Rory says "I'd expect #Reina to leave #LFC in the summer if I'm completely honest"

Rory cont: "#Reina in poor form for last 3 years.#FSG want a younger, cheaper option. #Butland an option but #TerStegen far better signing"

Butland has promise but he makes a mistake a game. Buy him and loan him out. That Stegen chap would cost a ton of cash.

I'd be happy to let Pepe go if the money was right. If not, they can get to fuck.

Being 'premiership proven' is a bit of a cliche but when it comes to 'keepers I'd rather buy one who is just that. That's why my choice would be Begovic if Reina needs to be replaced.

If Pepe does leave (which I'm in no hurry to see happen BTW) I'd certainly rather he didn't go to another Premier League side. Hopefully his pal Torres' experience will have put him off that idea.

As for a replacement, I see Begovic's name being mentioned here and once or twice in the press. Count me out of that one. Begovic is a decent keeper but I'm not convinced he's good enough to be our no.1.

I want a keeper who can deal with high balls into the box convincingly. After so many seasons here, Reina still puts the fear in me when he comes out for corners or crosses - he improved over the years but has gone backwards again these few seasons (in addition to having jelly hands on occasion). I don't know if a replacement keeper will be able to come out as early and sweep as cleanly as Reina does though. Still, between the two, I think the aerial command is a better thing to have for us at this point, given that our centrebacks aren't that boss in dealing with crosses and corners.

In baseball the sabremetrically inclined always say its better to let trade a player a year too early than a year too late.

I think Pepe is a footballing example of why. We could have got 20m for him, and the reality is his form over the past year or more could have been matched by lots of keepers. Now we're potentially stuck with him on big money for another four years. If we do sell him it'll be for a lot closer to what we paid than what we could have gotten before.

What system do you need to understand to stand between two vertical posts and block footballs fired at you? None.

How much do you think they'll pay for him? I think they'll offer peanuts and get him but I reckon Liverpool fans will think he's worth 20M or something similar.

There was an article a couple if days ago saying he's the perfect tiki taka goalkeeper.

Proof if ever you needed it that football journos have lost the fucking plot

Most keepers don't distribute the ball as well as him ... so it fits into what they demand of Valdes most of the time.

We'll get 8-10 I think.

His distribution has been shite for yonks in addition to his shot-stopping. It's like Agger's bringing the ball out of defence Hansen-style. A 5 yr old myth that seem to perpetuate. Neither are that good anymore at what everyone maintains they are World Class for.

About 8M seems fair, hope we get 20 like. Certainly wouldn't pay anything like half that for him.

On the whole Reina has been very good indeed for us, but he is not perfect. Every year he goes through phases of being a bit dodgy. I am not saying that any keeper would be perfect of course but if we can still get some cash for Reina and bring in a younger keeper who is at least just as good then it would probably be worth doing.

Give it a few years and that option probably won't be there because Reina won't be worth as much

Moneyball baby !

Pepe will probably leave this summer, and its probably for the best.
High wages and an awful save percentage makes this an area where we can really improve.

Ter Stegen would be my first choice, but there are plenty of good goalkeepers that we can sign. I'd stay clear of players from the Premier League due to inflated fees.
But Begovic would have been a great signing.

I think the fact is we can get a keeper younger than Pepe and AS good already for probably the same money we can get for him.
However I understand he is a brilliant part of the squad and amazing with young players etc.
I dunno.
I think i'd keep Pepe unless we are after a real young worldy.
