Daniel Pacheco has taken to studying Yossi Benayoun in a bid to make the grade at Liverpool.

The 18-year-old Spaniard is one of the hottest prospects at Melwood but is still waiting for his competitive debut.

He believes watching Benayoun can help his progression.

"Yossi is an important player for Liverpool," Pacheco told LFC Weekly magazine.

"Both in games and on the training field I pay a lot of attention to what he does with the ball. It's great to watch him.

"I like the way he plays between the lines and is able to go past defenders."

You can see it's working. A year or so ago he'd tend to slip past two or three players, get into the area and then seem to get confused about what next to do and run into a defender. Some of that was no doubt due to other teammates not being on the same wavelength, but he also wasn't quite as aware as he needed to be. Now he's much more decisive - more so than Yossi at times! - and more direct. He's really champing at the bit for a run-out in the first team.

i was about to say when i was reading your comment that yossi doesn't seem to know what to do in the box 50% of the time. He tries to keep trying to go round players than unleash one. But the emboldened bit makes me relax over when dani eventually gets his debut

I would love to see Rafa give Pacheco a chance. Pacheco's skill and subtlety is wasted in the reserves. I get the feeling that with better players around him, he might be sensational.

As good as Yossi is in his own way, he may be better watching Messi.

Certainly a better person to learn off. I think torres could be useful too. To aide with his finishing and his directness. Hopefully he'll know when to beat a man and when to pass

I'd rather he learns from a player who plays with us, than from a TV screen. Unless of course this is an inside scoop to our BIG jan signing!

*points at tongue sticking firmly out of cheek*

I think Yossi's occasional errors, as noted above, highlight the need for our other attacking players to back him up more effectively. Beardo used to run into the same kind of trouble but Rush, Aldo, Digger or Houghton was there to snap up the loose ball. Now, when Torres isn't playing, we have a few distant spectators when he loses the ball. It'll be the same with Pacheco at the start so I hope, when he does get a chance, he isn't pounced upon like poor Spearing and dismissed more or less immediately as 'shite'.

There needn't be any excuse to show this glorious move again, but it shows how the team attacked so well. Yossi would shoot across like Beardo today, but Yossi (in the absence of Torres) is also the player most likely to slide in and get on the end of the rebound like Aldo! Anyway, enjoy again this absolute gem:

John Aldridge goal [Wonderful build up]

Do we get to revise the squad for the Uefa Cup or whatever its called so he can play? It would be the ideal place to throw him in the first team and see if he can swim.

Amazingly, I remember that goal!! 😱

I think it was stored away in my memory because of the moral that every ball is worth chasing after. Everybody thought the ball was going out of play, but Steve McMahon managed to keep it in which led to the goal.

Let's give him a game against Fiorentina, or half an hour at least

He's not in the CL squad!!

I clearly remember that goal too. What a brilliant goal.
gkmacca, Beardo scored the 2nd goal in that game, and wah ta gem it was - he walked through the gooners defence!
Oh the glory days *sighs* - seems like we switched roles with them - they are the ones with the beautiful football. Oh wait - we used to win trophies in those days, while Arse...

Yeah Yossi's had similar problems for us in the past, hopefully it's Benitez or the coaching staff who've brought him on in that respect, so it can only be encouraging for Pacheco and his future.

McMahon is a fucking legend.
McMahon was a great player, a better player than perhaps I gave him credit for at the time, but in an era when we oozed great players and indeed great midfield players.
If he played for us now, everyone would have him up there with the best

Ok so if you were to make a Uefa cup skwad now to play a minnow who would you pick?

im Using Pacheco as my creative influence
Reina
GJ Kelly Agger Mavinga (or insua but i think Mavinga can swim faster in the deep end)

Masch Gerrard (yep Gerrard in midfield, Aqua the creative force further forwar

Amoo Aqua Pacheco

N'gog

I'm not using Torres in Uefa cup unless its a great team. Too injury prone unfortunately.

I also want to keep an experienced strong midfield

Sounds fair. It's decided then. 🙂

Steve McMahon...Lucas

Spot the difference
Macca was great wasn't he? I think comparisons have hampered a few of our ex players, especially when they've had so much to live up to. Just shows the great quality we've had over the years.

Pacheco should watch Gerrard, not squad players

Unless a squad player is what he aspires to become
yeah, but watching yossi with give him indepth knowledge of holding onto the ball too long and taking on one player too many.
