What a game.

I might cop some flack for this but I'd say it was encouraging as well as discouraging.

It was the Liverpool we all know and have to love - you never know if they're going to turn up, totally unplayable at times, all over the place at others.... and always, always capable of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. It'd be great to see some progression and consistency - otherwise we're looking at 6th again.

Now that that's out of the way, it goes without saying that it was a great result and that we showed "mentality" and "character" to come back and all that jazz.

Mane looks like the 30M signing we've been waiting for in the last couple years. I really really hope he can keep that up.

Klopp needs to be on the fucking phones at 7am Monday morning talking to agents about a LB.

Great game, I don't think we were that bad in the first half, it was quite open.

Moreno fucked up for the penalty but I feel he was unlucky with the first goal. He was breaking forward for the counter when Lallana had a well timed tackle made on him, losing the ball and leaving Moreno out of position. Had Lallana been able to keep the ball and get a pass away, I think we had a great chance for a counter attacking goal.

I said it in the match thread...what I love about Mane is he has great pace and skills but he does what he does with a purpose and that's something we haven't had since Suarez left. Terrific stuff from him today.

That said, our weaknesses were on show again today and Klopp has to address them. He's tried by signing the new goalkeeper...he has to do that with the LB now. Milner won't let anyone down at LB but we need a specialist there.

And a word about Clyne who I thought was superb today.

I've been overwhelmed by Mane. I thought he'd be a decent signing. But if he keeps up this absolute drive, he'll be one of the best players in the country by the end of the year.

Ming had 2 good punches but zero saves? He also fucked around with his feet. There were a couple of times he could have came out for the ball but didn't.

Nothing's changed with him, even with the competition.

Maybe it's because I'm really ultra-tired at the mo, but the first half left me in a state of acute distress. I thought we were horrible. Flat from training, it looked like, but who knows. It was so, so, flat. But the moments after that, well, boom! Fingers crossed.

Great offensively today, but some shockers at the back. Moreno is now in Djimi Traore territory now.
Mane looks a great threat, pace, power, and likes to push people off and harass them.

The penalty save????

He may have fucked around with his feet but nothing resulted from them for Arsenal and those 3 goals weren't really his fault.

Don't get me wrong, he's our second choice but no need to pick on him in this game.

Mignolet isnt to blame for anything today. In fact I thought he was really good.
Moreno for the first
2nd maybe a bit Clyne
3rd no ones

Things that were reaffirmed :
We need a LB desperately
We still can't defend set pieces
Coutinho, Lallana, Firmino will amaze and frustrate in equal measures
Emre Can is a sexy beast

Pleasing New Things :
Actually looked like a team (at times) rather than a collection of individuals trying to acquaint themselves with each other
3 points away against a top team in a ground we have an abysmal record
Lovren continues to look like he might actually be a centre back after all
Coming from behind against the Arse.... so much cheap humour to be had
New signings look like they've been bought to fit "the system" rather than selected randomly from a pile of Panini stickers

Hold on tight folks.... we're off on another roller coaster ride.

Mane at 34m looks great business seeing all the prices bandied around for the likes of Bolasie now.

What I like was how early we got the deal done so he could enjoy a good pre-season with us.

I think he'll be great in games against the big sides where there's space in behind to exploit. What I'd be interested in is seeing his link up and combination play against teams who sit deep. If he can produce something special in those tight games then he'll be close to player of the season.

Can't believe nobody mentioned Coutinho's performance yet. I've been critical of him before, particularly of his leadership qualities and consistency - well, he played like a proper star tonight. Not just in terms of skill but his desire was second to none - even when the rest of the team played shit.

I know Moreno is [rightly] getting pelters for the first goal but Lallana must share the blame for it as well; he and Clyne also bollixed for the second, too. But what a goal for the second-- how many touches were there?

It's not easy being a Liverpool fan, is it? At 4-1 I thought that was it and in fact had Clyne and Lalllana not simply waved Oxlade-Chamberlain through, I feel we'd have massacred Arsenal. Instead the bad habits cropped up once again and we gave Arsenal a lifeline!. Phew! And this is called early season 😱

That's because the desire was only there after his first goal. But yes glad he scored, and what a free kick !!! - probably the best you will see all season.

I tell you what though - even though the first half was a little average - I felt confident because the majority of our players looked like supreme athletes and have good build. Mane - Oh yes every bit the 30M+ player, fights for the ball and is damn strong with pace. So happy he scored.

Missed the first half because two different pubs fucked up and couldn't get the game on but the second half..... WOW! We don't do boring. Often we do shit, sometimes brilliant and frequently both in quick succession and this was one of those days.

Really looked like a proper team going forward and great performances from Clyne, Mané, Lallana, Coutinho. Still shaky at the back but managed to keep them just enough at bay.

Terrific result and great way to start the season.

Quick question, if we had bought Kante and a competent left back...would people fancy us for a Title challenge?

Coutinho was fantastic today after 45 minutes ... He wasn't there but I'd take 45 minutes of great play for every 45 minutes of 'Where are you Phil?' play.

I thought Lovren and KLavan were good together, Clyne too ... Just one of those games where you have a shite LB who screws up on one goal, and magic & luck on a second goal and one of the hardest chances to defend on the 3rd.

Mane ... wow.

Firmino is one of those players who gives 100% (good!), very good on the ball (good!), finds himself in great positions all the time (good!) but sometimes, I wonder if he realizes he's on a pitch where the other team is trying to stop him ... So so slow at times.

Props to Lallana on that goal - if he can add goals to his game, Gini will struggle to keep him out of the first 11 ...

We needed Lucas for that game.

Moreno should be a sub only.
