"There was still the very real business of obtaining approval of the shareholders, however. I was the 51% majority stakeholder, but I was obliged to -and I wanted to - obtain a mandate from Liverpool’s shareholders great and small. Gillett and Hicks produced a very substantial offer document containing all the key assurances re debt, the stadium, investment in the squad and respect for Liverpool F.C’s unique culture, traditions and legacy. It was impressive stuff - and it did the trick. For the motion to be carried we needed around 90% in favour. Over 1700 shareholders voted and the result was 100% in favour of accepting Gillett & Hicks’s offer."
I read this that Moores could not make the decision on his own, despiet being the major shareholder , and clearly it says that the decision was 100% unanimous . That being the case why is Steve Morgan today spouting on about Moores making the wrong decision , when he was one of the bigger shareholders and presumably voted in favour.
How many shares did Morgan have and/or control?
I think nearly everyone is acting with the benefit of hindsight on this one

Not altogether. Morgan has always considered Moores incompetent and reckoned he should have gone years ago. I suspect he thinks the letter glosses over some serious misjudgements by Moores throughout his tenure, not just at the end of it. I'm no fan of Morgan but IMO the sad fact is that he has a point in both respects. Even Moores admits in the letter to having made mistakes, but he avoids specifying what they were, and the idea that he has no need to apologise because those mistakes were well-intentioned is a load of hooey.

Morgan was on the radio today on the BBC news alluding to Moores error in allowing the sale to the Americans....
He has not denied this though
"Significant shareholders like Granada and Steve Morgan were insistent the board of LFC should accept the G&H offer,
and left me in no doubt about my legal duty to accept the offer."
As far as Morgan goes his opinion is zero as he hardly comes from a neutral position on this insofar as he had been trying to gain control for years, I was at the last few shareholders meetings and Morgan was cringeworthy in some of the stuff he spouted

I'm pretty sure I posted about this a few times in the past couple of years in some long boring posts that nobody read.
Minority shareholders have a nuclear option available to them if the board is acting in a manner that's not beneficial to their interests. The club can actually be wound up in certain circumstanced.
