I've always liked the look of him, in pre-season games, when I've seen him... Yes, he's no VVD, but nor is he a flippin' Djime Traore either!

I think he could deffo do a decent job for us, if he's satisfied being a 4th choice. Are there any behind-the-scenes issues that us peasants don't know about, that have seen his chances so limited..? Is he an arsehole, or something?

He's been very good for us in the games he's played for us, so far... Strong, brave, dependable. I'd love to see him get a decent run in the side now. He's earned it, IMHO.
4th game I have seen him in - yet to find any fault, again just don't get it.

He was excellent again yesterday. Maybe the only criticism is that he defers to Hendo too often but then who wouldn’t. No fault at all for the goal - he was just inches from blocking it.

In terms of age, it's

Davies 25
Nat Philips 23
Gomez 23
Kabak 20
Rhys 20

Reputation aside, there's no reason Philips and should considered solely as a "not bad" backup. He's in the competition to be first choice with VVD, and should be judged on that basis.

JoGo and Kabak shouldn't come in thinking they have a right to start. It's up to them to dislodge Nat P.

I don't feel it's now a case of championing an underdog, he's been very good. Technically good; his passing is quick and precise, he played some cracking early passes down the flanks last night, dominant, aggressive and his positioning is good. Whereas the likes of Gomez suffer from bouts of indecision and a lack of concentration, this lad is switched on to danger at all times.

He's been very good and as said earlier, it's up to others to dislodge him now. There's no way he should drop down the pecking order because we've signed players, it's up to them to work their way in. If anything, Fabinho should return and partner Phillips, with Henderson returning to midfield.

I would have had more faith in us scoring had we slapped him up front for the last 15. That's how good he's been for us.

Yes, Phillips really hasn't put many steps wrong when we've used him. MOTM performance on his debut in the PL and has looked solid since then. He didn't use the ball well against Newcastle(?) and he got benched because of it, but for me that was harsh and cost us when Williams was making worse mistakes.

If Kabac or Davies suddenly shine in training then fair enough. Judging from what I've of the signings, Phillips is competing with Kabac and Davies with Fabinho. That gives a nice mix of physical and aerial presence and ball playing ability.

Henderson should drop back into midfield sooner rather than later.

Nat has to continue at all the costs. And not playing Henderson in midfield would be the biggest mistake the season after this.
I am fine with Nat/Kabak and Davies/Kabak forming a partnership so that at least we can prepare them for this remaining season. Fabinho can play in defence only if required otherwise in midfield.

Deserves a contact extension, or let him leave on a free as a "reward"?

I'd let him walk as a 'thank you' for how much he's helped us - so he can have a career at a burnley etc ...
However, if he wants to stay, he should be our #4 CB ... he's good enough.

I wouldn't say he's good enough to be 4th choice, but he is going an ok job as 5th/6th choice. We should let him leave and invest properly into this position.

He should be allowed to continue his career elsewhere. Not good enough, but has been reliable when called upon.
At a point in his career were he needs to play, and he can probably make a decent career for himself at a decent Championship team with promotion ambitions. He's at a level between the Championship and Premier League. When he was ran past in the 2nd half last night you could see his shortcomings, but fair play to him. He gets stuck in and puts his body on the line.

A cut price move to Preston in the summer?

He's our best (available) centre back. Got done yesterday by some very fast, fresh legs which could've happened to anyone.

Granted he's not good enough for a team fighting for the title, but we aren't.
