Mo Salah

I watched the Roma-Lazio derby last weekend, and he was anonymous. The whole thing got a bit heated at times - being a derby n all - and our boy Salah looked like he wanted to jump the fence.

It's a no from me.

Calling the Rome-Lazio derby "a bit heated" is rather understated.

I've been to it and watching the orchestrated attacks on different sets of fans was almost as distracting as the football.

There's 3 debates here mods. One on Salah, the other on AFCON and the 3rd which is probably the most interesting is 'Who is the biggest Cunt?'

Oh hang on, is this the guy that failed at chelsea?

He didn't really fail, he wasn't given a chance. They did their usual, there was interest from other Premiership teams, so they bought him to take him off the market and then let him rot, cf Sturridge, Glen Johnson, etc. only he played even less than they did.

Yep him and Courdrado
It wasnt even about signing them just pissing off teams who wanted to sign them.

I guess you can afford to do that when your dodgy as fuck billionaire owner manages to pull continual sketchy as fuck MONSTER deals out of his arse Cf:Luiz, Oscar etc

Is the World Cup in Qatar still going to be held in the winter? That should be fun.

Anyways, what would Salah cost now?

£30M+. He's worth it and more. 32 goals in 80 games for Roma, playing as a winger. This season 13 league goals and 12 assists. Similar style to Mane: very fast, tricky, scores with both feet, can play anywhere across the front 3, loads of energy. I've been sold on him for several years now; like I said the only thing that gives me pause is the AFCON commitments, which would exacerbate the problem we already have with (or rather without) Mane.

From 2014:

IBTimes UK
can exclusively reveal that Mohamed Salah wanted to move to Liverpool in January, but chose Chelsea because he felt the Reds disrespected him.

Salah, 21, eventually signed for Chelsea after appearing certain to move to Anfield - and IBT has contacted sources close to the deal to find out why he switched destination at the eleventh hour.

Sources close to the negotiations told us that Salah, his represenatives and selling club Basel were unimpressed when Liverpool made a low-ball initial offer. They believe the Anfield delegation only began taking the negotiations seriously when Jose Mourinho showed interest.

The Reds had made their first approach for Salah in early December, and the player immediately intimated his desire to move to Anfield, while Basel were happy to negotiate.

However, everything changed when Liverpool's officials launched a first offer lower than £8m. Our sources claim both "the Egyptian and the Swiss side considered that a real lack of respect" as they knew that the actual value of the player was far superior.

"Salah was disappointed with Liverpool", the source told IBTimes UK.

Liverpool cooled off on the negotiations because they wanted to force Basel's hand with the timing of the deal. Then, in early January, they launched a new offer, "which exceeded the previous but still was not enough to consider acceptable".

The Egyptian and his entourage were worried that Liverpool were not taking the deal seriously, while Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid showed interest in the player.

Salah immediately ruled out a move to either of the German sides as he did not like the Bundesliga, and although he was very attracted to the idea of moving to La Liga, Atletico manager Diego Simeone did not want to do the deal until the summer, while Salah was keen to move immediately.

Fearful that offers from other teams could tempt Salah, the Reds approached the player again. Despite his initial disappointment, Salah was still dreaming about playing for Liverpool" IBT's source said.

However, the bid, around £11m, was once again too low for Basel.

Meanwhile, Chelsea decided to sell Juan Mata to Manchester United and Jose Mourinho asked his officials to sign Salah as a replacement for the Spaniard.

The Blues launched a bid to hijack Liverpool and "only then, knowing that they were set to suffer a huge setback, Liverpool made a serious offer" according to our source.

Yet, even after seeing so many low-ball offers knocked back, Liverpool came up with an offer far lower than that tendered by Chelsea (who bid more than £15m). Our source has confirmed that "Liverpool's last bid arrived to late and the Red's indecision collapsed the deal.

"Salah would be Liverpool player today if Liverpool had been serious and closed the deal in December. It would have been very easy then but after two month of unsuccessful negotiations Chelsea closed the signing in less than a week.

"The player preferred to play at Liverpool, as the competition for playing time would have been lower, but at the same time he is more than happy to be a Chelsea man."

From 2016:

“Liverpool had wanted me for a number of months. They had opened talks in October 2013,” Salah told MBC Masr.

“Negotiations took a long time, because Basel rejected more than one offer. They felt the transfer fee was not that high. I was waiting for Liverpool because I really like Liverpool. I was eager to join them.

“But then I received a phone call from Mourinho and that changed everything. He explained the situation to me and told me that he needed me at Chelsea. That was one of the main reasons why I joined Chelsea.

“Mourinho told me that he thought I was a good player and that he wanted me to pick Chelsea.”

Reading this makes me so angry. With Ayre at the helm we were really the worst-run "big" club in England in those years; we had Suarez, Gerrard, Coutinho, Sterling and an in-form Sturridge and adding just a bit of extra quality in January 2014 would have surely pushed this team over the line. Instead, all we had in reserve was the on-loan Moses, who clearly didn't want to be here, oh, and Aspas...

It really seemed like Mourinho came in at the final hour to sign him under our noses and them just discarded him until he got a loan move. He has looked great any time I've seen highlights of him. Lightning fast, can play on either wing, etc. Is he a kick and run merchant though?

How does the common style of play in Serie A translate to Premiership football?

Another attacking lightweight who can come in off the wing isn't what we need. We have that, in spades.

Plus, he chose Chelsea over us, failed and fucked off somewhere else. No thanks.
