Newcastle 1 Liverpool 1 (Post match)

if we have Keita/Coutinho/Lallana, i think that could be ok ... 3 players who can play both sides of the ball.
That plus two DM's in the squad would be good enough for me.
Those three together would get overrun. The reason why Keita can make so many forward runs is because he has a DM covering for him. Starting Lallana, Coutinho and Keita would mean zero defensive cover and back to square one.
Also, Coutinho is so gone next season.

I doubt we will see Keita and Coutinho in the same team. Well not till Keita joins Barca in 3 years time.

Like I said in the match thread - we need a proper captain.
We need 2. Our best sides in recent years have always had 2 captain figures at least. Suarez and Gerrard, Suarez Gerrard and carra, carra Gerrard and hyypia

And that's before we include other beasts along the way like mascher, agger, Bellamy, etc etc

We had tons more when we were consistently good

Lessons Klopp I'm sure has learned ... I'm sure ...

1) Gini & Hendo don't work well together - little creativity, little ability to carry the ball forward and far too often take a safe pass.
2) Studge is finished. Most of us unfortunately understood this last year - I hope we get 15 mill for him.
3) Salah is going to score 15-20 goals but if he was more of a composed finisher, he'd have ~30. Can you teach that?
4) We need a DM

1) The return of Lallana should help with that as well as the arrival of Keita. In the meantime, it should be Can + another as he will at least try.

3) I think you either have it or you don't. This is why he was 35/40M player rather than 75M.

Can tries when it comes to going forward, but he has been wank defensively this season so far. Our midfield is shit, our defense is shit and our attack aren't clinical enough. What pisses me off is that the majority of problems with have this season are the same as the last so its not as if we didn't know to fix in the summer. But instead Klopp just focussed on attack and didn't fix the glaring weaknesses at the back. That's just retarded.

Top 4 is a pipe dream this season.

Geordies really are a rum cup of cocoa. Even the hacks there are pretty odd. The presser yesterday had Geordie hacks, who have a local audience who have no interest in Liverpool and Klopp, trying hard to wind him up. What the hell was the point? If Rafa thinks he'll always have them on his side he's got a rude awakening coming.

As for the game, it's like the old saying goes - it's not the despair that hurts, it's the hope. Playing badly and bleakly is very hard to watch but playing well in lots of ways but being this careless, clumsy and profligate is pretty much unbearable. In the past two games we've had fantastic counter-attacks with only the keeper to beat and we've fecked it up - that's unbearable. We've also had really good players demonstrate time and again that they can't hit even the simplest shot with their other leg. And we've had really intricate and elegant moves break down because of the most wretchedly stupid decisions. Never has an international break been so welcome - I don't even want to think about this team for a while.

I think there have been plenty of games where we've played well Macca and not got our rewards, through a lack of clinical finishing and/or our leaky defense. I didn't think we played well yesterday though, regardless of a couple of gilt edges chances (they had a couple too).

We seem to be in a slump and what's worrying is the divide between the attacking players and defensive ones. There seems to be some resentment there, which is hardly surprising when the likes of Mane, Coutinho and Salah produce consistent moments of magic, only to be undone at the other end by inevitable moments of schoolboy stupidity.

There was an incident yesterday where, for once, Coutinho's touch let him down and he was quickly closed down by two Newcastle players and dispossessed. He stood there bollocking Henderson for not helping him out. He might have had a point, had he continued to try to win the ball back and then pulled him about it afterwards, instead they both hesitated and Newcastle broke.

We didn't look like scoring 2nd half. Weak, defeatist mentality within this squad. It's been evident for ages.

Lets be honest ...our frontline is actually worse than our defence. We create a hatful of chances each game and they cant score. At least with our defense we are restricting chances created by our oponents. I think there is not enough good thinking up front.

That midfield is piss poor.

No combination of the players we have available is playing anywhere near the level required..Henderson , wijnaldum , can - all largely bollocks so far this season. Henderson seems to get a pass for some reason but im certain this side will achieve little whilst hes leading the midfield as it is and the system as it is.

Something has to change. Theres clearly no fear when wijnaldum can perform that ineptly, safe in the knowledge that he's back in the starting eleven after internationals.

I'm not sure Lallanas return remedies the issue necessarily but at the very least, he's an alterative to the current cloggers.

Vardy will cost £30m

He was talking about Lukaku, not Vardy. In response to post highlighting Jamie Carragher's comments about United recognising their need for guaranteed goals, and thus buying Lukaku.

I know Vardy wouldn't cost any more than £30m, but there's a reason for that and it's been discussed at length in the thread about Jamie Vardy. I'm not sure Vardy is quite the "guarantee" of goals that Lukaku is, regardless.

Welcome to the club

Well it can't be Wijnaldum. You have to actually have the ball first to take the easy option.

It can't be that shithouse Gini, because he barely touches the ball. And people have short memories about Henderson, he might be below par, but previously he's been pretty high in the assists rankings for us. He played a great ball over the top last night to Mane which set him up one on one, which Mane proceeded to fuck up anyway. And he played some great passes in the previous game too. It's a bit rich going on about Henderson, especially when it's the same poster who previously lauded that mediocre, sideways passing Brazilian for years.

Can was diabolical in the previous game.

Sturridge was fantastic once but he's crap now. Lost that quick burst of pace he had which gave him an advantage against defenders.
Face it, Hendo is no longer what he used to be and to be fair he was never a top class midfielder.

He was never top quality, if we're talking about players like Gerrard, Alonso etc, we all knew that, but when he was coming through with us he was improving each season and was putting in assists, a few goals and he's cover acres for us, which was a big asset to have. It's not like he's shite now because he always was. It's a pointless argument that's been done to death though so I'll leave it where it is.

I don't think our starting three are cutting it and won't lose sleep over any of them being out the team, but I feel there are better combinations to be found with what we already have.
