NFL Thread 2012

QBs have always been big guys but, whether through inclincation or instruction, a lot have been pussies. It's nice to see a guy carrying his weight. He is over 16 and a half stone for fucks sake.

If he did that now he may get flagged, it looked like helmet to helmet. Imagine that call, unnecessary roughness on the quarterback.

Aggies are bashing Alabama's brains out right now in the Bryant-Denny. Twenty zip in the first quarter. Johnny Manziel is like, "Can I haz Highzmanz?"

They started quickly against the Gators and LSU too before being pulled back, but they didn't start this quick. Alabama's pass rush has nothing to counter Manziel right now. They're 5/5 on third downs.

Great result for K-State and the Irish. One of them gets a shot at the title now. Although right about now is traditionally when Notre Dame stamps on their own dick.

Giants with a third straight poor game, and Eli continues to play like crap. Long may it last, amen.

Cowboys butchered the Eagles - really says how bad the Eagles are as the Cowboys are poor.

Apparently now he also has a fractured rib, that the doctor says could really screw him up, if he was to play with it.

Big loss. That number 2 they brought on the other night against the Chiefs looked like the shittest thing to ever park himself in two shoes.

Yeah, he was the starter for Jacksonville a few years back, and could not cut it, that is one of the worst feelings for a fan.

I remember a few years ago watching a Houston game, and Schabb was injured, and in to the game came Rex Grossman, turned the game off at that point because I knew what would happen, unfortunately I as right.

As bad as the bears are, this 49ers side are the meeting.

This Aldon Smith dude looks like he invented the word sack.

So I'm gonna be in NYC in Jan, and was wondering if one of you dudes could help me with figuring out the playoffs.

I'll be in town on Sunday 6th Jan, what are the chances of the Giants and/or Jets having a game at home that Sunday? I realise it's all TBD but gimme the lowdown folks...

I don't think the Jets will be troubling the playoff schedulers. The Giants however look very likely at this point to be in the wildcard round. Predicting if they'll be playing at home on the day you want would be a bit of a reach.

Hope it works out for you.

Ok cheers rico.

Rico! Fire Garrett, hire Payton?

Sure, why not.

I think he'd get them moving in the right direction again. At which point Jerry will start to interfere and it'll all end in a horrible mess.

Jerry has no respect for the position of head coach. If a bidding war breaks out for Payton's services I don't expect the Cowboys to be involved.

I would love if we hired Payton, that would make him by far the most hated main the league for a while.

Don't think h would be a solution though, the real problem is Jerry's meddling.

so are the 49ers right to go with kaepernick at this stage of the season ?

So, Wisconsin rolled over Nebraska to win the Big 10 and go to the Rose Bowl (640 yards total offence, over five hundred on the ground, with Monte Ball going to two bills and 3 touches). But the most memorable moment was Nebraska receiver Kenny Bell totally ruining Devin Smith with a gruesome block to let Jamal Turner run in the six. Have it.

The BCS bowl situation was all but locked up. Should look like this -

Rose: Wisconsin (Big Ten champ) vs Stanford (Pac-12 champ)
Orange: Florida State (ACC champ) vs Louisville (Big East champ)
Sugar: Florida (at-large) vs Oklahoma (BCS at-large)
Fiesta: Kansas State (Big 12 champ) vs Oregon (BCS at-large)
BCS championship: Notre Dame (#1) vs Alabama (#2)

The only change I could see happening, depending on the final rankings, is if Northern Illinois or Boise somehow get into the top 16. They'll be ranked above Louisville, so will earn an automatic at-large spot as as BCS buster because they both won at least a share of their own conferences. That would be at the expense of Oklahoma. But they're ranked #20 and #21 right now, and voters do funny things when shit becomes borderline. If Kent State had beaten NIU then they definitely would have got a place (as they were ranked #17 already), but as it is it's touch and go.

Obviously Kent State will fall, and UCLA too after Stanford beat them for the PAC-12. Kansas State torched Texas too, so the Longhorns will fall. But at best that would put either Boise or NIU (probably NIU as they beat Kent State) at #17, one place shy. At that point we have to see what happens with Nebraska. They'd have to fall the best part of ten places, but the fact that Wisconsin ran up 70 on them (the score was worse than the actual performance as Wisconsin got out ahead really quickly - but some voters might not have seen the actual game) could cost them big time. Michigan were inactive this week, so it's possible Boise and NIU could jump them too.

I can see a situation where Texas, Michigan, and Kent State fall out of the picture, but Nebraska and UCLA are kept just above the non-AQ teams, ranking NIU at #17 and Boise at #18, saving Oklahoma's bacon.

You'd have to say no, but if seasons were determined purely by what made sense then Notre Dame wouldn't be anywhere near the title game. They've Forest Gumped their way through so many games this season that there's a feeling anything can happen. Alabama are the better team, no doubt. And the weaknesses Alabama have (that secondary perhaps) match up pretty well with Notre Dame's weaknesses (no air threat). The ND defence is top notch, undeniably. It's perhaps not as quick as you'd like going against an SEC outfit, but they stop pretty much everything.

Basically, 'Bama are the handy favourites on paper, but sometimes Touchdown Jesus doesn't give a fuck about the odds.

Dez Bryant is slowly becoming an elite player. I was positive it would happen at season's start ... then I was like, "Maybe he'll always be a fucking kid who can't make the most of this talent," but now he's becoming a monster ...

Good on the voters, Northern Illinois got in at #15. They're going to the Orange bowl. Sooners got dropped from the BCS slate. So the line-up is

Rose: Wisconsin (Big Ten champ) vs Stanford (Pac-12 champ)
Orange: Florida State (ACC champ) vs Northern Illinois (MAC Champ, non-AQ at-large)
Sugar: Florida (at-large) vs Louisville (Big East champ)
Fiesta: Kansas State (Big 12 champ) vs Oregon (BCS at-large)
BCS championship: Notre Dame (#1) vs Alabama (#2)

Oklahoma drop back into an old Big 12 grudge match with the Aggies in the Cotton Bowl, which should be a game. Manziel vs Jones.

I don't get the College Football structure.

There are so many divisions, bowls etc.

Is there a definite champion in the end?
