Much has been made of our terrible set piece defending and rightly so...but

have you ever seen a team waste more set piece opportunities of their own? I know we have all debated ad nauseam whether or not Gerrard should be taking corners, but is there really no one on our squad capable of delivering a dangerous ball that we can attack and create a goal?

Honestly it seems we waste every set piece and we are not creating any chances from them.

Exactly, if we are aiming for the near post by design then I don't know what to say because it obviously isn't working.

Every other team in the league has some scrub that can deliver a good cross from a corner except us apparently.

There was one fixture a few games back, Gerrard kept taking the corners and it never produced anything productive, then Benny went over to take it, knocked it right at Gerrard's head, and we scored. But you're right, our set pieces are hopeless atm.

No one ever mentions Arbeloa but he was a good defender and maybe we miss him a bit too.

Insua might not be the player we hoped too. Arbeloa could of moved to LB this year if he had stayed.

Our defending at set pieces has been diabolical for a long time. Our defenders don't dominate in the air. We miss Hyppia for his aerial presence.

I've finally realised why Rafa must think we defend set pieces well in training... because the players taking the freekicks and corners are even shitter.

Out of 12. We didnt get it on target from a corner all game. Pathetic.

Have you noticed that the teams who score most from set pieces are generally much better at defending from them too? There's something seriously wrong with our approach.
