No WAY is Salah better than Douglas Costa?!

I dont watch the Serie A these days so I really can't say, but no way..

Oh and @Hansern, to quote the lyrics of a famous song you have no doubt had to hear loads as a parent..

LET IT GOOOOO, LET IT GOOOOOO

We're thankfully over that phase now, but yeah I've heard that song maaaaaany times. 🙂
You're right though mate. Moving on.

Irrespective of who we get I love the fact that we're prioritizing pace and quality out wide.

If only we could've gotten one during Rafa's time here to round off *that* team... sigh.

Aat least then it felt like we only needed the "final piece of the jigsaw"
Now it feels like we are missing half the box

Erm helloooo!!!
Nunez and Mark Gonzales

Jeeesus, I'd forgotten about Nunez. Think I'll have to cry a bit while remembering the bushy eyebrowed lawyer who was a part time footballer.

Why not? He scores more and is generally more consistent, less one-footed, but equally fast. Douglas Costa is looking to leave because he lost his place in the Bayern team under Ancelotti.

Couldn't care less whether he turned us down or not. Plenty of players would get their heads turned by London, guaranteed success and a huge pay packet.
If Klopp assesses his motivation and thinks he's up for it, that's cool. If he's the right fit and the price is right, why not? His stats seems great, but that's another league, and he hardly set the world alight when he was in the prem.

Maybe he lost his place because he wants to leave?

Look I've only seen the Chelsea version of Salah but believe Douglas Costa is one of the best wingers out there hence my doubts.. we'll see.

He plays in Italy, where when players move to another league and they bomb or take a season or two to adjust.

And so it begins.

Target A too expensive, let's move onto target B. Target B, wages too high, let's move on to target C.

Hang on, target C isn't much better than what we have, & has a questionable injury record. Ah fuck it, they're new, we need new players, let's buy them anyway.

It'd be nice if once, just fucking once, we chose a player & signed them, without baulking over price, or salary, or refusing to pay more than our rivals to get a signature.

We're not a poor club. Far fucking from it, yet we seem to refuse to compete with our peers financially.

Yes, it is annoying.

But even I would have to concede that sometimes, as much as we might try and/or be willing to pay the money required, another club simply looks more attractive.

Of course, & in many ways we can't compete, but fuck me, it's like groundhog day.

If a target is actually our number one target it would be nice if we just said "fuck it, let's get him" & gave them a big enough offer of fee & salary to make it happen.

It feels like instead we just hear X club is interested & pull out of the race instead of trying to compete & risking getting beaten.

Actually, it feels like we just don't have enough ambition.

Perhaps we've moved on from Brandt for footballing reasons.

The absence of Mane has really highlighted how one paced our attack is without him.

Perhaps that has prompted a rethink from Klopp in terms of recruitment.

Brandt isn't Mane-quick, but he's certainly faster than any of our other lot

According to the article the reason we appear to be moving on from Brandt is because next season he wants to stay at Bayer, where he is guaranteed first-team football. Nothing to do with money or playing style.
Liverpool are looking into a number of wide options as Bayer Leverkusen’s Julian Brandt is unwilling to risk his appearances diminishing next season. The 21-year-old, who has been scouted by the club for years and was pursued in January as well as ahead of this summer, is targeting a place in Germany’s squad for the 2018 World Cup. He does not want to jeopardise his chances of making the cut by supplementing rather than assuming a starring role in Liverpool’s attack. With Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho proving how destructive they can be in tandem, Brandt knows regular run-outs from the off would not be guaranteed if he transferred to Anfield as he adapts to a new country and league.
"If you make the move, there is no guarantee that you'll play,” he told Focus on his future

He'd be pretty much guaranteed it here too

Not really, not with Coutinho and Mane as his direct competition on the flanks. He is a bit young to compete head-to-head with equally talented players in their prime. We might want him to give us quality in depth and for his potential, but the player might make the determination that guaranteed playing time is more important to him at this point – can't blame him.

.

Or the revised strategy:

Step 1: target the best player for a certain position.

Step 2: blanch at the price, so try and fail to buy cheaper alternatives.

Step 3: Ask Milner to play there instead.

Repeat ad nauseam or until Milner is worn out.

Aka MONEY BALL!

I think he coudln't cut the PL. Seems like he wanted to sign for us, but our Parry-esque approach to signing players was the problem

Is Simao still on the Tarmac in Lisbon?
