NBA 2016/17

LOL... what a weird ending. Celts steal one away. Smart unconscious and Jerebko gave them much needed energy to spur their comeback.

Have I mentioned before that Al Horford is soft as fuck? Couple of big baskets down the stretch but he has to bang harder against Love or Thompson and snag a few more rebounds. He's been totally useless this series around the rim. I get that Thompson is a good rebounder, but Horford seems totally allergic to any contact.

edit: Just seen the last play again. The ball spent 1.9 seconds from hitting the rim to finally dropping. If that had been a clean swish, Cavs would've had about 1 second left on the clock for a Hail Mary play. The crazy bounce basically ran the clock out for the Celts. Luckeeeeeee! 😀

Did I say game 2? I meant next to the next game, obviously.

You really think the Celts adjusted? Looks more like the Cavs took the foot of the gas, and thought it was over and teh Celts just got really really hot ... I'd be amazed if they win one more game ... the Cavs are embarrassed, and will go after them big time.

Ha..I was just trying to be funny..I wont be surprised if the Cavs destroyed Celtics in the next two..

Celtics are 9/1 to win tonight. I have them in a double with the Spurs (11/2).

Only a fiver

Fuck, these playoffs are rubbish. Have totally lost interest in them.

Isn't that the way normally with the NBA? How often do we see the 1-2 seed get to the finals? The last two years, we basically expected Cleveland vs Golden State. You rarely get upsets

The Conf Finals last year between the Warriors and Thunder went to 7.

Even the Raptors pushed the Cavs to 6 last year.

I have no issues with the top seeds winning, as long as the remaining teams are competitive and are pushing them. These Conf Finals have been one blowout win followed by another.

I want to see competitive basketball games at this level.

Yeah, I can understand the Spurs struggling without Kawhi. But at least they tried - they fought hard, and in Pop, they have a great coach who gave good minutes for rookies or sophs, who impressed (Dejounte Murray is going to be a good PG for them I think). About the only disappointing player on the Spurs for me, was Aldridge.

The Celtics, however, were totally fucking stupid and pointless most of the time in the EC finals. Yeah, they won a game. They had Cavs on the ropes in the first half in Game 4 - whoopsie doo - they played 4 good quarters in 5 games. Given the talent gap, it was always likely that the Celtics were going to lose, but the way they lost was fucking atrocious. I'd read that Brad Stevens was highly-rated and folks were touting him for coach of the year. I'd never really cared much about him but watching this series unfold - I'm stumped as to why he is. Some of the stuff out there that the Celtics were doing - or not doing - were incredible, and they were not just down to the players.

Oh well, on to the finals. This should be a good one hopefully.

If I were Danny Ainge, I think I'd trade the #1 for Porzingis. He's been making some noise about leaving NY, and he'd be a terrific long-term fit in Boston.

Also go after Gordon Hayward in free agency, and roll out with this:

Horford
Porzingis
Hayward
Bradley
IT

That would make things pretty interesting in the East.

Lol, you really don't like Horford. Guy used to be a really good player at Atlanta.

LOL, well, I never really bothered about him until this Cavs series when he showed me the worst side of him. To be fair, I thought on the occasions when he went into the low post against Love, he did very well. Alas, for some mysterious reasons, they decided not to do that after their 4 good quarters spanning Games 3 and 4. Anyway, I'd be wary about taking players from Atlanta to be honest and expecting them to shine - they seem to be a team with a knack for making individuals look better than they are (the whole being greater than the sum of its parts thing).

So, 24 hours out from Game 1... Who wins and by what margin?

I'm going for 4-1 Warriors.

Wait... you're confusing me. It's more than 24 hours out isn't it?

Game 1 is on Thursday, June 1, 9 p.m. ET. - that would be Friday late morning in Australia for you, wouldn't it?

Feels like an eternity... the delay between the conference finals and this has drained a fair bit of my enthusiasm and anticipation. I'm pretty sure that'll come back after tipoff in Game 1, but still, it feels like the gap is just way too big.

Yeah, I'll go 4-2 Warriors as well.

I'm looking forward to LeBron's performance. If he manages to win this series, then he's pretty close to knocking Jordan off of the GOAT discussion.

Yep you're right. For some reason I thought yesterday was Thursday all day.

I've been thinking about the Cavs - they'll dominate the boards. And presumably take advantage of Curry when attacking.

Maybe we're underrating them

Irving has a point to make this year ... if he can out duel Curry, he'll open up the discussion of who's the overall best player ... he's motivated, playing great ball and already has proven to himself he can do it when it counts ...
