Fiorentina is gonna beat Lyon. Horrible substitution by Rafa. With Torres off their center back helps to keep that ball for in control for Lopez - like that 6 minutes of rest would really make the difference. Watching Voronin play that much of a role in our team actually hurt me. When he went off the commentator remarked about the Liverpool fans cheering the shift Voronin had put in (missed sitter of our season so far). I think we all were cheering a rare correct substitution by Rafa.
What a fucking moronic thing to say. Our defence were shocking for the goal. Having Torres on the field wouldn't have changed that.

Carra's post match interview did help to put things into perspective a bit.

Obviously it would be great to make it through to the final 16, but I think we might as well accept it's highly unlikely that we are. However, it's not the end of the world.

Our manager has an excellent record in Europe, it's important to remember that.
I must have missed the consolation bit. We're more or less out of the two main competitions we enter each season - in November. That's pretty close to the end of the world, especially for Carra, who is clearly on his last legs.

Or are you being sarcastic, Anita?
It was on ITV.

I'm being sincere, it feels bad right now. But we do need some perspective. Getting knocked out in the group stages is bad, but it's not the end of the world.

That will be at the end of the season if we fail to finish in the top four.
Fucking hell. It's the beginning of November and we're in damage-limitation mode already. The best thing we can win this season is the FA Cup: that's disastrous.
But we are building to win trophies Bunny.

Unlike you, Sheik, I don't particularly blame Benitez for our predicament. But to deny it's been a disastrous start to the season is just stupid.

Compared to last three seasons when we won...Oh.

I'm disappointed too B-Man, but the hysteria and panic amongst the fans is making the situation worse. Our players look a nervous wreck. I just want to look forward, I can't believe that things can get much worse. We have lots of injuries, the return of key players means we can put a run together in the league.

We're not gonna win the league or the CL. I accepted that before the season even started.

I'm disappointed that we're going to go out for a number of reasons. Firstly, I don't like any of our rivals being given the chance to goad. Damaged pride is not a nice thing to have to experience. Secondly, financially it could be crippling. However, it could be a good thing. It might either damage the Yanks financially to a level where they have to look for new investors or it mght persuade them to give Benitez further support. It's also happened soon enough to enable Rafa to concentrate fully on the league campaign and use the Europa Cup as a bit of a blooding ground for some of the fringe players.

Won't happen - we'll try to win it. But I wish you were right, it could be a silver lining ... More game time for the Kellys and Ecclestons of our club.

I know he won't. I just wish he'd write it off and go hell for leather in the league.

We fucking should try to win the Europa Cup - if that and the FA Cup are all we've got to aim for.

And Anita, why would you not believe at the beginning of the season that we could win the CL? We have a better record in the competition than any other club in Europe over the past five years.

Europa league is a disaster no matter how you look at it. A Thursday game with a squad of our size isn't manageable even if we use our 'second' string.

he will blood youngsters in the Europa. I suspect he'd rather like to be knocked out but the yanks will want the stadium revenue so I wonder if they will want him to go far in it

So if Lyon go to Italy and draw Lyon will probably top the group. If we win our two matches and beat Fiorentina by three goals we are through. Stranger things have happened.

Incidentally Whelan was saying that Rafa's cautious approach with Mascher and Lucus throughout the tournament showed his lack of ambition. Couple of days ago he felt that subbibf Torres showed that the CL was his priority. What a fucking prat

I'm probably being a bit OTT in saying I knew we wouldn't win the CL this season, I guess I must have seen it as possiblity. But I didn't *believe* we would.

It's hard to remember at this point.

At least we didn't lose. We've stopped the rot. We now need to draw a line, regroup, get some fire in the player's bellys and fucking twat Birmingham. We'll be laffin' then.

our first draw of the season
Yay!!! It was too many draws that cost us the league last season. At least, that's one thing sorted.
