I'd pick this team:

Mignolet
Gomez
Klavan
Matip
Moreno
Lallana
Milner
Wijnaldum
Woodburn
Ings
Solanke

Klopp won't. He'll pick as good a team as he can find, and Salah and Firmino will get injured and miss the trip to Old Trafford or something.

We're through, Porto are junk, and we're at home. Play the magoo's Jurgen.

I'd go with a similar team for what it's worth.

Moreno and Solanke are hopeless. I really don't see any positives in playing them, other than it gives someone else a rest. But I don't know who else I'd play.

Is Kent still here? Play him instead of Solanke, with Ings and Woodburn.

Play a training cone instead of Moreno.

I'd be happy with mostly the same side as we've been playing, but just giving a few players a run out to up match fitness

Start Gomez, lallana and ings for Trent, ox and firmino

If we're sailing comfortably, bring on solanke and woodburn.

Try and keep shit as settled as possible

I'd go pretty much the same solid defensive side, but rest the front 3.

Karius
Gomez Matip Van Dijk Robertson
Gini Can Ox
Lallana Ings Woodburn

Should be enough for a draw or a late 1-0 win.

Yeah, that would do me.

After what happened to Arsenal against the minnows, I'd not be so quick to spit at Porto.

Keep Bobby and Salah on the bench, Mane is freshest of the 3 ... Go with Ings and Lallana.

The back should be Karius - Gomez - Matip - VvD - Moreno

Yep as long as the front 3 aren't playiing then i'm cool with whatever team he picks. It would be stupid by klopp to even risk any of them against Porto.

Im thinking you might see Clyne for 60 mins in this one.

If Woodburn, Solanke and Ings dont play, you'd think their number is up. I dont think he'll tinker too much at the back. I expect Karius to play along with VvD.

I think he may play Salah.

He's commented how good he is at recovering repeatedly now & if he starts his pace means that our forward line is still pacey & threatening.

We go ahead early & he can take him off at half time or even earlier & let the rest play it out.

There's also the psychological impact for both sides. Play a completely reserve forward line & we risk telling our players & theirs that we're not taking it seriously, & ruin our momentum.

Perhaps a change in formation is a good idea, go for the 442 diamond & use our many midfielders to supplement the forward line.

If we win it makes it easier v united. We're always shit when we rest players. We might only lose 2-0 but I'd rather not risk it

Similar for me - although i'd keep Lovren in for him and Virgil to keep their partnership growing. I'd expect Gomez to start at Old Trafford.

Might also prefer to see Solanke over Woodburn.

Keep the back 5 and build consistency and confidence

Play Ings, Milner and Lallana

Unless the medics deem it risky, I'd play a strong team, maybe bring some of Moreno, Klavan, Lallana, Ings and Gomez in, but not the kids, they can play from the bench. Momentum is the most important thing right now, if we go into the game against United with a 8-0 aggregate lead, it's only going to help.

-----------------Karius-----------------
Gomez--Matip--Lovren--Moreno
-----------------Can--------------------
----------Milner----Wijnaldum------
-Mane-------Solanke------Lallana

How much is momentum going to help if one or two of our top players carry injuries into the United game and can't play ?

This tie is done. We could put our youth team out and not lose by 5 goals. Play a steady backline (no VvD or Robertson though) and midfield and rest the front three. We likely won't lose but even if we do it won't be by much (odd goal).

And momentum means SFA to any of these players, they will know it's a reserve/rested lineup and know that the only game in town this week is at Old Trafford at the weekend. That is where we need our strongest team, not risking our stars on a freezing cold midweek night at Anfield which is just perfect for tweaking thigh muscles.

I actually think it will build a momentum by resting players. Mourinho will moan and moan about how we are capable of resting players for 7 Whole days while they had to travel to Palace on monday, and hence he was forced by FA to play a deep defencive line against us to save some precious legs for the mighty Sevilla just days later.

I'd go with this but start Gomez at LB and Clyne RB. Anything to keep Moreno off the pitch.

Gomez, Klavan, Moreno, Lallana, Gini should start just to get some game time.

Karius should start to keep his momentum going.

One of Ings/Solanke, whoever is the backup to Bobby, should start so we can see where they are and whether we should be worried.

Clyne and Woodburn should come in off the bench just to encourage them.

The rest I'm not fussed.

And then if one of our front three gets injured?

I get your logic, but it's fucking cold at the moment, which is when most muscle injuries tend to happen, & the next match is HUGE. Yes, the difference between second & third or fourth is minor in many ways, but in terms of sending a message, I think it's massive.

I want teams to view us next season like they view City now. Most teams have given up against them before the game has kicked off. That's a massive advantage.

I am in the camp of resting players for this game – we need to use any possible advantage before the United game and having fresher key players could help us in that game and further down the road as well. Besides we have a few squad players who very much deserve a run out.

---Gomez-----Matip-----Klavan-----
Clyne---------------------------Moreno
------------Hendo------Gini-------------
-----Lallana------Ings------Solanke--

Agreed. It's not like Captain Hendo and Gini are going to be overrun at Anfield.

If we play any of the front three and they get injured I'll go nuts.
