movement = Kenny

A thought from the game on Sunday was our movement in the final third - it was amazing as noted elsewhere and dare I say put aside any doubts in my mind about Kenny taking over. I must admit I was slightly concerned that with Kenny being so long out of the game and his stints at Newcastle and Celtic not being great - I feared that we would be too conservative and out of date. How wrong I was. I am definitely wanting King Kenny to take over.

We're playing much better as a team. We're still having off days but overall there's a vast improvement. Still a way to go though

In that respect I think Maxi deserves credit too.
Yes, his final ball is more often than not shit, and thus makes him a ery ordinary player that needs replacing but he makes great movements off the ball and creates another easy outlet for the player on the ball, wether it be to pass to Maxi or to another player that'll have more space because of him.

Pass and move is back, and just like it worked great in the 70s and 80s, it's working great 30 years later

Shanks was right all along. Football IS best kept simple, provided you do the simple stuff really well. Ferguson, who consciously modelled himself on the great man, has done this to great effect with his teams down through the years. It's time we made it our own again. 8)

Amen to that JJ. Fuck all the complex systems and negative stifling tactics. Pass and move is as valid today as ever as Barcelona proved tonight

I think Clarke has had a lot to do with how we play.

Hear hear.

The Scottish Passing Game has returned to Anfield.

I think Clarke has as much as Kenny to do with us winning games now.

We defend so much better.

Confidence is the biggest thing in football and that is what Kenny has brought back more than anything else.

Certainly things are looking fantastic at the moment.

Only word of caution is that you would expect any Liverpool side to put it up to the top teams at home.

Even Roy's Liverpool smashed Chelsea at home.

Utd had a very poor backline out that we exploited and a midfield that badly missed Fletcher.

Let's just hope we can bounce on from here and do it against the lesser teams.

so sammy takes care of the cones as junior suggested, and anyone can do it.

can i apply for the job?

Oi...fuck off away from my cones!!

The philosphy these days is that the team bring the ball forward through the midfield, and that the players need to move into the new open areas. Several times we opend up United, especially on the right side, were wes brown and Evra had a terrible game. We really moved well. I am happy to see that 🙂

I wanted Kenny back regardless of his record at Celtic or elsewhere. I was willing to gamble on it. I wanted a football playing manager that bled Red and understood the ethos of an institution that is Liverpool. Who better than King Kenny? A man who when he speaks, there is silence and gets listened to because of his standing in the game.

I've been hankering for a return to pass and move for years because it gave us success. That its Kenny that has brought it back makes it all the sweeter because nobody understands it like he does having been part of a remarkabke Liverpool team.

That we beat Utd so convincingly and with such style, was refreshing. Media silence resumes

I think this recent interview from Wilson says a lot about our movement. He allows the players to back themselves, and play with a bit of instinct:

Meanwhile, Wilson reflected on how the club has been lifted by Dalglish and why everyone is pulling in the right direction to try and get Liverpool back to the top.

He said: "Our supporters love King Kenny and he enjoys them as much as they enjoy him.

"I think it's great having him as manager of our club and everybody seems happier and we are all moving in the right direction.

"He went out of his way to speak with me when I came down to Liverpool from Glasgow and he's been great with me and he has given me an opportunity.

"The one thing about him is he just lets you play the game and he doesn't try and put too much on your head. He just lets you go out and do what you naturally do, and as a footballer that's what you want from your manager.

"We've got a lot of good attacking players and he has given them the freedom to just go and express themselves.

"I think you can see that from the results we have had and it's very positive."

I think clark is the one who provides the tactics but it's kenny that gives the team belief.

A lot of people say this, but it's clear that the basic style of play is related to the old Liverpool, so what with Dalglish being manager and all, I think he deserves some credit.

So no more 20-minute pep talks with clipboards, notepads and all for the new subs coming in. Great! I always felt the subs needed to be warmed up twice in the past. 😀

I agree. I thought the way we got so many players up in attack and into the box, the fluidity of some of the attacking moves, etc. were far more reminiscent of us in the 80s than of a Clarke-coached team.

I never understand why only one of them can be given credit. They work as a team.

I'm very reliably informed a major part of the training is now small teams playing games competitively, if you pass & don't move you concede a free kick.

Kenny's also been working one on one with the strikers & a few other players on movement & technique.

I fucking LOVE that man.

Thats completely awesome

Fabio: that makes all the difference. I remember Shearer saying something along the lines that Kenny will teach the strikers a few tricks or two that will improve them.

Only the King can!

This is direct from Shanks. That's how they used to do it.

for me it was not the fact that we won, it was how we won, i have not seen us play like this for a while if at all. Truth be told I didn't like how Ged played and Rafa didn't tickle mu fancy either. I can't recall any of them having a team which played with such fluidity, our final 5 players were often playing total football with movement all over the place. brilliant stuff.

Everybody in the team's at it. Have another look at the video of our first goal last Sunday. The player who passed the ball to Suarez and set off on a run along the line of the penalty area in case the ball came back to him was none other than Soto. 8)
