I don't get it. I'm at such a loss.

What's gone wrong? The way we conceded the two late goals at Anfield against these guys and again today.

What the hell has happened to us?
I could answer this, but it would be in essay format and all about Rafa.

doesn't look good. flor are at home, are a very accomplised team, will be full of confidence put so many goals past the whipping boys and lyon have nothing to play for...
But they'll want 1st place ..

Full time 1-1

Can anyone tell me straight off what this means?

What's the equation?
Lyon are through.
If Fiorentia beat them in Italy there is nothing we can do to qualify.
Come on, though: Fiorentina are not a particularly good side. Lyon and us should beat them. So long as Lyon TRY, they should win. I don't see where the 'we need an upset' line is coming from.

Barring a miracle, we're fucked.
Nope, I'm sober and calm and I have other concerns, rather than in a mad rage. In a couple of days time some will agree. I don't much care tonight what others say. It's predictable and I don't blame anyone for saying anything else. And I just want a full strength side.

Lyon are far from being great, and we should have beaten them twice in "normal times". Unfortunately these are not "normal times", and we could also have done with some luck - conceding twice in the dying seconds is bad luck (in addition to bad defending).
There's no way Firoentina won't beat Lyon, unless somehow lady luck decides to smile to us for a change.

Maybe, but first place doesnt mean much now. it's all about getting through something we have not achieved

I am assuming Macca that Lyon will send a weakened team to Italy. We would do it in their position.
Fiorentina may not be particularly good but neither is Lyon.
I would not expect either team to progress to the quarter finals.

macca, fiorentina are good at home with their crowd and Lyon will play their squad players

by all rights fiorentina should put them to the sword knowing if they win they qualify.

I have my problems with Rafa too, but both games against Lyon are games that we done enough in and should have won. It's like our players have lost the believing mentality; we just crumble.

Fiorentina is gonna beat Lyon. Horrible substitution by Rafa. With Torres off their center back helps to keep that ball for in control for Lopez - like that 6 minutes of rest would really make the difference. Watching Voronin play that much of a role in our team actually hurt me. When he went off the commentator remarked about the Liverpool fans cheering the shift Voronin had put in (missed sitter of our season so far). I think we all were cheering a rare correct substitution by Rafa.

And then just beat flor by three goals!

We are out!

If anyone is looking for crumbs of comfort the last English team not to qualify from the group stages was Man U four seasons ago.
The season before they went on a run of winning the Premiership three years in a row.

How is reminding me that Man U have won the Premiership three years in a row comforting exactly?

I recall us getting knocked out of the group stages, only to not win the premiership, I think that might be a more valid comparison.

It's almost funny how people want to debate predictions. They're predictions. Have a stiff drink and go to bed. There's no point in any of this. Nighty night.
Given the deep affection French people have for England I expect them to go for it 100%.
They hate the Italians too. I don't think that'll make any difference though - Lyon have qualified, they've got lots of injuries, and they'll use the Fiorentina game as a chance to rotate and rest players. Our chances of qualifying have almost certainly gone.

Carra's post match interview did help to put things into perspective a bit.

Obviously it would be great to make it through to the final 16, but I think we might as well accept it's highly unlikely that we are. However, it's not the end of the world.

Our manager has an excellent record in Europe, it's important to remember that.

Whats your thoughts Ronnie Whealan?

His thoughts are: 'Why do those Liverpool fans keep spelling my name wrong?'

I must have missed the consolation bit. We're more or less out of the two main competitions we enter each season - in November. That's pretty close to the end of the world, especially for Carra, who is clearly on his last legs.

Or are you being sarcastic, Anita?

Gotta disagree on that part. Records mean nothing as of now since we NEED Lyon to beat Fiorentina.

Watching Voronin wearing the LFC shirt is painful. Nevermind playing for us. I'd give him to Hertha for free and play Pacheco/Ecclsetone/Nemmeth (when/if he's back from loan)/ahead of him. He's useless.

It was on ITV.

I'm being sincere, it feels bad right now. But we do need some perspective. Getting knocked out in the group stages is bad, but it's not the end of the world.

That will be at the end of the season if we fail to finish in the top four.

Fucking hell. It's the beginning of November and we're in damage-limitation mode already. The best thing we can win this season is the FA Cup: that's disastrous.
