We wouldn't have beaten Chelsea to his signature anyways so what's the point of wondering.
The teams who win things, buy the best players and pay the most money tend to get first dibs.
Are you disputing that Lucas topped that table for years?
GREAT ODIN'S RAVEN!!We were offered Kante but decided not to bid, so the story goes.
Dantes. Serious question. How many semi-cannibalized corpses do you store in your basement?I trust that you are now going to find him, behead him, and then use this post to support your innocence.
I seem to remember it as Leicester trying to drum up competition to Chelsea for his signature to increase the transfer fee.
I don't know if we ever were really interested in signing him but we seemed uninterested in becoming involved in that particular game
IndeedYeah, it was in Leicester's interest to get a bidding war going but I suppose his agent might also have been encouraging this. We should have been making overtures for a player of his quality.
That scout who spends all his time in Southampton has done OK though. We could have bought him from Caen. Which is easier said than done obviously but some of our scouts are doing a pretty terrible job.
Spain, France, Portugal etc. Moreno, Alberto, Sakho and Markovic. Thats 60 odd million £ that.
I was sat 50 ft away and I could see it was never a foul and I am virtual geriatric by all accounts- he got plenty wrong last night.
I'm pretty objective as a rule when it comes to refs but....
It was a pen - no argument, but so was the foul on Milner when Moses shoved him in the box. Why did he play on the foul on Origi when some bastard went straight through him and should have been booked?
Other issues might be red tinted but he was certainly no homer- he seemed to favour Chelsea with a lot of minor stuff
"virtual" 😉
When will The Moderators address the constant ageist jokes and insidious comments about geriatrics on this Forum?
Vlad is a superb contributor and his wise head and vast footballing knowledge from 7 decades of Liverpool support should be treasured and not mocked.

And he can type all that great stuff whilst having your head lodged up his arse, which is even more impressive.
It could of course be you Ryan - but I fear your voluminous cranium would struggle with even my ample sphincter

I am somewhat baffled by "Liverpool supporters" that Credit Chelsea for the game while they more or less slam our players. Reading here it looks like the supreme Costa gave our Central Defenders a horrid time while Chelsea managed two shots on torget the whole night (4 in total or so). They had 6 crosses to our 30. We had 66% possesion or so.... How good can they be? The supreme Costa did exact the same as the useless Firmino. So how poor was our defence that allowed Chelsea 2 shots at target? It is Chelsea after all.... I have read time and time again how we have the bar far worst defence in top half of PL and still the magnificent Costa makes 1 chance from a poor dive the whole night?

If we'd bought him from Caen I'm pretty sure he would still be at Chelsea now.
I think you're "somewhat baffled" because you're talking bollocks.
Costa totally bullied our defence. He won a penalty. How was he the same as Firmino? Who was abysmal, missed two chances and gave the ball away more than any other player? But because Costa didn't score he was "the exact same"?
Well, not really. He's scored twice as many goals as Firmino so far this season, so in the larger context, it's obvious who is the better striker. Firmino has one of the worst shots/goals ratios in the entire league.
As for our defence, again, what's your fucking point? Because Chelsea only scored once that somehow means our defence is OK? I don't recall you crashing into the Forum after we conceded three goals at home to Swansea claiming everything was just fucking fine and dandy.
Of the Top 8, only West Brom have conceded more goals. Well, actually just one more. The much-maligned Man City, with the widely mocked Bravo and useless Stones, have conceded exactly the same number of goals as Liverpool.
So yeah, we do have one of the worst defences in the Top part of the Premiership, and Costa is a miles better player than Firmino.
I hope that has made you less baffled.
Another baffling bit is despite having a striker with one of the worst shots/goals ratios in the entire league, we've still managed to outscore EVERY TEAM in the League,
That includes the much-vaunted strike forces of Man City, Spurs & Chelsea with their widely praised Aguero, Kane and Costa.
Its easy, to say, we've outscored everyone, therefore a goalscorer like Kane or Aguero isn't an issue but it evidently is an issue.
We have no one who can be relied upon to deliver more than 5 times out of 10, sure the goals are spread about but we haven't got that killers instinct or a even arguably a match winner which costa, ibra and kane certainly have been at times this season.
Klopps system requires multiple components to turn up and turn it on to deliver the results and at times ( when it works, its a thing of beauty, we've played fantastic football with more consistency than any other side In the league, albeit not so recently) however, when one of those of cogs doesn't turn or whatever it clearly shows in how poorly we actually play or approach a game.
Having that one forward who is a bona fide threat instantly mitigates those variables and risks. I.E Chelsea play like turd against hull few weeks ago, Costa busts them out, ditto umpteen occasions where Ibra has gifted united 3 points.
