Chelsea must be insane not to accept that bid. Terry has always been overrated and he certainly isn't getting any better.
Not that i disagree with you. But im guessing Abramovich sees it as more of a pissing contest regardless of the players worth.

Agree, and would add that - while I also agree about Terry and his current worth as a player - his leadership is very important to the Chavs. In fact I'll bet it's as much that as his playing ability that Hughes is after for Citeh.

Terry pledges future to Chelsea

Chelsea captain John Terry has finally ended his silence over speculation regarding a move to Manchester City and said he is staying at Stamford Bridge.

City have long been linked with the 28-year-old, amid reports that they were considering making a bid of up to £40m.

And while Chelsea always insisted they would not sell, the England skipper's silence only increased the speculation.

But Terry has now said: "I am totally committed to Chelsea, always have been. Me leaving was never a possibility."

The defender was wanted by City manager Mark Hughes as a key part of the Manchester club's recent revolution that has seen them spend £80m this summer on the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Carlos Tevez, Roque Santa Cruz and Gareth Barry.

And it was reported that Welshman Hughes, who was a team-mate of Terry's during his playing career at Stamford Bridge, was willing to pay the centre-half £200,000 a week to convince him to move to Eastlands.

What is clear to me following those discussions is that Chelsea's ambition remains as high as ever

But Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti said in his first media conference that he would not consider selling Terry, and the player himself has now moved to end the speculation "once and for all".

"When you are linked with any club, or with a manager who I have huge respect for, it will always make headlines," Terry added on the club website.

"But Chelsea have made it clear to me consistently that there was never any intention to accept any kind of offer.

"I know there has been comment that I should have made a statement earlier.

"However, throughout this period there have been numerous discussions between myself, the owner and the Chelsea board and we all agreed that the timing of any statement would suit everyone involved in those talks, not any outside influences or agendas."

Terry's announcement will come as a welcome relief to the Blues as they look to launch a renewed assault on domestic and European fronts in the new season.

Ancelotti is Chelsea's fifth manager in two years, a period that has seen them win just the FA Cup last season, and it was reported Terry wanted assurances from owner Roman Abramovich that the Londoners were still able to match his own ambitions.

It appears those assurances have been given, with Terry adding: "What is clear to me following those discussions is that Chelsea's ambition remains as high as ever. This has been further proved by the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti. I am certain he will take this club to the next level.

"Another important factor was knowing that Chelsea would be securing key current players for the long term. The strengthening of the squad around this core is crucial to pushing us on to greater success.

"I am as committed as ever to helping drive Chelsea forward and I will be proud to lead the team for as long as I can."

Terry has been with Chelsea since the age of 14 and has won two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups and a Uefa Cup in the last 11 years, leading to his nickname of "Mr Chelsea".

I thought he currently had a parity contract with Chelski Count?
Not sure why he would wanna ditch that if he has.
One bit of gossip from Marca isn't enough to make me worry.

Are we even in for Silva? I thought Rafa baulked at the price at the start of the window and had a pop at Valencia for leaking our approach?

I think he's after a cheapo striker and that will be it, unless Madrid pay our valuation for Xabi, which doesn't look likely, and we have to bring in a replacment.

Absolute tosh. If leaving was never a possibility there was no need to wait until now to end the saga. What an idiot he is. And he's also claiming this was the first transfer offer he'd had - but Thommo has said we sounded him out in Ged's day and he'd been keen on coming.

Kolo Toure to sign for Citeh this week for 14M.

He has one year left on his contract, and is shite. Great work Hughesy!

And with the 40 odd million Wenger could bring in, I fancy him to buy two good replacements for Adebayor and Toure.

Well he's already got that Vermaelen chap to cover at centre-back, and Toure wasn't even first-choice last year, so he's hardly a great loss. They could do with replacing Adebayor with a central midfielder to play alongside Fabregas though.

Bringing Flamini back reasonably cheap would be a good move for them.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has signed a five-year contract with Barcelona to end his three-year spell at Inter Milan.

Barca have paid £40m while Cameroon's Samuel Eto'o moves the other way to the Italian champions on a five-year deal and Aleksandr Hleb arrives on loan.

The 27-year-old Ibrahimovic will need treatment after fracturing a finger on his left hand in a friendly.

He said: "It feels like I'm living a dream now. It was not easy for me in the last weeks."

The deal he signed with Barcelona includes a buy-out clause of 250m euros (£216m) for the player.

"I'm not coming here to be Samuel Eto'o, I'm somebody else, somebody new, but I will try to achieve as much as Eto'o, or even more," said Ibrahimovic, who will wear the number nine shirt.

Barca president Joan Laporta hailed the Swede's arrival, adding: "He is not a conformist, he is ambitious, a winner, an authentic man with strong feelings and he wanted to come to Barcelona."

Forward Eto'o successfully concluded initial negotiations with Inter last Thursday and was followed by Ibrahimovic flying to the Catalan capital from the United States, where Inter are currently on tour.

Ibrahimovic, who has spent the last three seasons at Inter after moving from Juventus, picked up his injury in a pre-season friendly against Chelsea in Los Angeles last week.

Barcelona's club doctor said they would decide on Monday what treatment would be necessary for Ibrahimovic's broken finger on his left hand.

The doctor said: "It's a fracture we have to study how to fix so he plays as soon as possible."

Ibrahimovic was the top scorer in Serie A last season while Eto'o was equally prolific as Barca clinched an unprecedented treble after landing the La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League crowns.

But with Eto'o, 28, only having one year left on his current deal, Barca were willing to sell.

Reports suggest the Cameroon international will earn about £9.6m a season, having brought an end to his five-year stay at the Nou Camp.

"I made history at Barcelona, but that chapter is over," Eto'o said on the Inter Milan club website.

"At Inter I am starting a new chapter and starting from zero. I am happy with this new adventure and hope everything goes well. I won a lot at Barcelona and I hope to do so in these colours."

Belarus midfielder Hleb has joined Inter on loan for the season, after which Inter will have the chance to buy the player for 10m euros (£8.6m).

Tottenham have agreed a deal with Portsmouth to sign striker Peter Crouch for an undisclosed fee.

The 28-year-old England international has agreed personal terms and passed a medical at White Hart Lane.

A statement on the Portsmouth website has indicated that Crouch's sale was dictated by financial issues affecting the south coast side.

Crouch, who opted against joining Sunderland, returns to the club where he began his career as a trainee.

The fee for Crouch is believed to be in the region of £10m and the contract reported to be for five years and worth £70,000 a week.

Crouch scored 16 goals in all competitions for Portsmouth last season and, in a club statement, Pompey acknowledged the need to cash in on their star striker.

"His sale was necessitated by the club's commitment to repay scheduled debts while we are in a transitional period of completing the takeover," said a spokesman on the club's website.

Pompey announced on 21 July they have agreed in principle to a takeover by United Arab Emirates tycoon Sulaiman Al Fahim, after the 32-year-old passed the Premier League's fit and proper person test.

The statement also states that the club will now look to "add fresh faces to the first-team squad as soon as possible."

BBC Sport understands that Crouch's arrival is likely to clear the way for the departure from Spurs of striker Darren Bent, who was scheduled to join the rest of the squad on the plane for their pre-season tour to China but was a late withdrawal from the trip.

Bent has been a target of Sunderland, where Crouch rejected a £12m move last week after indicating a desire to remain in the south of England.

Tottenham will be the third club at which Crouch has played under manager Harry Redknapp, after spells with the 62-year-old at Southampton and Portsmouth in the past.

He will also link up with his former Pompey strike partner Jermain Defoe.

Crouch originally left Spurs in July 2000 to join Queens Park Rangers before moving to Portsmouth for his first spell at Fratton Park in 2001.

He has subsequently played for Aston Villa, Norwich (on loan), Southampton and Liverpool before re-joining Portsmouth in July 2008.

The 6ft 7in striker has played 34 times for England, scoring 16 goals.

That Ibra deal is one of the maddest in recent times. 40M and Eto'o... crazy shit. I hope Guardiola knows what he's doing.

I was passing the nou camp today whilst on holidays in Barcelona and noticed the commotion. I wandered freely into the stadium and took my seat to watch him being unveiled.

Fucking hate him though.

Considering he's not nearly the same 'poacher' as Eto'o can be, it's going to be interesting to see how they adapt their system to him (as I'm sure they'll continue the same formation).
I agree. Its insane. Its got absolutely no bearing in reality.

They'll never be able to justify that deal no matter what Ibra achieves at Barca.

It's absolutely ridiculous and Inter must be laughing all the way to the bank.

So what's going on with david villa then?
who did he want to go to again? was it barca? well that clearly isn't going to happen, and if it was real that isn't going to happen either.
Has to be the most crazy transfer ever, it just shows how much of a cunt Barca think Eto'o is.
or they want someone up top who has one of the best touches in the business and is able to hold up the ball, not that holding up the ball makes much difference to barca seeing as they play the majority of the game in the oppsition half.

we'll seen see if they life to regret this. I think the odds have swung towards real for la liga.

Well, they paid 30M Euros for Alves and nobody really cares any more.

Ibra is one of those players that divides opinion, but if he goes to Barca and shows the rest of Europe what has made him so valued in Serie A, no-one will care about how much they paid for him.
True. But its still a shite deal.
I love Ibra. I watch as much Serie A as i can, and he is a player i love to watch, but 40m plus a player easily worth 30m is fucking insanity.
