnt know how much longer he can take the physical nature of the premiership. If he has lost his bottle and is not happy then we should look to sell if we get the right offer.. that being a 100 million minimum.

Id fucking hate to see Benitez with the cash though. No more robots.... PLEASSSSSSSSSSEEE

At the risk of repeating myself.....................

if it was down to simple mathematics then we would be mad not to accept an offer of £60m+ for Fernando or a £30m+ for Stevie or Masher.
But I just happen to have a teeney bit of emotional investment in Liverpool and it's players and if it was up to me I just couldn't do it.
It would be like selling your children

I couldn't sell both. It's comforting to know we have two world class outfield players in attacking positions. I'd worry about who Rafa would replace them with.

It would also risk sending out the message that we've become a selling club. Sometimes a player's value to a club is more than just what the club might get on resale.

BTW I doubt Rafa's unaware of that and actually *wants* to sell. The thread title was poorly chosen IMO.

Uh oh. Its gonna be a long summer

Yep. We'd better just watch the WC games and forget about the really important football matters...

Barrett seems to think Rafa will lead the team for his final game against Hull. And hopefully thats true. Selling your two best players? Trust a man with 2 years of disastrous transfer dealings with 100 mill? Yeah right.
Lets get in a new manager and let Stevie and Nando guide us to glory.

I agree with this totally, but realistically it all depends on how deep the pockets of our new owners are. The squad needs good new players in four or five different positions, and if we have a net transfer fund of £20m we are going to struggle. At least one of the crown jewels might have to be sold if that's the case. Of the three biggies, I'd say Mascher is the least likely to go as he's the youngest, would probably fetch the least money, and is rarely injured. Torres is the world's best striker but has played in less than half our matches for the last two seasons. Gerrard is one of the world's best players, but has had a dismal season and will soon be 30. I don't think it's out of the question that we would sell one of them, and perhaps even both. Hopefully the new owners will give us the means to avoid that, but you'd have to be an ostrich not to consider the possibility.

For sure. It's the desirability of it that's in question, on the basis that there's more at stake than simply their current market value.

What new owners?

There's fuck all going on of any interest on that score.

DIC/ Barcap rumours are bollocks

So you don't think we'll have new owners anytime soon then Bren?

No smoke without fire.

Would someone like Broughton have come on board, especially if he's working only one day a week, unless something were on the horizon?

I'd imagine that was the thrust of his reply.

I was more interested to know why he thinks "There's fuck all going on of any interest on that score".

Last seasons transfer market advertised to everyone, our players, other teams, the press, the weakness throughout the club. It destroyed morale before the season started. It didn't reward past success.

If we were to do this, it would be 10 times worse.

If Gerrard or Torres leaves the club before cunts like Lucas and Insua, I will stop watching LFC
[/quote]

no you wont, you'd WANT to stop watching liverpool but match day you'd be there front and center. what else is the to do on a saturday sunday?

the squad is paper thing several positions need servicing and we enjoy the brilliance of torres for about a season, if a significant amount of money (and I'm talking a minimum of 70m) then I'd sell torres, which is a shame because I think he is the best striker I've ever seen.

I reckon he's guessing pure and simple.

Then again he might have seen something secret with those shifty eyes.

Imagine Rafa with £100 million

erm, how many rights backs can I get for that

To replace Stevie and Nando, their creativity, goals and drive would require at least

2 x top strikers (approx £60 million)
1 x top LW (£15 million)
Aqualani to play his socks of in CM next to Masher
1 x top LB (£10 million)
1 x top RW (£15 million)

£100 million, well spent maybe and the sales did their job they were supposed to

sounds easy :-\

if no new owners come in within the next year then torres will be sold sooner rather than later its absolutely inevitable. selling to buy will weaken us further meaning we'll struggle to meet loan repayments which means funds from turnover/sales will be siphoned off to pay the load. its a vicious circle that will continue.
