Pacheco - Leaving ?

John McMahon has revealed Roy Hodgson's first-team plan for starlet Dani Pacheco.

The Spanish ace is regarded as one of the most talented youngsters in Europe after rising to prominence in a withdrawn striking role.

However, this season he has been deployed more regularly on the right-side of midfield, a switch that McMahon feels can boost the No.12's claims for more first-team involvement.

"The boss (Roy Hodgson) is keen on him," he told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"He sees Dani filling those wide roles, so when he plays for the reserves he occupies those positions and learns to adapt and play in them.

"It's good for his development to learn several roles and it will only benefit him, especially if he's required to do a job for the first-team."

reading between the lines a little he's not using him at the mo while he learns more of his trade on the right!

bollox. we need him more on the left if anything.

We have got Kuyt, Maxi, Cole, Babel, and Glen Jo who could play there....

On the left we have no natural...

*Sigh*. Yet another skilful technical player whom a Premiership boss can't accommodate in his normal position and therefore sticks out wide, much like Vlad Smicer.

Reference the title of this thread, I wouldn't be surprised if this does ensure that Pacheco leaves sooner rather than later.

I highly doubt Roy would switch to 4-3-3 and play him as a forward. That could be the formation to get the best out of Torres, Kuyt, Babel, Cole, Pacheco, Jovanovic etc. Problem is, we don't have the midfield to execute that.

He played wide left for Spain in the U-19 tournament.

Apparently Roy's plan is to play Pacheco wide right. He's playing there for the Reserves to get some experience.

True, but that was a first for him with that team as I understand it and may have been a case of "needs must", though he did do well.

Well, I'm guessing a player like Patches would thrive more in a side that was set up to play more of a possession game in the oppositions half.

Bingo.

There is thriving and then there is learning.
Surely any exposure to the first team and better quality opponents is better than nothing?
Even if the team is not set up to help him thrive or produce his absolute best I'd still love to see him thrown into the team.

Take a look at his closest equivalent in the first 11 - Joe Cole - is thriving under Roy's tactics.

Dreadfully.

Over half his touches come in his own half, and result in him having to nearly always play the ball backwards. Not because he wants to, but because due to limited options ahead of him, a lack of pace to carry the ball into opposition territory, and because we play so so SOMOTHERFUCKINGDEEP.

Pacheco would fail miserably in that side. Pick up his Spanish arse and transport him to The Emirates and he'd thrive. Hardly a marvellous insight, but it's true. He would.
Yeah quite probably. Sure even Babel would do well there.
Doubt it mate.

Babel's just no good.

True. Him playing wide left for the Spain u-19 team would have a significant difference as that wide left role becomes more of a left forward role in a team that plays a high line with a design to maintain possession in the opposition half rather. He'd struggle playing out wide in a Hodgson team just the way Cole has, being forced to be a wide midfielder than a wide forward and getting most of his touches in his own half or on the touchline.

Babel does fairly well with the Dutch side so the talent is there.

He is a confidence players and won't find any here because he doesn't show enough and the managers don't have the patience to persist with him.

This is a results business and its hard enough giving players a confidence boosting run let alone blooding youngsters.

The dutch side plays different. A winger there has a main job by threathening the full back, and chase the room between a CD and a full back.

Babel doesn't really seem to play for the Dutch side these days. He didn't get a look in at the World Cup. Elia has taken his spot.

And the Dutch system quite suits Babel's limited abilities. He has lost his place to Elia simply because Elia is a better player.

babel is better served moving on to rescue his career. he is capable of doing this as he is still quite young.

Aren't we all really hoping for that? At least we'd recoup some of the transfer fee paid for him.

I think babel has started three games this season (it's now november) and scored in one of those games.
I can't even be bothered to attempt to defend babel, I will just say roy shouldn't have said he was going to give babel a good go. he's full of fucking shit.

yeah yeah much like babel, to save someone the trouble of saying it.
