So what happens if many countries in Europe say that they're not willing to change their league schedule?

Qatar 2022 World Cup award may be a mistake, says Sepp Blatter
Fifa may have made a "mistake" in awarding the 2022 World Cup to Qatar, according to president Sepp Blatter.

Football Association chairman Greg Dyke said it would be "impossible" to play in such conditions, and Blatter wants the tournament moved to the winter.
Asked by insideworldfootball.com about awarding Qatar the tournament, the 77-year-old said: "It may well be that we made a mistake at the time."

Blatter, who in May said it was "not rational" to play the World Cup in Qatar in June and July, added: "On the other hand, you must also consider political and geo-political realities. "The World Cup is Fifa's biggest, if not only, global event. Who are we, the Europeans, to demand that this event has to cater to the needs of 800million Europeans above all?

"I think it is high time that Europe starts to understand that we do not rule the world anymore, and that some former European imperial powers can no longer impress their will onto others in far away places. "We must accept that football has moved away from being a European and South American sport - it has become the world sport that billions of fans are excitedly following every week, everywhere in the world."Blatter hopes Fifa's executive committee will follow his proposal to switch the tournament to the winter when it meets next month. Should that be the case, the Swiss added: "The next steps will include a close look at the international calendar and to establish what consequences the change would have.

"And we would naturally need to speak to and consult with all interested parties and stakeholders."
Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said in July that switching the 2022 World Cup to winter would cause "absolute chaos" for football leagues around the world.
Qatar defeated bids from South Korea, Japan, Australia and the United States to win a ballot of Fifa's 22 executive members in 2010 to host the tournament.

What a twat. We may have made a mistake but those damn Europeans want everything their own way, it's time they learnt a lesson!

Sepp Blatter is a cunt.
He's cooked a dish that world football will regret while he himself may not be around anymore...
It will probably be Platini's headache

Australia may seek 2022 Fifa World Cup compensation
Australia's soccer chief Frank Lowy says his country's Football Federation (FFA) may seek compensation if the 2022 World Cup is switched to the winter.
Australia was one of four countries that lost out to Qatar, despite spending £25.27m on its bid.
Qatar has temperatures of 50 degrees Celsius in June and July, so Fifa is debating holding a winter tournament for the first time.
"Australia invested heavily in the World Cup process," Lowy said.
"Since December 2010 Australia has been careful not to let its misgivings about the process be interpreted as sour grapes.
"But now, with increasing speculation about a change that will impact on us as one of the bidding nations, and because our competition will be affected, we have made our position public."

Lowy was quoted in a FFA statement that asked Fifa to look at awarding compensation.
It read: "Fifa's 3 October meeting should consider the following: An in-principle decision that just and fair compensation should be paid to those nations that invested many millions, and national prestige, in bidding for a summer event."
Qatar beat Australia, Japan, South Korea and the United States to win the right to host the 2022 World Cup.
Lowy, the billionaire owner of the Westfield shopping centre empire, is also urging Fifa's executive board to not make a quick decision about moving the tournament to a date when the weather will be cooler.
He said: "Better to let the independent investigative process run its natural course and then, with those issues settled, make a clear-eyed assessment about rescheduling and its consequences."

'fuck dat that the city isn't even built' ... ha ha he's great

'fuck dat how we're going to squeeze 2 million people into this little ass country'

'fifa, fuck you! fuck you! i'm serious mother fuckers, fuck you!'

Legal eagles... I would have thunked that the other bidders would have a strong case to say that the thing tendered for is not the thing that is happening and they could seek compensation. Australia certainly seem to think to so... Are they right?

Yeah ok there's massive article about that there... Quiffmongous... But anyways - it seems reasonable that the thing is so different to what they spent all that money bidding for that they should have to rebid or something.

I dunno how it works though... I mean I doubt FIFA are covered by the kinda guidelines I've got to follow in the EU. I don't even know if there are any global agreements for this kinda thing.

I think FIFA make up the rules as they go along.

Do they answer to anyone?

Nope. Out of the other 99 wealthiest businesses in the world they are the only one not subject to any body or regulatory panel with no independent checks on finances or anything else they do.

I might start my own world cup with a different sport. You know something that makes me money hand over fist.

Is there a soggy biscuit world cup?

We should ditch world cups and national football altogether for all star games - premier league XII v la Liga, Serie A, Bayern Munich, Eredivisie, Celtic, Brazilian Serie A and so on.

On a serious note I'm starting to warm to the idea of a winter world cup, just for the novelty. I know summer is the tradition but the thought of being cosy on the sofa or in the bar during the depths of winter watching world cup matches sounds alright to me.

Maybe I'm wrong but I get the impression that this is going to be played to empty stadia, most of the people there will only be showing their faces for the sake of it... there aren't any pubs and whatever you think about alcohol it kinda goes hand in hand with getting an atmosphere together. No one is going to travel to it.

Australia would be a great choice. Bit of a bastard with the time difference but there are already zillions of ex pats from all over the world and people would make a big trip out of it. I would go if I had the dough around that time. If not I'd just go nocturnal for a month.

NO!

I've said it before & I'll say it again, the only countries that should host the world cup are :

England
France
Germany
Spain
Italy
Holland
Portugal
Argentina
Brazil
Mexico
Uruguay

Thats it.

yeah but given that FIFA is genuinely into blorting its gooey wad into every orifice that will entertain it, if new territories are to be explored I would rather they were places that sold loads of beer and had a laugh and weren't governed by a load of backward hand chopper offers.

Mind you that new Ozzie PM would probably go down a storm in Qatar.
