Post-match Arsenal away

The major concern was the inability to hold onto the ball after we scored the fourth.

When Xabi, Mascherano, Gerrard and Rafa here we would have seen that game out without conceding another just by keeping the ball, controlling the midfield, playing smart and having a balanced set up. The best teams can manage all manner of game situations and we just can't.

I am not sure if Klopp really believes in controlling the games using Xabi , Mascher style midfielders. It might be something we need to get adjusted to. I have not watched a lot of Dortmund but some of the games in their champions league final appearance run were not too dissimilar to todays game.

He is more Ferguson than Rafa or Mourinho. Rather than customizing a defense to neutralize threats, I think he is all about put enough goal scoring attacking players on the pitch who can press like crazy, whip the crowd into a frenzy and create a mental environment with the crowd and the team feeding off each other. Irrespective of what he might say about the goals conceded I think he loves the chaos. If we win every game 1-0 he might get bored and quit.

I do know he had midfield players like Gundogan, Sahin, Bender(?) at Dortmund but I am not sure if he ever used them the way Rafa used Xabi, Mascherano.

We started poorly and it looked like the lads had run a half marathon during the warm up.. . Perhaps nerves or the heavy preseason work load? The Movement to provide second and third options for the player in possession was minimal, quite a few players looked to be hiding initially. .I don't think I even saw Lallana until 20 minutes in.. Henderson had some heavy touches when picking the ball up from defense.. this limited his ability to look up and pick a pass and it made it easy for Arsenal to predict where the ball was going to go. He needs to find his touch if he's going to play that deep linking role again.

Moreno was terrible.. he rarely makes the right decision and he looked very low on confidence. He started his run a little early for my liking but Lallana was far too casual in the centre of the pitch. A few stupid lunging attempted tackles again. Embarrassing.

Wijnaldum was caught in no man's land a lot and Henderson was getting dragged out of position. I was very worried, our lightweight players were all getting in each others way and had no idea what to do.. we looked horrible in the first 20 to 30mins.

Very impressed with the start of second half. Some excellent play. Amazing goals.

Apparently we broke the record for Km travelled as a team during this game. We looked pretty slow and heavy legged a lot and we were lucky that they were missing some key players. We looked incapable of reacting quick enough to switches in play or to passes inbetween the lines. We got opened up a little too easily but they also looked pretty rusty.

Amazing game to start the year. Lots of positives and some worrying signs that we might be in for a few frustrating days

I used to love listening to Gary Neville.
I cannot stand him anymore ... NOt sure why -

Well he talked the talk and tried to walk the walk but he stumbled and had to go back to talking.
So my problem with him I guess is that deep down I think that guy should be in a wheel chair.

Does it make sense?

He got the ball.
It was tiny studs only contact but it was contact. I dont see why it was ignored by the pundits.
He took the ball then the player.
Not a pen for me, but I can see why the ref gave it, you could only see it in slowmo

Klopp said the same in his post match presser. Actually it was a good presser by Klopp, he showed he was well aware of what the problems were.

As for Ryans point that we cannot press for a whole game, well we didn't in the first half, Arsenal did which stifled our game! Moreno was far too far forward for the first goal, look where Clyne was. However bye and large I thought we defended well enough, they really had hardly any chances, an unlucky deflection and an offside goal from the freekick. If their second goal had gone straight into Mings arms I don't they would have been so up for it.
Like the cut of our Estonian units jib too.

Xhaka had a poor game when he came on. A few heavy touches didn't do him any favours.

I was really impressed with Mane. We now have a player who can conjure up a goal out of nothing.

Not a regular poster cos I am lazy as fuck but overall happy. No need to mention Moreno, he is a cluster fuck BUT attacking wise, I have belief.

Also, a win at the arse. BOOM!
You gonna be posting regularly from now Gaylord?

I get Ryan's point about the defensive frailties still being evident but IMO there are signs that we might be tightening up. Klavan looks like an excellent signing and hopefully he and Lovren can build a good partnership. It was a weak Arseanl team but they still had Ramsey, Walcott, Carzola, Sanchez and Iwobi on the pitch at varios times and we looked relatively untroubled in the last 15 minutes protecting a slender 1 goal lead.

The defending for the 1st was awful but a decent LB will solve that and the defending for the 2nd was poor but the third was just down to the magnificent ball from Carzola, most teams would struggle to defend that. The fact that we regained our composure after their 3rd suggests we might have a better defensive record this season. I'm predicting a clean sheet at Burnley.

Great opening game. Started a bit slow, adjusted perfectly and should have run Riot at 4-1. Too bad we wll a little asleep and invited them in for a result straight away. Otherwise it could have been real nasty for Wenger.

Clynes got off lightly here.

He gave away the free kick for their goal and allowed Chamberlain to cut inside. That's two opposition goals he was directly involved in.

Lucky for him that Moreno had a cluster fuck of a performance.

Some impressive debuts (bloody hell they display large - sorry about that !) :

If you stayed up late overnight watching the Olympics, among the highlights from Rio was a staggering run in the 400m by South African Wayde van Niekerk.
He clocked an incredible 43.04 seconds to break Michael Johnson's world record and prepared for his race by watching Liverpool beat the Gunners. A lifelong Reds fan, he said: "“I've got the world record now, and I've got Liverpool!

“I've got a lot to brag about! My brother is an Arsenal fan, too, so it was just a great night! “I watched the Liverpool match before, I was losing my mind because it was a tight match. We got the win.”

Yep, Clyne did have a few hairy moments but those moments rarely happen as he's usually very dependable. Moreno on the hand...

LFC had 8 shots on target from within Arsenal's 18 yard box on Sunday. The most any team has had in the last 10 years v Arsenal #KloppEffect
Source ? According to OPTA we only had 7 shots on target including Coutinho's goal from outside the box of course !

Sorry mate, didnt see the comment until now.
It was from one of the stats accounts on Twitter. I'll see if I can find it. Maybe they fucked up and counted a blocked shot inside the box?
