Ozil....

I know. It's frightening. I really rated him and would have been chuffed to monkeys if we'd gazumped the Arse to sign him. You can definitely see why Mourinho was underwhelmed by the guy at Real.

Hes been taken off, Mesut 'Heart of a pea' Ozil.

The wheels are really coming off for him, he doesn't look like he wants to be there.

He's shown he can play keepy-uppies with a bit of chewing gum. He obviously thinks his job is done. Hopefully this will really put Wenger off any more big name buys.

He's bollocks. He had about 3 or 4 good games at the very start of the season and that was it. Some on here were raving for him to be nailed on for player of the year at that point. He's done fuck all since.
He very rarely made a full 90mins in spain either, he was always getting subbed.
Panic buy from arsene when they already had cazorla who was better than him.
He's another one that just isn't suited to our game, we saw similar from Sahin. He might get shipped out to germany and be good again.

Yea he had a bit of a reputation as a 60-70min player that had as many anonymous games as outstanding ones. His fee was vastly inflated.

I don't think he was particularly over-priced in terms of the talent he has. When he left Madrid he, along with Messi, had the most assists in Europe over a three year period.

Obviously the signing isn't working out as well as Arsene hoped. It's one of many joys of this season.

That old cliche about talent being pretty much redundant if you are not mentally up for it applies to Ozil, hes a massive pussy, out of all the foreigners to have played over here he might well be the biggest shithouse of them all.

What Macca says about the keepy uppies reminds me of school days, there was always that kid at school that could do all the fancy dan show off tricks in the playground but when it came to playing an actual game he was no good, there was a kid exactly like that who never got into our school teams, funnily enough he was also a pussy.

Remember sticking up for Ozil on here somewhen around Xmas, thought he had done allright and wasn't as bad a shithouse as the poster said (can't remember who), hold my hands up on that one, he knew.

Can't believe he cost £40 million...

He couldn't be passed moving on the pitch.

I think the hamstring is a ploy.

He's a super footballer. I wouldn't be writing off someone with his talent just yet.

I think his reputation will diminish somewhat at Arsenal. They don't have anywhere near as many clinical finishers as Real or Bundesteam and Özil's game is really all about assisting - he will be under pressure to score more and that's not his best quality. I'm not saying he will struggle, but I think after a year in Arsenal he will look more like a 25-30M player, not a 45M one. I would be very very surprised if he could carry his team like Bale, Suarez or RVP do.

So far that's what seems to be happening – Ozil looked brilliant when Arsenal had 2 in-form finishers in the team at the start of the season (Giroud and Ramsey). But when one cooled off and another got injured, people started expecting Ozil to carry the team by himself, but he simply doesn't have that quality. And I think it's more of a character quality than a footballing one.

At this point he is a brilliant creative cog in the machine, but not a superstar.

He's much better with players like Walcott around him. But the lack of fight and effort has to be a concern for Arsene.
Brilliant footballer but doesnt look bothered.

World class player but lazy. Having said that i'd have him at Anfield if Arsenal decides to sell.

He'll be a star at the World Cup. For sure.

It reminds me of the Reyes situation a little bit so far.

I'd be wary of writing the transfer off as a failure just yet as Ozil is a very very good player but Wenger must be frustrated with the return on his 40M investment so far.

Rurik nails it for me though. Ozil is a luxury player who needs quality around him to properly shine. Arsenal's main problem is that Giroud is good but not great and the rest of the supporting cast are, well, the supporting cast. They need one or two leading men.

Wenger will surely be in the market for a striker again come the summer.

Heh, hard to see that one happening!

It'll be interesting to see what happens with strikers in the summer. We've potentially got a lot of the big names available: Torres, Cavani, Falcao, Benzema, Costa and (sadly) Suarez.

I could see Wenger going for (and getting) Benzema.

They really missed Ramsey, Walcott and Wiltshere.

As always, the media and Arsene coming out with excuse after excuse. It's pretty simple – if, after 15 straight years in the CL, you STILL haven't one it, you are a failure. As a club they're a pathetic whinging bunch of spineless clowns. And Ozil looks like the kind of man you wouldn't want to see by your side in a trench. Fuck them. Delighted.

Fortunately for us and everyone else who's still to play them they are ravaged by injury. With Ozil out they now have 9 players injured.
