Pre match: Leicester (A)

I'm not going to call for Klopp's head if we lose. Obviously I want to win, but, perfectly understandable if we drop points here.

... And I still consider City our main rivals for the title.

They wont rest Vardy for this one. Joe G has had a nice little run in the 1st team and is well settled in. He should have enough pace to deal with a 32yr old.

This will probably our toughest test so far this season. They've not lost a single match at their own turf, they've also conceded 5 in the 9 matches played and drew against Wolves (0-0) in their first match of the season and more recently against Norwich (1-1). Vardy been scoring freely at their own backyard, they have scored 19 at their own turf. We have somewhat similar outcome in our away games, with one draw against Ole and 7 wins so far. We have only registered 16 goals away from home, but surprisingly tighter in defence with also 5 goals conceded, like Leicester.

On paper this might be a match we could drop points. Not going to be easy with their players all on top of their game, and we had to fly back 3K miles from Qatar. Our options are paper thin at the back line, and our midfielders are playing with fumes. No signs of Lovren and Matip being fit, and we might have lost Ox for a month or two. I am not very confident going into this boxing day fixture. Heck with the squad we have now, I am not too confident going into this hectic two months.

Disclaimer: I am also known to be a very pessimistic fan.

City made them look pretty average. They're obviously going to sit Vardy on whoever partners Virgil as every striker on the planet minus Messi is shit scared of him.
I'd play the usual team with Milner, Hendo, Keita in the middle.

Doubt we will see Keita starts for this one, it is going to be the boring 3 of Henderson, Wijnaldum and Milner.

Will be a tough game, no doubt.
Vardy likes playing against us and Rodgers would love to beat us.

I’d go:

Alisson
TAA Gomez Virgil Robbo
Gini Hendo Keita
Salah Firmino Mane

I'd be happy with a draw

If we can keep the lead to +6 or 7 into mid-Feb I think we're sorted

I wonder if Leicester will go for the jugular and risk defeat or play conservatively. I trust VVD vs Vardy. I think they’d cause us trouble if they put 2 up top with Iheanacho too, but would fancy our chances of keeping them quiet if they deploy Barnes & Perez. I’d like to see Keita in the middle with Hendo & Gini to keep their own midfield worried about forward runs.

The front three are all in form now, the CWC was great timing for Bobby and now we need him to bring his a game to this. I’m buzzing for this one.

As long as we don't play to their strengths by playing with a high line and pressing with our midfield allowing Vardy and Maddison space in the middle, we should be fine. I think Klopp should tell the players not to force it, trust the individual skill of Mane, Salah and Firmino. Get a goal early if possible which would force them forward and disrupt their game.

It is a tough call for Brendan. If they were chasing in 5th-6thI think they definately would play two up front. Now suddenly they have plenty to lose.

I see the the other way around mate.

If he wants to challenge for the league, after that city defeat he absolutely must take three points off us.

If he thinks that they'll realistically be top 4 plus maybe get a cup, then he may be much more pragmatic.

He'll also have to rest players at some point, their run of games is horrible.

Can Rodgers play a defensive and pragmatic game though? Think he’ll set them up to go for it.

If they put two up top then Gomez & VvD can mark Vardy and just let Iheanacho get on with it. He might eventually hit one below the rafters.
