NBA 2016/17

Presumably the Warriors will have Klay guard Kyrie rather than Curry ? .
But he will still be out to prove point.

I can see how the Cavs can win games but i can't see how they win 4 out of 7 against this Warriors team.

Klay isn't quick enough to guard Kyrie - he will kill him off the dribble. Curry has the better chance.
LeBron vs big mouth should be great.

Figured this would happen - which is why Game 2 was always the key for me.
If the Warriors win, it's over.
If the Cavs win as I think (or hope as I hate the warriors), then they'll take the series imo.

Not sure what to say about these Cavs. I don't like them so I'm happy they lost, but still, I like to watch a proper basketball game, and that's not what we got today.

The number of uncontested, unmolested dunks the Cavs allowed the Warriors was insane. So instead of the death by a thousand threes that they feared, they got death by a thousand cuts in the first half. And when they finally tightened inside, they got deaded by Durant and Curry from the outside.

Warriors could even afford yet another flurry of duds by Klay on offence. Klay is practically zombie-walking his way through the postseason on offence, and it's not even because he's been guarded well. He's blowing so many open outside shots and easy layups in these playoffs, it's a good thing the Warriors have Durant instead of Barnes to pick up his slack.

Reading that Chris Paul is going to seriously consider signing with the Spurs. Would be a great signing.

He'd have to turn down the option of a 5 year max deal with the Clippers - and i think there was some aspect of that he negotiated whilst involved with the players union.

Another blow out win. Cavs held on for two quarters and collapsed in the third. Mainly because of JR Smith stupid fouls.
Still think the Cavs can get one in Cleveland.

One thing is clear, never give Golden State a 10 point lead. When you do, they start shooting...and a few mins later you're down by 22.

I think it depends on when that happens. If it's in the first half, the Cavs are still able to survive because James can still put them on his back, and Love is still fresh enough. And Irving is Irving. The Warriors had that 10-point gap in the first half in this game and then got really careless (as they're wont to do) and allowed the Cavs to close the gap. Curry had 6 turnovers at that time, which was about half of the team's turnovers by then. In the second half though, if you spot them that lead, they're just going to run away with it because the Cavs don't have the legs to keep running with them.

I think in the 3rd quarter, after the Warriors opened up the gap again, Lebron James went to the bench and he was obviously sucking air and looking despondent. For a fleeting moment - and probably the only time in my life - I actually felt a bit of sympathy for him. He'd played the first half attacking the basket a lot more aggressively and I remember saying (I think it was after his thunderous dunk over Iguodala) that this wouldn't last because he'd run out of steam in the second half. And of course, that's what happened as he settled for jumpers instead in the next two quarters.

The Cavs did make good adjustments to start this game though and at least they took away those easy dunks and layups that the Warriors were queuing to serve up in Game 1. They still make the mistake of trying to run with the Warriors though, instead of taking a leaf from Utah's playbook and slowing the game down. And Tristan Thompson and JR Smith have to start showing up if they want to win a game at home.

Great GSW team play on offence and ridiculous Cavs communications breakdown on defence (between Smith and Irving). Draymond's quick reading of the defence is impeccable - he switched from wanting to pass to Klay to Durant and finally to Curry in all of a second or two.

Finally, a proper game in the finals.

That was Cleveland's game to win and they blew it. Not sure I'd like their last two possessions if I were a Cavs fan. James kicked out to Korver (or was it Love) for a dagger three when he could've tried to go for a shot and draw a foul in the lane, and the Irving iso trey just seemed a bad decision - why settle for a contested three at that point when you'd been killing the Warriors the whole game driving to the basket?

Not sure if there was contact on James on Iguodala's swipe at the ball at the end; the lack of complaint probably suggests there wasn't. Regardless, Durant has to be the MVP for the Finals series if the Warriors close this series out - offence, defence, big plays - he's done them all this series. Single-handedly pulled them back (on offence) with a huge final quarter this game.

edit: Seen it again; looks like a clean strip by Iguodala. Big, big defensive play there.

Irving is just quite fucking awesome when he's having a game like that. If only he could add defence to his game. I was thinking his game reminded me of Rod Strickland. Then I learned today - and I'm probably slow to this - that Strickland is Irving's godfather.

3-1. Wow. The Cavs shot the lights out from downtown - that was a brilliant display of fireworks that should've been the talk of the game, together with their grit. Unfortunately, it has to share some of the limelight with a completely farcical performance by the officials. Seriously what the fuck was that with the Draymond Green / Steve Kerr, T no T, oops that's not on him but him shit, and the fucking endless play reviews. I thought that third quarter was never going to end.

Warriors take it 4-1.

Durant the difference.

JR Smith with a huge night, LBJ too. But you can't let GWS score 130-odd points and expect to win too many games.

Riley steals the show again.

The Cavaliers woke up too late. Should have been 2-2 going into game 5.
I agree though that Durant was the difference. Warriors without him would have been easily beaten by the Cavs.

By the way, I think it's stupid that the NBA decided to announce the regular season player awards in some ceremony after the playoffs are done. Who the fuck came up with that daft idea?

Silver presumably.

They wanted a televised award show and that is probably the only time to so it

Simmons on a couple of occasions now has cast doubt on Lonzo going to the Lakers.

He bases it solely on his knowledge of what Magic Johnson likes in a player - competitiveness. Fox dominating Ball says to him that Ball isn't competitive enough for Magic's liking.

I'd be surprised if they don't take him. But there is also this:

A report Monday byJohn Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 suggested that either the Celtics, Lakersor Sixers has promised to take Jackson if he’s still on the board when their pick comes up. Jackson canceled a workout this week with Boston and agreed to a second session in L.A.
