SAM Allardyce is keen to meet Blackburn Rovers’ new owners and ask for funds to make an impact signing in January after Venky’s completed their takeover of the club yesterday.
Rovers have announced that the Walker Trust have sold their 99.9 per cent stake to Indian poultry giants Venky’s, marking the end of a three-year search for a buyer for the club.
Blackburn have struggled to compete financially with their Premier League rivals in recent seasons, with fees received for players outweighing money spent on signings during Allardyce’s two years in charge.
The Rovers boss has met the club’s new owners, Venkatesh and Balaji Rao, on two occasions – after recent matches against Chelsea and Tottenham.
Early indications have suggested Allardyce may have around £5m to spend during the January transfer window but, although he is encouraged by the possibility of new investment, he is yet to be told his budget.
And he has stressed the need for sufficient funds to bring in a player ready to hit the ground running at Ewood Park rather than merely buying potential – as he has had to do on several occasions in recent times.
A striker remains a priority, with Aston Villa’s John Carew and Liverpool’s David Ngog among those understood to be on the club’s wanted list.
