NBA 2015/2016

OKC, as you predicted, are blowing us out of the series.

Pop just passed Phil jackson with most sweeps in a 7 game series ... Is he the greatest ever? Or still below Phil & Red?

Great question, I have always thought, and I'm a little biased I know, that Phil is grossly overrated as a coach. He certainly has the rings to back it up, but to me he is more a manager of personalities than an actual coach. Don't get me wrong, Phil has a niche and is very good at what he does, but at the end of the day the vaunted triangle offense was nothing more than get the ball to Michael or Kobe and get the hell out of the way. The triangle offense has no playbook, it is supposedly based on fluidity, motion and basketball IQ, what that really means is if you want the triangle and Phil Jackson to be successful, you need Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Shaq and Kobe. The only transcendent superstar Pop has ever had, in their prime, has been Duncan. Imagine if Duncan had been able to pair with someone like Kobe or Lebron.

Hypothetically, if you gave Phil and Pop the exact same team to play against each other with, Pop wins those games more often then not in my opinion. I'll admit, I am know nowhere near enough to judge Red, which is why I left him out. However, in addition to Pop, I think Pat Riley is also better than Phil as well.

I think Pop is better than Phil but that might just be my bias talking as I am a huge Spurs fan and never liked the Lakers.

Karl - Riley only ever won though with great teams. What did he do with only a tier 2 super star (Ewing, unlike say Jim Carrey)? Riley won when he had Magic, Jabbar & Worthy ... and then Shaq, Wade and the Refs (Sorry Sorry). Pop is great - love how he talks to reporters. I wonder if that's how he is with his wife and kids. "How do you want your coffee today dear?" "Hot"

DeAndre Jordan airballs a pair of free throws. 12/38 at the line in the Clippers - Blazers series so far. That's some incredible incompetence.

Oh, Hawks-Celts @ 2-2

Oh, and Karl - KD is a twat. Cuban says that he's a superstar, and Westbrook is an all-star. So Durant calls him an idiot. Don't see why he's an idiot - but KD knows all. Westbrook did take a nice elbow though from Anderson ... No complaints from me - you twat us, we twat you back and say goodbye to the playoffs again!

Well, Mark Cuban IS an idiot though.
"You look at Dirk [Nowitzki]," Cuban said, citing his franchise player as an example of a superstar. "I'm not going to talk about other teams' players, I guess other than what I just said, but Dirk for 15 years won 50 games no matter what. We put Moe, Larry and Curly next to him and we won 50 games. Russ is certainly an All-Star, but I consider Durant a superstar."

Classy way to try and win an argument.

He took Ewing to the finals and lost to Houston in 7, which if I remember correctly was an upset. The Knick team was tough as fuck too, if you ever get a chance watch the ESPN 30 for 30 about the rivalry between Reggie Miller and the Knicks during the 90's. Plus in '06 he had a past his prime Shaq and D Wade, whom I believe to be a tier 2 star.

And Durant is a phony ass cunt, I've been saying it for years. He is trying to portray himself as some sort of hard edged tough guy, hence the comments about Cuban and the silly flagrant 2 the other night, it all comes across as being pathetic and phony in my opinion.

Curry out for 2 weeks ...

How lucky is Golden St!?!? Curry out for 2 weeks and Chris Paul breaks his hand last night, giving Golden St a virtual free to the Western Conference Finals regardless of who they play in the next round.

I would imagine the Spurs will be smelling blood and will want to get the series with OKC over as soon as possible and rest up. The inconsistency OKC has shown, a 5 game series would not suprise me, but then again it would not surprise me if OKC plays up to the competition and takes it to 7.

I'll hedge and say Spurs in 6.

I lived in New York for that team ... Oak, Stars, Harper (ex-Mav), Ewing and Charles Smith ... Not to mention a young Anthony Mason!

That is a really good read. Couple his coaching ability with the fact that Boston has a shitload of high draft picks in their pocket and the Celtics' future looks very bright. They fleeced Brooklyn a few years ago, I think they have thier first round pick this year and the year after next, and next year Boston has the option to swap first round picks with Brooklyn if they want, and Brooklyn is looking like they will be one of the worst teams in the league for many years to come. They could potentially have a top 5 pick in the next 3 drafts!

Also a shout out to Dave Joeger in Memphis who I think is also a very fine young coach.

Wow.. Spurs totally destroyed OKC in the first quarter, and then added on more hurt in the second. Stopped watching after a while as it was a joke of a game with Spurs shooting like they could never miss and making Thunder look like a lottery team. Hopefully Game 2 will be a lot more entertaining than this!

Golden St are so fucking lucky is is ridiculous, if I were more of a conspiracy theorist I may believe that the NBA played a part in breaking Chris Paul's hand, which I know is not true, still I'm sure they were celebrating like crazy when it happened though.

Westbrook is balling. Chance for OKC to win this. I wonder how they'll match up with the Warriors.

Would actually love seeing a Curry v. Westbrook battle.

I'm already looking forward to next year.

Curry v Westbrook may be a good matchup, but Golden St. v OKC will not be, although neither would Golden St. v San Antonio, so its a wash I suppose.

I think its pretty clear that the NBA wants a Golden St v OKC Western Conf. finals though, the officials have been put on notice.

The Western Conferance Finals are going to be horrible for me, I can;t in good conscious pull for Golden St., but the alternative is Kevin Durant. Suffice to say I will be pulling for Lebron the rest of the way.

I have always been the opposite. I enjoyed watching Kobe/Shaq play so picked the Lakers as my team. Spurs were the rivals, so I always disliked them, found Duncan annoying and had no time for Popovic. It's not all changed - I wanted Oklahoma to win last night, but it was with a tinge of sadness for Pop - who I've come to admire as a coach. I'd agree that he is better than Jackson.

The NBA wants OKC in the final perhaps?

[article]The Thunder benefitted twice from incorrect no-calls in the final minute of their conference semifinals series win over the San Antonio Spurs. As was the case in Monday's victory, Oklahoma City was protecting a one-possession lead on both occasions in the conference semifinals.[/article]

Draft lottery tonight. Hoping Phoenix lucks out and lands a top 2 pick. This isn't a very deep draft - Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram are the only stand-out prospects.

That call is going to make this a competitive series now.

Here's hoping for OKC in the finals, Cleveland can beat them.
