.................. but, still, that midfield of Modric, Kroos and Casemiro – combined age 98 – could be physically overwhelmed. The 4-0 home defeat by Barcelona and the first hour of the game at the Etihad this season show how susceptible Madrid can be to the press.

There is then, perhaps, an argument for Carlo Ancelotti to start Eduardo Camavinga, probably in place of Kroos, given what he would add in terms of energy. But Kroos was instrumental in Madrid’s victory over Liverpool last season, and Camavinga has been extremely effective coming off the bench in the knockout phase. It may be that, as at Chelsea, Federico Valverde is used in a more withdrawn role on the right.

The likelihood is that there will be a period of the game in which Liverpool’s greater physicality will give them an edge. Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and City all had those spells. What is essential is that they take advantage of it.

Memories of last season will make Liverpool wary of the threat of Mendy getting forward on the left, but he has only three goal involvements in the league this season and will probably be engaged largely in stopping Salah, although he could be exposed if Vinícius stays high in a game of chicken with Alexander-Arnold.

On the other side, though, Dani Carvajal could represent a real opportunity for Liverpool. He looks an old 30, sluggish on the turn, and while there is no great shame in being exposed by Kylian Mbappé, he has also struggled against Riyad Mahrez and Chelsea’s Timo Werner/Marcos Alonso axis. The likelihood is it will be Luis Díaz who starts on the Liverpool left, but there must be a temptation for Jürgen Klopp to get Sadio Mané running at Carvajal.

Im not confident. Think our high line vs Vinicius will be a nightmare. I guess Konate will start cos of his pace but it's a big game for someone so inexperienced and he still has mistakes in him, like vs Wolves Soton and Villareal. Hopefully Ali has yet another blinder.

Up top we've not been great. Mane always dangerous but he's lost his touch lately. Mo been quiet for months so my big hope is Diaz.

As usual it'll probably be won or lost in MF. Fab hasn't been great at times lately and maybe not up to speed. Hendo has been a mixed bag too. Thiago probably starting, though Klopp likes Keita in Europe. Just dont see them doing enough to keep Modric, Kroos, Casameiro quiet.

Only worry I have is us being rusty and disjointed due to the injuries in midfield.
I am sure Klopp will set us up to block Vinicius somehow. Hendo helping Trent, Konate/Matip also there.
Question is if we dare push Trent up to see if Vinicius will then have to drop back. I suspect Ancelotti will make the left mid come across to cover rather than make Vinicius go back, as the right forward will tuck in to make up the numbers in their midfield.
We might be able to overpower their aging midfield for a while, like noted above, if our forwards also hit them hard with pressure.

Carlo Ancelotti's side have been dominated for large parts in all three of their knockout matches against PSG, Chelsea and Manchester City. In those six games they lost the total shots count 67-110, the shots on target count 26-40 and the corner count 15-39.

Of course, many will point to the important statistic of goals which tilted 15-12 in their favour over the six games but a little check at the expected goals numbers - calculating the quality of chances created - shows us that over those games, Real lost the xG battle with Chelsea and Manchester City squandering 10 big chances, defined by Opta, between them.

Chelsea, Manchester City and PSG aren't accustomed or thrive playing with the backdrop of chaos - that's where Real Madrid took those matches at key points and flourished. However, Ancelotti's team are bumping into the kings of chaos here. Liverpool want the game to become stretched and frantic, it's where their aggressive press takes control of matches.

Jeebus. That was a few years ago.
I suppose they don't come around that often. Since then we have had:

*from memory*

05 v Milan
06 v Milan
The UEFA Cup one when Klopp first joined v Seville?
V Madrid
V Spurs

So five in about 20 years.

Stop worrying, I've got your back Dude

Take your pick
4.45pm Heineken Champions Cup final Leinster v Rochelle
5pm Leinster Championship Final Dublin v Kildare
Rugby is just a sport for fat guys who never got picked to play football and gaelic football is just hurling's poorer brother

With reference to rugby specifically, in the immortal words of Shakespeare, "Is it f'ck". Rugby is massively more brutal than football will ever be.

Bit random but does anyone know a VPN than can through the BT sport app? I've tried about six and nome seem to get through.

I'm in a hotel in Istanbul right now and I'd rather not have to rely on a shitty soccer stream for the CL final.

Is there other options?
