PL Opposition Tidbits

If there's one thing we know. It's that "most of the time" lads who get injured a lot in their late 20s and 30s generally stay injured a lot.

It's going ahead

From the Liverpool Echo (Dave Powell)

Farhad Moshiri has agreed a deal to sell his 94.1% Everton shareholding to American group 777 Partners.
The organisation hopes to complete its takeover of the club before the end of this year. The move would see Everton added to a portfolio of teams 777 has already either invested in or acquired that includes Hertha Berlin, Sevilla and Standard Liege.

It would bring an end to Moshiri’s troubled reign at Everton, a tenure that has seen the club move backwards despite hundreds of millions of pounds being spent on transfers and the launch of the development of a new waterfront stadium.

Moshiri said that through this deal that “we have secured the complete financing for our new stadium”.
The takeover, which is subject to 777 passing regulatory tests including from the Premier League, comes after a deal that would have seen a different US group, MSP, build an influence in Everton collapsed at the end of last month. 777, which Moshiri had been in talks with earlier in the year, stepped into the void.

Moshiri said: “The nature of ownership and financing of top football clubs has changed immeasurably since I first invested in Everton over seven years ago. The days of an owner/benefactor are seemingly out of reach for most, and the biggest clubs are now typically owned by well-resourced PE firms, specialist sports investors or state backed companies and funds.

“I have been open about the need to bring in new investment and complete the financing for our iconic new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, on the banks of the Mersey, which I have predominantly financed to date. I have spoken to a number of parties and considered some strong potential opportunities. However, it is through my lengthy discussions with 777 that I believe they are the best partners to take our great club forward, with all the benefits of their multi-club investment model. As a result of this agreement, we have an experienced and well-connected investor in football clubs who will help maximise the commercial opportunities, and we have secured the complete financing for our new stadium, which will be the critical element in the future success of Everton. Today is an important next step in the successful development of Everton and I look forward to closely following as our club goes from strength to strength.

“Of course, none of this could have been achieved without the hard work of everyone at the club. From our team at the training ground, our commercial and support teams through to matchday employees, I extend my sincerest gratitude. And to our fans, the last few years have been challenging but you have supported the club through it all and consistently been our twelfth man. You are the best fans and deserve success.”

The arrival of 777 is not without concern. The group has been growing its football portfolio over the past two years after its first move, in 2018, saw it take a stake in Spanish side Sevilla. While 777 has only become involved in most of those clubs across recent years, several supporter groups have led protests against them over fears about the directions their clubs are heading in. Fans unfurled anti-777 banners at Belgian side Standard Liege during a game this season. The club currently sits in the relegation zone after a disappointing start to its season.

Josh Wander, founder and managing partner of 777 Partners, said: “We are truly humbled by the opportunity to become part of the Everton family as custodians of the club, and consider it a privilege to be able to build on its proud heritage and values. Our primary objective is to work with fans and stakeholders to develop the sporting and commercial infrastructure for the men’s and women’s teams that will deliver results for future generations of Everton supporters. As part of this, we are committed to partnering with the local community over the long-term, working on important projects such as the development of Bramley-Moore Dock as a world class stadium venue, allowing thousands more Evertonians to attend our home matches and contribute to the economic and cultural regeneration of Merseyside.”

Arent the Standard fans desperately trying to force them out of the club? Good move by Everton.

Bet they've got the option to walk away if the FFP hearing goes south - perhaps why they hope to complete "by the end of the year".

Utd are a shambles, personified by Casemiro who has been phoning it in for months while their fans salivate over his medal collection from another club. He's washed up, you watch him and he's only got about 30 mins in his legs then he starts waddling around the pitch at testimonial pace.

He takes an eternity to control the ball. After awhile the Brighton players realised they just have to stay tight and put their body in front of him before his aging legs could react and they will get the ball.

Not sure if he went off on his international matches but he looks finished.

Why buy a player with zero hunger left? He's won everything, so why would he care about Man U?
Also, why play someone who just came back from Brazil?
Their recruitment's these last few years have been disasters. It's borderline incompetence.
Ten Hag is out of his depth

I don’t know what you twats are talking about.

Utd have recruited perfectly and Ten Haag is just another in the line of amazing appointments since Ferguson left.

It’s better than I could have hoped for in my wildest dreams - if only their neighbours would take a lead out of their book!!!

I am extremely disappointed in the posters here. Back in the day there used to be an "Other forum meltdown" thread, which was a source of much joy when Utd fucked up, and was a boon to lazy fuckers like me who just don't have the patience to trawl through Red Cafe and other forums.

So sad

Personally, I don't really see Man U the same way I did 6-7 years ago. Sure, they're still a rival just like Everton but they're not a threat.
The only reason they finished ahead of us last season was because of our own ineptitude.
We beat them 7-0 even though we had shit season.

You can't forget about them and think they're finished forever like Everton. They'll be back at some point.

No definitely not, but I don't see it happening this season or the next. They're in need of a major revamp.

Having been around during their post-Matt Busby period, when they even got relegated to what's now the Championship for a season, I kept my fingers crossed during the Ferguson years for something similar when that old b@stard finally left. What we're seeing is getting towards what I hoped for, though I don't think they'll go all the way down this time, more's the pity.
