NFL Thread 2012

Fair play. You called it.

Bears were awful, but you can never underestimate Carolina's determination to lose.

I just don't know what this game highlights more - how average the Giants are, or how much the Cowboys want to be like Carolina! 😉 The Giants will NOT win the Super Bowl if they win the division. They don't know how to play as favorites -

As for the Cowboys ... If I was Jerry, I'd do the following:

  1. I can't fire myself unfortunately, as I'm an idiot, so that's a problem. If I could do it though, I'd bring in Jimmy.
  2. Fire special teams coach (DeCamillis). He's not getting it down. Errors every game
  3. Relieve Jason Garrett of play calling duties next year (3 times out and a 2nd and 1 and you run three straight passing plays?). Give 'em to Norv Turner
  4. Entertain trade options for Dez. He isn't smart enough to take his game to the next level. Unfortunate as he has the physical attributes.
  5. Pay big bucks for the best O-Line available in FA - we should have got Nicks in the offseason, instead we signed Livings and Bernadeau and they're poor.

Yeah, Bryant is disappointing because he seemed to have a massive upside but isn't letting himself improve. Obviously there were always questions about him, but I didn't think he'd stunt himself so quickly.

We were so poor yesterday. Barely got two bills total offence. The two quick TDs saved hs and the last drive was about the best we put together. Had no business getting out with a win though.

Didn't the Bears do really well in the last 3 years (12+ win season) and blow it in the playoffs? Seems like that will happen for them this year too. I think the Falcons may actually get to the Super Bowl this year - complete team.

I'd give Bryant another year - he has improved this year, but he should be learning quicker. OR don't throw to him on timing routes, just say - get open here, I'll throw it high, and good luck.

Oh, God Yeah. Bears do a good impression of a proper team but nobody should be taking us seriously in terms of winning it all. Not as long as we have Cutler.

Cutler is an odd one - He's like ROmo I guess. The talent is there, the desire is there but he just can't be counted on all the time ...

I did feel bad for Romo yesterday - he clearly cares, and was let down on both first picks (Bryant didn't fight for the 1st one, and Austin just misread the second one). And I think Witten will end his career as the best TE of all time - he's just a phenomenal player.

Matty "Ice" doesn't have the greatest playoff record. It is mostly characterised by him never having one a single playoff game. and having thrown more interceptions than touchdowns.

Cutler can be counted on most of the time, just not when anything important is on the line. Then there will be a interception and fuck up fest of bed wetting proportions.

Ryan, your boy De'Anthony Thomas had a ridiculous punt return on Saturday. Just ridiculous. Brilliant bit of Houdini tackle escaping at the start, then some insane runaway speed. He's going to destroy Southern Cal this week.

Aye, I had it youtoobed to me within about 5 minutes of it happening MC.

Meant to post it on here yesterday but completely forgot. There's an Oregon radio station commentator who goes insane during one of the youtubes, it's really quite hilarious. I'll see if i can find it.

After the game at Wembley this weekend, I have heard quite a bit of talk about the NFL moving a team to London. I had no idea this was even being considered. I heard on Fox this weekend that "experts" expect the Jags to move there within the next ten years.

They've had preliminary talks about taking.over the Olympic Stadium apparently. Cost wise, it is a better option for the owners than the billion dollar debacle surrounding the Coliseum in LA.

Maryland have lost FOUR quarterbacks this season. They'll be having a linebacker calling the shots on Saturday. I'll watch that.

Yeah, but the logistics are a nightmare. It would be a great home field advantage, but terrible for when they went on the road. Would be very interesting, though.

Oh, it would be a terrible idea. Playing games over here anyway is a pretty terrible idea. None of the teams involved enjoy it, especially the west coasters and the designated home team (who have to be over here all week for media obligations). I'm not sure if the home team has ever won the game. Can't remember if the Saints were the home team or not.

But at least the series is only one game a year (for each team - there are two fixtures scheduled for next year). A team based in London, I don't even know how that would work. They'd have to fiddle the schedule so they had streaks of home and away games, otherwise the travel would be insane (even then the AFC South games - assuming they move the Jags - are spread out over almost 1000 miles).

Plus, I don;t know what kind of appetite there is to support a London team (especially as they'd be shite for years - the existing expansion teams are hardly drowning in success). The Wembley games now are a mosaic of various different team jerseys. Everyone already has a team.

I think other issues that people haven't thought about yet will probably scupper the idea. Like, where will the players pay income tax?

Who will score more points this year -
1) the Chicago bears via Rushing TDs & Passing Tds
2) the Chicago bears via defensive TDs
3) Robbie Gould (chicago K)

Who cares so long as they're all doing it? That first quarter was hi-larious. We were beating Tennessee like that shit was for slavery.

I hear you.

He also seems to be able to move too which is impressive for a guy his size.

Yah quite a lot of rushing TDs already - I never knew he had that part of his game ... Colts took a one year break from a franchise QB, and now they've replaced him ... Great job on their part.

Stanford used to let him run a little more a couple of years ago. Against Cal he had a sixty yard rush where he creamed Sean Cattouse (now with the Chargers) when he tried to tackle him. Just went through him like a freight train.

Dude is powerful. Google a hit he out in Shareece Wright in a Stanford-USC game. Luck handed off but the Stanford back was stuffed and fumbled. Wright recovered and took off, looking at nothing but empty turf in front of him. Then Luck knocks him out of his cleats. It was a proper hit.

He needs to learn to slide a bit earlier though. He keeps charging forward like that and eventually somebody's gonna carry his head off his shoulders.

Heh, just tubed that Wright hit. Wowsers.
