Post game thoughts - Everton

Coleman was good for them. He did well down the right all game, cleared one off the line from Frimino too. I wonder if he'll move on.

He was a mouthy git all game though. Wanted to get involved in each and every fracas - him, McCarthy and Barkley. What a trio of cunts.

I'm surprised the Bitters werent more on Lukakus back in the 2nd half. Didnt run much and seemed to lose interest in after Lovren and Klavan dealt with him superbly. Thought he'd be dominating them in all honesty.

Yep. He found it hard to isolate our centre backs. The one time he did Lovren took a booking to nullify the situation.

Everton took off Valencia who was doing alright and brought on a full back. I was happy to see them retreat a little as they knew the game was slipping a bit.

We haven't mentioned how nice it was the see Ashley Williams' face swell with anger when we scored. Ha. I don't like him at all.

I read in the text commentry on BBC site that their was Box Office celebrations at the end with Klopp plus thanking the supporters with the players - if anyone gets a vid of that please post. I love Klops celebrations !!!

I couldn't watch the game live but did follow the match thread. Very very surprised when I did get to watch the whole game afterwards.

Our "totally shite" defence was fantastic, they barely gave away a chance the whole game including the first 20 minutes when Everton were on top. Lukaku was contained well by both Lovren and Klaven and their long ball shite totally was nullified throughout.

Ming came out of his area twice - once to make an important interception, something he would never had done previously, it's taken three years but better late than never.

In the second half they hardly had a kick, we should have comfortably won that, we had enough good chances.

In the first half Origi was a little isolated and didn't hold the ball up very well at all. Mane and Firmino didn't get close enough to him.

I see Wijnaldum getting lots of love but that was Hendo's best game of the season for me. He was not bad in the first half, three great outlet balls which Origi wasted come to mind, but he was great in the second, just what you want from your defensive midfielder.

Firmino wasn't at his best but he wasn't shite either. Very industrious and unlucky not to score twice, the first shot was a brilliant bit of skill.

Terrible tackle from Barkley but stupid from Lovren who was extremely fortunate not to get sent off.

All in all this was a big step up the way we dug out the result and showed a great deal of grit in doing so. Klopp 1 - SCM match forum 0

Louvren doing what he did was exactly what was required. Very canny. Gini is a huge part of this team.

Lippy - thanks so much for this. Really good stuff - what was Klopp having a go at Emre for ? that was funny; plus the cuddle for Mane - it was like 'come here my little African cutey ".

Great stuff.

I think it was the misplaced pass to Clyne which ended up going out for a throw

Have to give some credit to Ming as well. He seems to have used the time out of the first team well.
Was calm and confident last nigh, commanded his area and looks to have, strangely enough, improved his kicking.

More of the same please. Very positive return to the team so far.

It's nice to reflect on a pre-Xmas derby victory. Everton were very up for it, with a continuation of the high-energy aggression that so unsettled Arsenal. James McCarthy was central to this, and he did bully us in the first half, in which Everton were on top - just - without really creating too much. Luckily, he went off injured at halftime.

At this point I did think that, while we were staying calm in the teeth of some "provocative" challenges and a noisy crowd of angry gypsy orcs, we were a little too passive, and I was missing the aggression and physicality of a player like Can. It seemed that Lovren (and arguably Milner) was the only one who wanted to get stuck in.

After halftime, the tempo dropped a bit, and we started to dominate the game, keeping possession and starting to make their defence work a bit harder. There still wasn't a huge amount of chances generated, but they were all Liverpool. It needed a change though, as we were starting to drift towards a draw, and Klopp - rather belatedly - eventually did so, with the change everyone wanted - Sturridge.

And it paid off, with Sturridge scuffing a shot onto a post for the incoming steam train Mane to smash in the winner in the 94th minute. Not a derby classic in any way, but so, so very satisfying.

Mignolet (7) Hard to score when he didn't really have much to do, but he claimed a few high balls, and his distribution was (mostly) accurate and also a bit quicker than usual.

Clyne (7) Always involved and willing to join in with the attack, but he can't be expected to do everything himself; quite often when he was in an advanced position, he didn't have anyone in the box to even aim at

Lovren (8) Some of his long passing was, er, "optimistic" but his chest-out aggression was most welcome, and he also pole-axed Lukaku. Drove forward well and while his defending was characteristically ragged at times, he was impressive.

Klavan (8) I thought he had an uncertain start, and he seemed to be watching where Lukaku was rather than the actual ball at times, but after the 30 minute mark, he was generally imperious, making several big tackles and keeping the dangerous Belgian very quiet in the second half.

Milner (7) Tough, single-minded reliable and creative. He can be weirdly sloppy with his short passing at times, but perhaps it's because he is naturally trying to create something, rather than always playing a safe ball. So important to this team and a very fine footballer.

Wijnaldum (7) I was tempted to give a 6, but he was much improved in the second half and so gets bumped to 7. He's perhaps not quite my cup of tea, given he's one of those "tidy" players, but sometimes he does seem afraid to take a chance or have a shot, His goal return is appalling. But he saw lots of the ball, and generally used it well, and he covered plenty of ground.

Henderson (7) Lucky to still have an ankle after that awful Barkley challenge, he never got riled or lost control. Another typical decent 7/10 Hendo performance, but I'm sure he would like a bit more help in midfield sometimes. The way we set up occasionally means he seems a bit outnumbered when people switch positions and move wide. In fairness, Wijnaldum did spot this happening and started shuttling back more often.

Mane (7) I was delighted when we signed him, and get more delighted every day. This was one of his more wayward games, when he resembles a fly that's been stunned, and starts flying sideways. Some of his passing and movement was quite erratic. But despite a constant buffeting by the Uruk-Hai in blue, he never gave up. And when he directs that frightening pace forwards, he causes more panic than a Muslim bus driver in a European town centre.

Lallana (6) Simply could not get going in the first half, and so his contribution was more about the team effort, rather than any moments of match-winning brilliance

Origi (5) Couldn't keep up his proud Liverpool career record of scoring a goal in every game he plays, missing one chance with a wild shot. Seemed to be unsure about where he was playing, dropping deep and going wide to accommodate - or whatever - the movement of Firmino. Mediocre.

Firmino (6). I think I've come to a happy acceptance with Firmino. My issues with him were largely based on what I thought he could be, rather than what he is. With his skill on the ball, hard work and fluidity across the front lines, perhaps I wanted another Suarez. But he isn't that. When I started the brilliant thread about him back in October, I identified him correctly as what he is; a technically skilled, hard running - but slow - attacking player, who isn't a very good finisher, and therefore shouldn't be judged as a proper striker, because he won't ever score enough goals. Naturally, this caused the usual fucking cabbages to have a collective head wobble, and start mewling and spitting their outrage, because he was deffo going to score loads of goals, and as they "rained in" (he scored in two games in succession!) they slapped eachother's humps in happiness. Sadly, the "rain" stopped at a grand total of 5 goals, six games ago, so he's on course to match last season's total of 10. Which is actually about right for the sort of player I described him as. We should not expect more, it is unfair on the player, and anything more is a bonus for the type of player he is. Missed several good chances and had one excellent effort saved. But he only fits into the side on one place, because he's not very good playing wide and only contributes when more central.

Overall I'm very disappointed we didn't win six nil as that would have paid for Christmas, but the very Gary Mac method of winning, with the added bonus of being able to sing Lippy's song to bluenoses in the pub from now into the new year made it probably the best result of the season so far.

Did you actually bet on 6-0? Or is that some kind of goal accumulator thing I don't understand?

Only a couple of quid but it was 200/1, and I also had twenty quid on six or more goals in the match at 11s. So the reds let me down big time.

I was one fucking number from winning 1,4 million £ in the lottery over here this weekend. Got 6 out of 7 right. 1 number....
For that I got 400 £ instead.
This will haunt me for a while I reckon.

Mane I'm finding a bit underwhelming at the mo.

Despite the fact that he is popping up with crucial contributions - goals, assists etc - he seems to be underdelivering on the enormous potential he has. I'll be quite honest, having been away for the previous year, I knew fuck all about him when we signed him, and inwardly groaned when I saw we'd spanked another massive sum on a Southampton player. That changed in the first preseason game I saw him, where he was electric and by far and away the best player on the pitch. That vein of form continued into the first few games in the league, where he absolutely tore shit up.

Lately he seems to have gone off the boil a bit, with sloppy play, running into trouble or being hesitant to take people on. It feels kind of churlish criticising him when he's still managing to contribute the vital things, but he could (and possibly should, given his natural talents) be doing even more.

Wijnaldum I'm the opposite. At first I couldn't figure out why the fuck we'd signed him (having forgotten that we sold Joe Allen), and didn't really see why he was worth £25M, as he didn't seem to offer much. He certainly doesn't do much in the way of spectacular, but he's solid and consistent and keeps us ticking over nicely. The more I see of him, the more he makes sense

Apart from the predictably pompous self aggrandisement in the last bit agree with most of the above but would give Hendo one more point.

Special mention for Studge. Firmino and Origi were toss, we gave Studge five minutes of normal time to win the match and no messing, he came on and did just that, walked off with a big smile on his grid and a cuddle from Klopp.

Do not sell.

Yep, Do Not Sell is right. We'd be mad too.

I think we're possibly missing that selfish element when Coutinho or Studge aren't on the pitch.

Eg the Origi chance, when Wijnaldum plays in Clyne, who puts it slightly behind Origi who's coming in under pressure - I was surprised that Clyne didn't try and take that on himself. He had acres of space, and if he lashed it in, even if he didn't score himself the keeper may well have spilled it into the path of one of our players following up.

Sometimes a bit of selfishness can be a good thing. I wonder if it's something we're lacking?

Probably that pass which he managed to boot out of the stadium.

Maybe, but Clyne's a right-back. It's not that weird he might be more inclined to pass to an actual attacker, rather than try to lash one in himself.
