Pre Match - Man City (H) - Sunday 16:30

Some key issues that will decide this one :

City are going to have a full high team press - most teams haven't done that against us which has allowed us to dictate and plan attacks. That's not going to happen, we will often lose possession so the long balls out of defence (or Matip driving into/thru midfield) by VvD & Matip (or even Konate, a better long range passer than Gomez) will be very important.

TAA missing may be a blessing defensively but is going to cost us offensively. Milner should be much sounder and as we'll be deeper than usual that could actually help Milner's lack of pace out. How are we going to cover TAA's input? Put more emphasis on Robbo? Push Hendo onto the right more to provide the width and crosses.

PSG left M'Bappe and Messi further upfield to play on the break and force City to also stay deeper than they usually would. Mo & Jota could do that but that weakens the help given to Milner, who will need a lot of help from Hendo, as he will be up against Cancelo ((who has been ace whenever I've watched him), Rodri (also great this season) and Grealish. Fabs must control the centre and Jones must help out Robbo against Walker, Silva + Mahrez or Jesus.

Thiago is going to be a big miss in terms of control and retaining possession. Jones isn't going to be able to do that. I love Jones' forward driving runs but it isn't going to be all out attack vs defence all game. We may be better in attack but lose some midfield control. This may play into Klopp's decision of Jones vs Keita who is more 'that player' but we'll lose attacking potential.

Firmino could be chosen over Jota for simply the reason above. Losing Thiago and playing Jones (over Keita) means less midfield control. Jota may give us the same energy as Bobby but loses possession more often (it seems - I don't have the stats) so Firmino could be chosen simply to help ball retention.

So : Jones or Keita? Firmino or Jota ? Or for a shock selection : Matip or Konate?

Didn't realise Daniel Craig is a big Liverpool fan.

"I would be a really bad James Bond" - Jurgen Klopp responds to praise from Daniel Craig.

Watched a ton of preview videos this afternoon. Some of the pundits forecasts :

Liverpool : Nicol (3-2), McCoist, Agbonlahor, Michallik, Owen (2-1), Redknapp,
Draw : (Telegraph), Burley (2-2), Onuoha (2-2), Lawrenson, Merson (2-2), Evening Standard (2-2)
City : NBC (1-2)

NBC

The main injury concern for Liverpool is Trent Alexander-Arnold, as he seems likely to miss out with a groin problem. That means veteran James Milner will slot in at right back. Thiago Alcantara is out for a few more weeks with a calf issue, while Harvey Elliott is out long-term after his ankle injury.

—-------------------– Alisson —–
— Milner — Matip — Van Dijk — Robertson —
—- Henderson —- Fabinho —- Jones —-
—- Salah —- Jota —- Mane —-

Ilkay Gundogan is out until after the international break with a thigh injury, while Oleksandr Zinchenko could return. Benjamin Mendy remains suspended by the club.

—-----------------– Ederson —–
— Walker — Dias — Laporte — Cancelo —
—- De Bruyne —- Rodri —- Silva —-
—- Jesus —- Foden —- Grealish —-

Do I have to merge the threads to cancel out the jinx?

Yikes... Someone else Onions here... I'll change my username if I can to avoid confusion since I'm new. Anyone know how? Menu looks similar to forums I've been on before but change username link is missing.

Three tough away games in a row for City... You have to wonder how burnt out they will be before facing us... We didn't take Porto lightly, but I suspect we may be less mentally shot that City right now.

I wouldn't be surprised if City are a little too exhausted to deal with us tomorrow. It's hard to keep up that level for so long. We may have travelled but the lads had a fairly uplifting midweek challenge.

Liam Neesan Micra.

I can only think of 5.

2 bangers in Caroline Wozniacki and Lana del Ray

Sheamus the big irish brute,

The legend that is Samuel Jackson and the best spy in UK that is Daniel Craig.

Excluding Lebron J who's already a minority shareholder.

Don't sweat it ... and welcome !

Thank you!

I was very briefly here (for maybe a week) a while ago but had some craziness in my life and dropped off the internet for a while. Can't remember my old username/password or it got deleted for inactivity so signed up fresh.

(Old account name would have been something onion soup or something milk most likely, on the off chance anyone remembers me...🙂)

Mike Myers, Kim Cattrall, Millie Bobby Brown, Damien Lewis, Jason Issacs... loads

BBC vote : I'd take Silva over Foden and swap sides with DB & change Mane for Jota. Mane over Grealish a distinct possibility ... maybe 10 Liverpool players and just DB making our lineup?

Surely even the most biased fan couldn’t argue Matip over Dias.

If you want to continue on as Onion Soup, sweet and enjoy the craziness! 🙂
If you want to go back to Milk and Kebabs, I pinged you your 'new' password and you can 'start' again there - welcome back! 🙂

Welcome back. You’ve missed @Dreambeliever costing us a European cup, Brendan being banned for being a racist and Oncy being sacrificed to the League title gods and is in another place.

You should be up to speed now.

Think JK should play Jota as he holds his position more than Booby. The attention Jota gets gives Salah a bit more room. But the Boss might think Bobby coming deep will. at times, give us a foot in both camps so to speak. I'd rather have Jota in there, we want an attacking intensity, pace, pressure and power, We don't need to outhink or outfox Pep. JK shouldn't make this into a battle of wits.

They are vulnerable to pressure. They very rarely get put under the Kosh. So lets batter them into submission. As well as that they don't sit deep, I mean they will have to but it's not their game. With Fab, Hendo and Jones, esp Jones backing up the attack we can cut into them. Could well be Hendo's day.I fancy him to score today. A rare treat.

Gomez in today for me. He's the quickest from a standing start. So going for a 1-0...poss 1-1.

Like most of this, but don't see any value in starring gomez. No way he's playing better than Matip, and he's infinitely worse than Milner at RB.
