This tweet caused a bit of a meltdown yesterday.. Personally I don't see much wrong with it..

Sexist its being called.. Argument for Stereotypical and maybe patronising.. but Sexist no...

Would a similar tweet saying;

'Our #Lions go back to being Fathers, Partners and Sons today, but they have taken another title - heroes'

be any different?

I'm the first to have a moan when people claim things are sexist when they clearly aren't, but that's pretty damn patronising. It was probably tweeted by Greg Dyke himself.

Patronising maybe.. but I don't think its sexist..

It doesn't matter if it's actually sexist or patronising, the big deal is that an organisation like the FA, who knows how closely everything it says and does will be scrutinised, didn't actually stop to consider that it might be seen as such... shows what massive fucking dickheads they are from top to bottom.

If motherhood was so fucking difficult the women wouldn't have time to complain about this.

The Three Lions crap is bad enough, now we've got all of this 'lionesses' nonsense. Childish PR rubbish that deserves to be mocked mercilessly.

It's both patronising and sexist. Patronising because it's suggesting that now the world cup is over these professional athletes are going back to being mothers and daughters etc. They're still footballers. They were daughters and mothers and partners during the world cup. There's no transformation that takes place. The women football team just finished 3rd in the World Cup, something the men's team probably won't get close to doing for another 50 years, and the FA have tweeted the equivalent of a pat on the head.

Sexist because there's no fucking way the FA would do something similar for the men.

Will they charge themselves for bringing the game into disrepute ?

Not sure where to put this so I will post it here.

[article=http://www.si.com/planet-futbol/2015/07/06/usa-japan-womens-world-cup-tv-ratings-record]The USA's 5-2 win over Japan in the Women’s World Cup final Sunday night on FOX averaged a stunning 25.4 million viewers, making it the most-viewed soccer game ever in the United States–men’s or women’s–by a giant margin. The previous most-viewed soccer game in the U.S. came last June 22 when 18.7 million watched ESPN’s World Cup telecast of the U.S.-Portugal men’s game (combined with Univision, it totaled 24.7 million viewers). The telecast peaked at 30.9 million viewers between 8:30-8:45 p.m. ET.

Telemundo averaged 1.27 million viewers for the Sunday's final, making it the most-watched Women’s World Cup match on U.S. Spanish-language TV.[/article]

I think it's sexist, but I'd be pretty confident saying that it's a product of PC rather than disregard for it. It'll just be some dolt in their social media team going out of his way to be inclusive and progressive and trying to curry PC favour, without really understanding the rules of the game he's blundered into.

A bit like when Hansen got pilloried for saying 'coloured' when he was obviously trying to be extra polite.

Give a fuck. Womens footy is shite anyway.

As Woland said, the girl who scored the Oggy. If that was Mens footy, the person would be vilified by the whole of England (just like Beckham was in 98)

Cos its a woman who scored the Oggy, its "Ahhhh, Poor girl"

Cant have it both ways bitchessss

I'm surprised they were allowed to use the term lionesses. I thought those terms were frowned upon these days, like the way they no longer use actress or stewardess.

I always find feminists getting angry quite funny.
The fat barber shop back and sides cunts.
I'd say Clare Balding is positively seething.
Can't wait for her reaction.

She's probably too busy panty sniffing in the Wimbledon dressing rooms first though.

I'll tell you all what's more entertaining than women's football. Hedgehog fighting. It's fantastic stuff. Two of them out in my back garden last night, making choo-choo noises whilst trying to push each other away from the peanut butter biccies I put out for them. Hilarious without any need for Jonathan Pearce.

Whatever "ism" that tweet is accused of displaying, the fuss being made about it is idiotic. The irony is that the FA itself has played a prominent role in helping to create the kind of holier-than-thou atmosphere in which this sort of nonsense can occur.

It's good fun trying to find the most ludicrous use of 'person' instead of 'man'.

For example, next time I get the chance I'll certainly be ordering a ploughperson's lunch.

That's true if you can make allowances for the yawning gulf in pace and power between men's and women's football. I'm afraid I just can't. The football on display even in their World Cup Final is not even in the same galaxy, never mind on the same planet, as that on display in men's football way down the pyramid.

Yes. The American women have been playing since they were infants, such was/is the female-orientation of the sport over there in terms of participation, so I don't know why their victory was hailed as if it was some kind of thrilling achievement. Most of the other teams were way behind them. And the English FA, ludicrously, is on this mad drive to boost the domestic game on the strength of the semi final 'success,' without the media pulling them up by pointing out that the club game in this country is ALREADY apeing the men's game in the recruitment of foreign talent (I think LFC currently have at least a third of the squad imported), so they can forget all about that brave new future for the 'lionesses'.

I especially don't get why the keepers are quite so crap. After all, female gymnasts are very impressive, so working on things like jumping and diving ought to be well within women footballers' abilities, but they remain flat-footed and stationary girly-girls who look terrified as the ball sails over their heads!
