Crouch and Scharner! My day just keeps getting better

Cheers Woy! Thanks Cecil! Ta very much Broughton

Fucking massive bunch of cunts

Since when have you believed links from the papers?
Crouch??? What have I missed?
A completely unsubstantiated paper rumour.

There are quite few links in different links to Crouch Mark, one person is predictably under-whelmed, whereas I would be quite happy.
The question that should be asked is....
Is he better than anything else we have had as a support striker since he left? The answer is yes.
With the arrival of Jovanavic, and if hopefully Torres stays it would give us one fantastic striker and two viable back ups, something we have not had for a season and a half, and our undoing last year.

We are also in a bit of a difficult position are we not? We are not going to get an answer out of Torres for some weeks yet apparently, so what do we do in the mean time? Sit on our hands waiting for him to speak and then find we have little or no time to seek a replacement of any sort, after a deal eventually goes through? or....Assume he is going, and splurge £25m on a striker, which makes us look like we thought he would go anyway, and perhaps force his hand, or to only to find he stays and we have spent £25m we don't have.

Crouch would be some sort of insurance in a situation like we have

regards

I've never liked him. Liverpool fans seem to have an obsession with bigging up former players, yet whilst he was here I thought he was shite.

Just my opinion of course 😉

Thing im not sure on Vlad is whether crouch having left for first team football in the first place would come back to be a back up striker again? Granted if Torres does want to leave and gets his wishes then he would get more games, but would he leave the prospect of CL football would he really return when even Hodgson cant guarantee if Torres will stay or go? He already has Liverpool on his cv so that surely cant be a factor in his joining, unless of course hodgson guarantees him that he will be playing two up top therefore making the Torres issue redundant.

In his first season when he played every game he was shite.

The season after that he was actually quite useful, yet perversely got far fewer opportunities.

Then we signed Fernando

It wasn't just his goal scoring ratio, but the way he would single handedly end any counter attack we were on by taking someone on (slowly) going towards his own goal, then passing it to a defender. It was worse than Yossi's obsession with having to take someone on every time he touches it.

I know I'm in a minority anyway, and I don't want to go off on a tangent as we should be discussing the mighty Paul Scharner!

Crouch only ever wanted a fair crack of the whip, which he did not really get under Benitez, well he did when he first arrived, but once he had established himself he constantly saw himself over-looked for Dirk and fucking Voronin.
He hardly played any games as a partner to Torres.
You also have to consider the Liverpool link with Abi Clancy, who , although has to be in London a lot for her career is very close to her family, besides that Crouch likes Liverpool as a place.
I think he would get games regardless and Hodgson would get the best out of him.

I'd welcome Crouch back if the price was right.

Scharner is very depressing, though, but like Oncy says, it depends on his squad status.

We've got a lot of holes to fill on a very limited budget, so signings like this are inevitable.

None of this is Hodgson's fault.

In fairness to him though SG, most of the time he had no option but to go towards his own goal, as there was nobody making a run in front of him.

What was he gonna do, skin their defence for pace?

Scharner would´ve been a decent signing for Fulham. Not so much for us.

Where would he play?

We´ve got CB covered and he´s not very good there anyways. As for midfield, we need far far better than him... even on the bench.

I am not sure if that is completely fair Single, he might not have been scoring goals, which I accept was his primary objective, but his worth to the team justified his place. The crowd were very patient with him and never was a goal more pleasing than when he got his first, had the crowd not seen that he was worth his place, the grumbles would have been deafening, but trust me , they weren't.

Is right. He was helping other players, particularly Gerrard and Garcia who both benefited from playing off the big man. And I don't buy this rubbish about him breaking down attacks and coming back with the ball, I think we saw throughout Rafa's reign that attacking in numbers was never his forte, so with no support I don't think he could do much else.

Regards his first season's goal return, who gives? His record since is very good for a centre forward.

Crouch is a superb player but he suffers from "heightism" in both managers and fans. They just don't think he looks right and makes the team look untidy.

Alonso is the only ex-player off the top of my head that I'd want back.

Bellamy & Hyypia I can understand, but no thanks.

Riise, Arbeloa, Murphy, Crouch, absolutely not.

TBH if the Paul Scharner rumour turns out to be true it doesn't bother me too much. We are going to have slots to fill in the squad and I think if a freebie can do that job so be it. I would expect no joining fee and low wages though.

Basically what it does it keep more funds available for good players to fill those slots where we need first team quality : LB, LW and Striker (either in a 4-4-2 or to replace Torres when injured / rested / in absentia). If a decent squad player is available on a free then you need to snap them up because they won't be around come the end of the transfer window.

If either Masher or Torres leave then I'd expect the funds from their sales to be used to find top quality replacements.

If Benitez was still in charge and we were linked with Paul Scharner this place would go in to meltdown.

Waste of time & effort this one.

He's on free generally means he'll be wanting a little bit more in wages, therefore he'll quickly go from "meh, freee utility man" to "pointless drain on wages"

Surely some of the yoiungsters in the reserves are a better bet?

Poor journalism if you ask me. All of Hodgsons transfer targets from his Fulham days have now been transfered to us..

I'm tempted to say our budget might be similar to Fulham's though.

Until any player actually signs for us, keep the drama to a minimum. Some of the lads comments are hysterical!

I'm sure the captain of the Titanic would have said "Until any ice-berg hits us.... let's keep the drama to a minimum"
