I can understand why everyone is so shocked, Roy is a highly regarded manager and he normally only signs world class players. It is completely out of character for him to sign a journeyman on a free transfer and the whole thing must be a mistake or smokescreen.

An experienced Premier League utility player who can cover central defence and midfield on a free transfer. What's the problem?

Some of the younger lads won't remember that the side that beat Everton to complete the Double in 1986 contained Kevin McDonald and Nigel Spackman played in the famous 5-0 demolition of Forest. A steady, non flashy experienced player is better to have as a squadie than a young, homesick kid from Spain or South America.

He's a free squaddie with solid premiership experience. Every side needs one.
Did we need one when we had

Gerrard-Mascherano-Alonso-Sissoko?

Of that grand midfield, we'll now have question marks and Scharner? Fuck.

Hooray! By the way, everyone who is attempting to justify this with risible talk of 'knows the premiership' and 'useful squad player' I have a message:

Wake. The. Fuck. Up.

If this is Mascheranos replacement I feel a bit sick.
If he's come to warm the bench and cover at cb then fine and dandy.

Let's see who we've signed once the transfer window has shut before getting all angwy and prophetic about the upcoming apocolypse shall we.

I'm pretty certain a transfer like this won't happen. We might buy someone from Wigan, but that will be Figueroa.

Scharner is a decent player, nothing more nothing less. Shouldn't be anywhere near Liverpool.

Remember Houllier unveiled Barmby, Hyppia, Henchoz, Diomede, Hamman and Westerveld. That wasn't very inspiring but it turned out alright.
I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous, but there's little point panicing just yet.

Yes, this is just like that
I didn't say it was. It might turn out that way was my point.

Sorry Oncy- I don't see how any of those signings are comparable with a 30 year-old Austrian journeyman with shit hair.

As a statement of intent Sheik, its an embarrassing sign that we shop at the bargain basement. Would any of the other members of the big 4 take Scharner. Is there a top 10 side clamouring for his signature? It is an utterly shit piece of business given we're attempting to convince our best players that we're preparing to return to Europe's top table.

Fernando Torres is refusing to discuss his Liverpool future until after the World Cup final. The Spain striker is desperate to play against Holland but insisted: "After Sunday I can think about meeting the new Liverpool manager. Then they can tell me their plans."

'We've signed Paul Scharner'

Yes, because he's the only player we intend buying isn't he.

Tottenham striker Peter Crouch is being linked with a return to Liverpool.

The Independent says there have been suggestions that new Reds boss Roy Hodgson could be interested in bringing Crouch back to Anfield.

Hodgson tried to sign the England international for Fulham last summer.

We're linked with players left right and centre now, new players in every newspaper. I guess the Scharner link is nothing more like that aswell.

Crouch and Scharner! My day just keeps getting better

Cheers Woy! Thanks Cecil! Ta very much Broughton

Fucking massive bunch of cunts

Sheik, Hodgson needs a good PR exercise to get the fans and the players on side RIGHT NOW. If you were Torres who has intimated that we need 4 top quality signings to compete would you believe that we were fulfilling that commitment when the manager's first signing is a journeyman pro you've never heard of?
