Chelsea Fucked?

You didn't have some respect for the team (not the fans) when it was Zola, Vialli, Desailly, TheBeef, JFH, Eidur etc? It was once a fun top 10 team.

Nah, Desailly should have signed for us but wanted London life. Vialli was Legend but past it, rest were just fannies who wanted London life mate.

It's this for me, they aren't a Man City, a tiny nothing club with few fans, or historic achievement. Chelsea has a history and has always been a big part of the London football make up, the club being run out of existence would be a big loss for English football.

The whole reason the oligarchs launder their money here is because the law which protects the working class bastard also protects them. Now that poor bastard is going to clap along like a seal as those laws distinigrate into ash, so they can get them there mean evil billionaire oligarchs, so they can tweet "ha ha got you #istandwithukraine" to them as they are on their yatch getting sucked off by a supermodel, the feels of the working class bastard as they send the tweet is what counts. All about the feels. Woke fools.
Freezing assets is one thing but seizing them and selling them on without due process feels totalitarian

Apart from the lower end workers scratching a living from the club I don't mind seeing them crash and burn. They've only been relevant since the Russian millions circa 2003. So the manager, coaches, players and the classless fans can go to fuck.
I do laugh whenever the media refer to Chelsea as an 'Historic' club.

Bit like how the Russian people got fucked over when their resources were stolen from them years ago. No?
Russia isn't seizing their assets my issue that there isn't due process, if they can do that to billionaires what's to stop them doing it to us?

Sky News reporting Barclays have “temporarily” suspended Chelsea’s bank account.
Which isn’t good news for them, but does at least mean they actually have one.

So what does that mean? Incomings and outgoings to the account frozen?

Yes. Not cancelled but held up until the bank can be comfortable it’s all OK. This may just be a routine thing but it feels to me like the bank are worried they might be facilitating transactions which breach the sanctions. That may be just a general concern or may be a result of suspicious transactions. Either way, it’s right they should do some checks.
I’ve mentioned previously that I thought Chelsea might be part of a group banking structure. Their last accounts only show £4k of cash which is probably till floats, and no bank debt. So I think their funds (positive or negative) get swept into a group banking facility at the end of each day. If that’s the case, Barclays may be concerned that all their money is going to / coming from Abramovich (or sanctioned entities) on a daily basis. Which would obviously be a problem if Barclays allowed it to happen. I stress MAY - this is just a theory I have based on reviewing the accounts and I could be way off base. It’s also possible that even if my theory is correct, they may have put independent bank facilities in place since their last year end (May 2021).

Remember those times when some of us wished for an Oligarch or some Arab to buy the club from G&H ?

Well it’s a good thing we resisted the temptation to sell our souls didn’t we ? Hindsight is a good thing and all but suddenly our yanks don’t seem that bad after all.

Until they line their pockets with the inevitable Salah sale…let’s be thankful
Personally I've never once found 'our yanks' bad in any way - well apart from the super league debacle. Even then though they somehow convinced me through Henry's personal apology that while mis-guided they were essentially sound. Look at how they dealt with the pandemic and the loss of revenue. Steps were made and the financial security of the club remained (and still does) reasonably solid. People bitched about the lack of signings. Yeah it was annoying but given the choice if endangering the financial structure of the club or appeasing the fans with some kind of marquee signing - I know what I'd prefer. Then there is the Anfield redevelopment and the surrounding community in general that is still continuing right now. (brilliantly I have to say).

"Until they line their pockets with the inevitable Salah sale…let’s be thankful" - I don't really like this comment because it implies something that's truly not fair. I'm thankful that none of those points above can be attributed to LFC. If Salah goes then he goes. I'm certainly not blaming the owners. My brother is a Newcastle season ticket holder. The Faustian nature of what is happening with them is not lost on him and he's been shocked by the obvious duplicity of fans on display there.

Aww you're still asking it as a question. Bless your little cotton socks. Nothing will stop them doing it to you. Within a decade you will know to just keep your head down, be a good earner of social credits, and hopefully with a bit of luck your miserable life may pass without incident.

Imagine you run a brewery. Become wealthy. Then alcohol is rightfully oulawed as a barbaracic state sponsored poisoning campaign of the working class. This could happen sooner than you imagine. You can picture all the frothing anger about beer the same as they froth about racism and the climate today. Alcohol will be cancelled. Historical profiteering from alcohol will be an act of pure evil. So there you are, feet up, enjoying retirement, and boom, sanctions, your ill gotten wealth taken from you overnight, because you're a no good beerist who deserves to die. Not naming names, but I can think of a couple of socialists who won't love to see it.

On how they dealt with the pandemic, their first reaction was to furlough all staff with the intention of grabbing the government subsidy

There was an attempt to trademark the word "Liverpool"

There was the attempted ticket price hike

Each of those, along with the move to the Super League, were ill thought out moves that with a minimum of consultation they could have avoided.

They are not as bad as some, but they are not without fault

That sanctimonious twat on Irish radio, Mat Cooper, was banging on today about how Abramovich was different to other billionaires in sport because he made his money off the backs of Russian people. His argument being that Abramovic was a "bad" billionaire, while others in Sport were somehow "good".
His grasp of economics, for one who purports to be well educated, is so pitiful that he cannot see that any billionaire, whatever their nationality, made their money of the backs off the people/working class. Even the supposedly lovable Jack Walker of yesteryear made his fortune on the backs of the North West steel workers when he turned their unpaid labour into his personal profit.

Well if that’s the way you look at it. I suppose that’s true. Thing is what do you think they’re in it for? It’s a business. The fact they actually (Mis-steps aside) find a balance between a substainable business model and keeping the integrity of the club, fans and community happy…. Well as you said Tom. They’re certainly not as bad as some…

I think we can be pretty certain you’ll be cancelled long before beer.

I think you're missing the point here.

I'm sure the majority of forumites agree with you (I do). It isn't right or fair. But it's still funny when misfortune befalls your enemies.
